The Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight Dive Watch Now Comes in Bronze

Of all the bronze watches that have proliferated over the last decade, the Tudor Black Bay Bronze is one of the most memorable. Now, the downsized Black Bay Fifty-Eight offers all the same appeal but in the 39mm package that makes it our favorite dive watch for the money. The Black Bay Fifty-Eight Bronze, however, isn’t just a smaller version of an existing watch, but offers a chocolate-colored dial and bezel as well as a full-bronze bracelet.

Most bronze watches feature a steel (or other metal) case back to prevent the metal from turning your skin green (or other reactions for people with nickel allergies), and Tudor has here given its steel case back a bronze-colored PVD treatment. The metal’s properties are why more brands aren’t offering their bronze watches on matching bracelets, but Tudor has gone all the way, and the full-bronze look sure is striking. (While bronze watches are popular, to say the least, bronze bracelets are rare.)

The brown matte dial and aluminum bezel insert complete the monochromatic effect. This color looks good when the brushed case and bracelet are brand-new with a shiny gold-like hue, but it seems that Tudor has also considered how it’ll present when the metal has taken on its patina. It’l be interesting to see how the Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight Bronze’s bracelet — which includes a new quick adjustment system for its clasp — ages.

The Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight Bronze is otherwise very much what it sounds like: the now familiar 39mm dive watch but with a new case material. It features the same superb construction and finishing expected of Rolex’s sister brand as well as its own excellent in-house movement. As usual, it also offers a strong value, with the Bronze version bumping up the price by just a couple hundred dollars.

While the Black Bay line has been around a while and has expanded into numerous models, the Black Bay Fifty-Eight is still catching up. Many fans might hope to see the most compelling Black Bay models simply downsized to 39mm to fit in the Fifty-Eight family, but Tudor has clearly signaled that it won’t do exactly that: each Black Bay Fifty-Eight will do its own thing. A GMT sounds amazing, for instance, but you should expect it to have an aesthetic distinct from its larger siblings. In any case, fans have a lot to like already and more to look forward to.

The Black Bay Fifty-Eight Bronze is available only in select Tudor boutiques and has a price of $4,525. In addition to its bronze bracelet it also includes a fabric strap.

Prime Day Is Over but Walmart’s Deals for Days Is Still Going Strong

Looking for even more great savings? Subscribe to our daily newsletter Today’s Best Deals and have them sent straight to your inbox.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Walmart’s Deals for Days ended June 23.

This year during Prime Day we saw a huge number of online retailers offer up competing deals, some of which offered even bigger savings than Amazon. Walmart, one of those retailers duking it out with Prime Day, has proven to be one of Amazon’s fiercest competitors (just look at Walmart Plus) when it comes to Prime. So Walmart is taking the opportunity to extend its Deals for Days event discounts beyond Prime Day in an effort to give shoppers something to stay excited about.

While some of the sales from earlier this week have ended, these are the best remaining deals you can get at Walmart. Here are some of the best still going.

The 10 Best Air Mattresses You Can Buy in 2021

Air mattresses are a convenient way to make sure you always have a place for guests, both expected and unexpected, to lay their heads. For as long as air mattresses have been around, they’ve been an excellent temporary solution for not only guests, but situations in which you can’t sleep in your regular bed. A good air mattress should be durable, portable, comfortable and firm enough to hold up human bodies. That means you won’t wake up on the floor, and you won’t need to constantly look for holes or tears that are leaking air. From extra-tall air mattresses to some you can take on the road, these are the best air mattresses to buy for every possible scenario.

Best Overall Air Mattress: SoundAsleep Dream Series Air Mattress

    Courtesy

    Dream Series Air Mattress

    SoundAsleep amazon.com

    $149.95

    • SureGrip bottom prevents slipping
    • Built-in air pump
    • Noisy inflation
    • Heavy

At $120, SoundAsleep’s Dream Series Air Mattress is not a cheap buy, but its features justify the cost. The mattress uses what the brand calls ComfortCoil Technology, which is a system of internal air coils to prevent sagging and drooping. The air coils also give the mattress significantly more stability than standard air mattresses (it feels nearly as firm as a regular mattress). SoundAsleep considers this mattress a double-high air bed, and at 19-inches high, it is on the tall side. Active sleepers will appreciate the SureGrip bottom so the mattress stays put on slick surfaces, while the top surface is waterproof and puncture-resistant.

Best Splurge Air Mattress: Aerobed Pillowtop Queen Air Mattress

    Courtesy

    Pillowtop 24-Inch Air Mattress

    AeroBed bedbathandbeyond.com

    $259.99

    • Remote control for inflation
    • Extra-fast deflation
    • Lack of raised sides means you can roll off

The Aerobed Pillowtop stands at two feet high, making it easy to mount and dismount. A luxe pillowtop makes for a supremely comfortable feel, and a built-in USB charger is a highlight for anyone with an electronic device. The “Whoosh” valve is an ingenious name and way to deflate the mattress quickly when you’re in a hurry, and a firmness control wand is the ultimate lazy person’s tool for custom comfort at the touch of a button.

Best Budget Air Mattress: Beautyrest Simmons Hi-Loft Air Mattress

    Courtesy

Hi Loft Raised Adjustable Air Bed Mattress

    Beautyrest walmart.com

    $66.99

    • Includes an inflation pump
    • One-touch firmness adjustment
    • Lacks an anti-slip base

If you don’t foresee too many drop-in guests, you probably don’t need to spend a lot on an air mattress. The Hi-Loft is under $100, even for the queen-sized, and it still works wonders for sporadic uses. It’s 17 inches tall and comes with a plug-in pump for speedy inflations. Picky sleepers can adjust the mattress’ firmness with single-touch controls. A raised perimeter prevents sleepers from rolling off, and the vertical beam construction was designed to provide ergonomic back support. While the mattress has a velvet top for comfort, we always recommend using a sheet on an air mattress for hygiene.

Best Air Mattress for Camping: Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XLite Sleeping Pad

    Backcountry

    NeoAir XLite Sleeping Pad

    Therm-a-Rest backcountry.com

    $189.95

    • Super lightweight
    • Suitable for almost all conditions
    • Easy inflation; quick deflation

The mummy-shaped Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XLite Sleeping Pad is the choice pick for those hitting the trail. It is low-profile and lightweight, weighing just one pound for the long size. The mattress’ ThermaCapture is a reflective coating that prevents body heat loss by returning it back to you. A patented Triangular Core Matrix offers the best warmth-to-weight ratio, which is why the technology is used in most of the brand’s best-selling gear.

Best Self-Inflating Air Mattress: Insta-Bed Raised Air Mattress with Never Flat Pump

    Amazon

Raised Air Mattress with Never Flat Pump

    Insta-Bed amazon.com

    $174.99

    $139.99 (20% off)

    • Different firmness levels
    • Sensor automatically registers when air is low and re-inflates
    • Must be plugged in to sleep on

The Insta-Bed nails its inflating technology in a way that few other air mattress brands have managed to achieve. The mattress has two pumps: its primary pump quickly inflates and deflates, and with the turn of a dial, sleepers can choose their desired firmness; a secondary pump monitors air pressure throughout the night and kicks in if it detects a loss of air.

Best Air Mattress for Kids: Intex Kids Travel Bed Set

    Kids Travel Bed Set

    Intex amazon.com

    $39.99

    • Extra-high perimeter
    • Stable
    • Manual air pump

Resembling a shallow pool, this mattress from Intex is a choice pick for kids who might manage to roll off the bed. If you need another sleep surface, remove the inner mattress to accommodate an extra person. A hand pump is included, and it might be easy enough to get your kids to inflate their own bed.

Best Low-Lying Air Mattress: Intex Dura-Beam Series Pillow Rest Classic Airbed

    Courtesy

Dura-Beam Series Pillow Rest Classic Airbed

    Intex amazon.com

    $36.99

    • Wallet friendly
    • Built-in pillow
    • Noisy to inflate

For an affordable option that’s also lower to the ground, go for the Intex Dura-Beam Series Pillow Rest Classic Airbed. It sits at just 10 inches tall, which makes it easier to get on and off, as well as decreasing inflation and deflation times. The built-in pillow support is a nice touch, and as one reviewer proclaims, it’s “totally worth the money.”

Best Convertible Air Mattress: Coleman EasyStay 4-N-1 Single High Airbed

    Courtesy

    EasyStay 4-N-1 Single High Airbed

    Coleman amazon.com

    $59.99

    • Four mattresses in one
    • Affordable
    • Good support and stability
    • Pump sold separately

If you never know what guests may drop in, the Coleman EasyStay might be the mattress for you. It’s a “4-n-1” air mattress, easily transitioning from a twin-sized mattress, extra-high twin-sized mattress, two twin-sized mattresses or a king-sized mattress. It’s backed by a one-year warranty, and comes equipped with a dual-sealed, leak-free valve so you should never have to be worried about losing air. It rolls up easily for storage, basically turning into an over-sized burrito.

Best High-Capacity Air Mattress: Sable Air Mattress

    Courtesy

    Air Mattress

    Sable amazon.com

    $95.99

    • Quick inflation and deflation
    • Good back support
    • High weight capacity
    • Loud to inflate

With its 661-pound weight capacity, this Sable air mattress offers one of the highest weight capacities. The built-in motor inflates and deflates quickly, allowing for adjustable firmness levels to achieve maximum personal comfort. The air mattress has an integrated raised pillow design (though we recommend still using an actual pillow), and because of the mattress’ I-beam structure, it offers better support and spine alignment than comparable options.

Best Air Mattress with a Headboard: Intex Dura Beam Elevated Fiber Tech Soft Air Mattress Bed

    Courtesy

Dura Beam Elevated Fiber Tech Soft Air Mattress Bed

    Intex amazon.com

    $117.99

    • Integrated headboard
    • Good support
    • Doesn’t work with a fitted sheet

The Intex Dura Beam Elevated Fiber Tech Soft Air Mattress Bed offers one of the closest experiences to sleeping on a regular bed thanks to its integrated headboard. It gives extra head support and keeps pillows in place if the air mattress isn’t pushed up against the wall. It comes in at a lofty 18 inches, making for easy mounting and dismounting.

12 Great Bucket Hats to Wear This Season

With summer in full swing, it’s hard to think of sunny days without bucket hats. Early on, however, the bucket hat was meant for more inclement weather. First seen on the heads of fishermen in the early 1900s, the bucket was originally embodied in woolen tweed fabrics which were naturally water-repellent. From there, the hat moved ashore as the Irish walking hat and became a staple piece of the country’s style through the mid-1900s.

Today, thanks to tropical military uniforms, bucket hats have more of a warm-weather connotation and are usually seen in a canvas or twill fabric. But like their predecessor, they still come with a wide, downward-sloping brim that spans the entire perimeter of the crown. Just as all bucket hats provide us with 360-degree coverage, we’ve rounded up a list of bucket hats from all angles.

Best Overall Bucket Hat: American Trench Corduroy Bucket Hat

Corduroy Bucket Hat

American Trench American Trench

$48.00

Cut from 100-percent corduroy fabric made in New York, American Trench’s bucket hat boasts very little branding and a super-soft, velvet-like, fine whale feel. It’s nice enough to dress up, I’d argue.

Best Upgrade Bucket Hat: Kapital Patchwork Bandana-Print Cotton Bucket Hat

Patchwork Bandana-Print Cotton Bucket Hat

Kapital Mr Porter

$165.00

You’re already wearing a bucket hat. Don’t be shy about letting be a bit loud. Bandana motifs are a surefire marker of a Kapital accessory, and this cotton bucket hat has four different swatches sewn into it. It’s one-size-fits-all with a circumference of 21.7 inches.

Best Affordable Bucket Hat: Standard Cloth Shrunken Cotton Bucket Hat

Another one size option (with a 22-inch circumference), Standard Cloth’s shrunken cotton hat comes in seven colors, each with an unstructured crown, a wraparound seam at the brim and stitched in grommets for even better breathability.

Stüssy Jute Weave Bucket Hat

Trust a surf brand to make one of the best bucket hats around. (Yes, it has since evolved into a streetwear giant, but look back at their roots!) Stüssy’s Jute Weave one comes in two sizes, small/medium and large/x-large. It’s sturdier, with a unique, almost burlap-like texture afforded by its weave.

Battenwear Reversible Bucket Hat

Reversible Bucket Hat

Battenwear End Clothing

$95.00

Ever think to yourself, ‘Oh, I wish I could turn this hat inside out?’ No? Although it may seem like a ploy for someone on the run, Battenwear’s nylon bucket hat is reversible for a reason: to be subtle on one side and to show off their Ikat pattern on the other. Plus, it packs down small enough to fit inside your pant pocket.

Wood Wood Nylon Bucket Hat

Wood Wood’s lilac bucket hat almost looks sun-faded. (It’s not.) This soft pastel accessory will shade you from the sun and exude an aura of easygoingness.

Alltimers’ Broadway bucket hat might not bestow you the talent to belt out numbers on a New York City show stage, but it’ll give you the confidence to stroll down your main street in a sleek, albeit statement-making, accessory.

Adsum Daisy Bucket Hat

$55.00

Since we’re recommending you wear bucket hats at the height of the year’s hottest season, why not provide you with a white one. (White textiles absorb less visible light.) Adsum’s Daisy — green name — number is made from 16S twill, aka super-soft cotton.

The 12 Best Fitness Products of Summer 2021

Decathlon

$35.00

As with yoga, the features at play in yoga mats operate according to balance. A thicker mat provides comfort but typically sacrifices stability, for instance. We’ve found that Decathlon’s Kimjaly 8mm mat offers the best of all worlds, particularly for more casual yogis but certainly not excluding seasoned pros. Its thick, textured foam is comfortable and supportive, even during fast-paced flows, and grippy even when things get sweaty (we did notice some slipping with sweat, but it was rare). The mat also has a grooved line running down the middle, which is a nice visual aid for alignment, and it’s lightweight at just over four pounds — it even comes with a shoulder strap.

One downside is that its material (PVC foam) isn’t eco-friendly, which is often a consideration for those who practice yoga. You can find eco-friendly options further in this guide and yoga mats for specific needs and practices, but for $35, it’s hard to find a yoga mat with as many features as this one.

The 12 Best Product Splurges of Summer 2021

This story is part of the 2021 Summer Gear Awards. To see the full list of winners, click here.

While Gear Patrol editors are deal sleuths and proponents of value-packed items, we acknowledge that there are some products truly worth splurging on. We’re not talking about status symbols or flashy brands, rather gear that’s purpose-built to perform at the highest level. And though these aren’t impulse buys, they represent some of the best-in-class gear for summer. From electric mountain bikes to tower fans, these are the products worth spending a little extra on.

Specialized Turbo Levo SL Expert Carbon

Specialized

$9,025.00

Weighing in at 37 pounds (8 less than the second lightest) and offering a 40-mile range, the Levo SL is a true unicorn. It looks and feels like a pedal bike and almost creates a new category as the first eMTB with a custom-engineered motor and battery. Specialized realized many riders don’t need massive batteries and would rather save the weight. If there is one bike that will convert diehard enduro riders into e-bike junkies, the Levo SL is it.

MORE E-MOUNTAIN BIKES

Tecnica Plasma S Men’s

Outdoor Gear Exchange

$150.00

A year after the release of the full-size Forge, Tecnica brought its custom heat molding to the hiking shoe category with the low-cut Plasma. The process is entirely the same: there are two rounds of heat molding, one for the insole and a second for the upper. It uses the same machine, which is available at retailers where the shoes are sold, and takes less than 30 minutes. (While the Plasma is not the most expensive shoe in this guide, the real step-up is this extra step involved in getting it.) As with the Forge, the result is a hiking shoe that fits immediately — no break-in period.

The Plasma is on the more rugged end of the hiking shoe spectrum thanks to its stiff rubber outsole, but it’s still more flexible than many approach shoes and suitable to both long and short hikes, though maybe not walking around in a city all day.

MORE HIKING SHOES

Cultiver Linen Fitted Sheet

Cultiver

$160.00

After sleeping on a number of rough and scraggly linen sheets, I found Cultiver’s sheets had a shorter break-in period, thanks to a pre-enzyme wash, compared to comparable linen sheets. Cultiver offers its linen sheets in a wide array of muted and understated colors, which is the result of a first-rate dye process. The weaving, sewing and dyeing are all exceptional, a given considering the price point. At $385 for a queen set, they’re certainly an investment, but they’re still nowhere near as expensive as other linen sheets that are of a lesser quality.

MORE SHEETS

Mesken Blackout Shades

Mesken

$75.00

The direct-to-consumer “we cut out the middle-man!” bit is tired, but in the case of quality blackout blinds and shades, it’s still relevant. Mesken’s shades can be ordered in a variety of colors and materials, and the size is completely customizable to fit your window situation. Finding sturdy, good-looking blackout blinds is a smart investment, too; when drawn in the height of summer, they significantly reduce outdoor heat making its way inside, which results in a smaller A/C bill for you.

AGV AX9 Helmet

Revzilla

The AGV AX-9 is made from lightweight carbon fiber, bringing the weight down to just 3.69 pounds and making it more comfortable for long road miles. It also includes some added features to extends its versatility for ADV riders.

The helmet integrates a multi-modal mouth port, which allows you to remove the standard screen at the front of the helmet, allowing up to 300% more airflow front to back. The helmet also adds an oversized visor for extra aerodynamics and more eye shading. The visor is removable and adjustable, letting you adjust any sail effect on the fly.

MORE MOTORCYCLE HELMETS

Looft Charcoal Electric Lighter & Firestarter

Huckberry

$100.00

A splurge is not a matter of need, and you don’t need a Looft Lighter, but you should want one. It is essentially a super-charged hair dryer that, in 60 seconds or less, brings a cold brick of charcoal to grilling temperature. If you’ve ever grilled with charcoal you’d know that is a modern miracle, given the task typically requires 15 minutes. Because it doesn’t use gas or a flame, it’s also a pretty safe tool.

Made for fish in the six- to 18-inch range, this supple 12-foot rod can take on even the most finicky of trout. It’s light, playful and responsive, doing everything you want it to — and then some. An extra $30 will net you a furled line, spool and three hand-tied flies to go with it.

Oru Inlet Kayak

Oru Kayak

$899.00

The Inlet is smaller, lighter and cheaper than any of Oru’s other kayaks. It weighs 20 pounds (six less than Oru’s previously lightest model), but it packs down into a polygonal box that’s nearly half the size of the company’s other boats. To get there, Oru’s designers created an all-new folding pattern. We can report that, compared to Oru’s other kayaks, the Inlet is significantly easier and more intuitive to transform from box to boat and back again thanks to this new design. (Oru boasts it can be done in less than five minutes with some practice, and we can confirm that claim.)

6 Tricks All Sonos Owners Should Know

Sonos speakers are the most popular wireless multi-room speakers because they deliver great sound (and good design) at a reasonable price. Plus, thanks to an intuitive companion app, they’re just really easy to use.

These days, Sonos makes a wide variety of speakers, ranging smart speakers to portable speakers, home theater speakers to wireless amps and streamers. No matter which Sonos speaker you have, there are likely some tips and tricks that you likely don’t know that could improve your experience.

How to regroup your Sonos speakers without the app

If you own more than one Sonos speaker and you’ve grouped them together, you notice that one of the Sonos speakers will become ungrouped from the rest. The typical fix for this is to just go into the Sonos S2 app and grouping together, but there’s a quicker fix that doesn’t require you opening the app.

Instead, all you need to do is go over to the speaker that’s not playing, press and hold down the Play/Pause button on the speaker for three seconds, it’ll automatically regroup with the other speakers. All Sonos speakers have a Play/Pause button, so this little technique will work with all Sonos speakers.

(The only catch is that all your Sonos speakers have to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.)

Turn your Sonos speaker into an alarm clock

Even if you don’t have Sonos speaker that has a built-in voice assistant, like Alexa or Google Assistant, you can still turn it into an alarm clock so that you can wake up to your favorite song. Or you can schedule your Sonos speakers to start playing at a certain time, as well as stop playing at a certain time. All you have to do is take advantage of the Alarm feature within the Sonos app.

  1. Open the Sonos app.
  2. Select the Settings tab.
  3. Select System.
  4. Scroll down and select Add Alarm.
    1. From here you can make a custom alarm that plays on one or more of your Sonos speakers at specific time. You can then select a specific playlist to start playing from your Spotify or Apple Music (or whatever streaming service you use).

How to manually adjust the EQ of your Sonos speakers

One of the best features that Sonos has is TruePlay (and Automatic TruePlay on the Roam), a software that calibrates each Sonos speaker so that it sounds best for the room it is in. Of course, this is Sonos’s interpretation of what sounds best, and you might like something different. Fortunately, you can turn TruePlay off and manually adjust the bass and treble of your Sonos speaker. Here’s how.

      1. Open the Sonos app.
      2. Select the Settings tab.
      3. Select System.
      4. Select the Sonos speaker.
      5. Scroll down and select the EQ tab.
      6. Drag the sliders to make adjustments.
        1. You can turn off TruePlay in this same menu. Open the Sonos app > Room Settings > select the speaker > and turn Trueplay off.

How to get of the audio delay when connected to a turntable

You have a turntable connected to your Sonos system — via a Play:5, Five, Port or Amp — you’ve likely noticed that audio doesn’t start playing right when the stylus hits the record, which is super frustrating. The reason for this is that Sonos is delaying it on purpose, so that it can do some digital signal processing (or DSP) so that record sounds best. However, this audio delay kind of defeats a lot of the joy of analog audio. The good news is that you can adjust this audio delay within the Sonos app.

          1. Make sure the Line-In connection is set up properly with your Sonos product. (See here.)
          2. Open the Sonos app > select Settings > and select System.
          3. Select your speaker or wireless amp with the Line-In connection.
          4. Scroll down and select Audio Delay > select Low (75ms).
            1. In this menu, there are four different audio delays that you can choose from: Max (2,000 ms), High (150 ms), Medium (113 ms) and Low (75 ms). By default, the Line-In connection of your Sonos speaker or wireless amp is set to Max, which is 2,000 milliseconds or two second; this allows for the most time for the Sonos product to optimize its sound. The Low setting has an audio delay of 75 milliseconds. It’s still a delay, but you can’t really notice it.

Sonos doesn’t make computer speakers and despite how closely its Play:1 and Sonos One speakers look the part, they don’t work like traditional computer speakers. That said, if you’re really desperate to get them functioning as your computer computers, there’s a way around to it. It’s kind of messy and definitely expensive, but it can be done.

First, you’re going to buy a Sonos Port ($449). The streamer is typically used to stream music to analog speakers or to sync those speakers to your existing multi-room system. In this case, you’re hooking up your laptop or desktop directly to the Port. Here’s how you do it.

              1. Connect your laptop or desktop to the Sonos Port via its line-in input. This will link your computer’s audio to the Sonos app.
              2. Open the Sonos app, go to Settings, Room Settings and then choose the Sonos speakers you want to use as your new computer speakers.
              3. Choose “Autoplay Room” so that your Sonos speakers will automatically play when the Line-In detects a signal.
                1. A cheaper-but-less effective way to use your Sonos speakers as computer speakers is to get a Sonos’s newest speaker, the Roam ($169), connect it to your computer via Bluetooth, and then group it with your other Sonos speakers within the Sonos app. (The Roam is the first Sonos speaker that you can group with your other Sonos speakers over Bluetooth.)

How to factory reset your Sonos speakers

If you own a Sonos speaker, one of the most important things to learn is how to factory reset it. Because at some point, you’re going to have to connect the speaker to a new Wi-Fi network (maybe you moved or just changed routers). Or maybe the speaker just stops working correctly. Or maybe you’re looking to sell it. No matter what, knowing how to factory reset it is important and it’s a little different for each Sonos speaker.

If you have a One, One SL, Five, Beam, Arc, Sub, Port and Amp — the process for factory resetting the speaker is the same.

                  1. Unplug the speaker.
                  2. Press and hold the Connect button located on the back of the speaker. Plug the speaker back into the wall out.
                  3. Continue holding down the Connect button until the speaker’s light starts flashing white and amber.
                  4. When the light starts flashing green, the speaker has been reset.
                    1. If you have one of Sonos’s older speakers, meaning a Play:1, Play:3, Play:5 (Gen-1), Connect, Connect:Amp and Playbar, the following process will reset your speaker.

                      1. Unplug the speaker.
                      2. Press and hold the Play/Pause button located on the top of the speaker. Plug the speaker back into the wall out.
                      3. Continue holding down the Play/Pause button until the speaker’s light starts flashing white and amber.
                      4. When the light starts flashing green, the speaker has been reset.
                        1. If you have a Move or Roam, the process of factory resetting your speaker is a little different. Read our guide by clicking the link below to learn more.

Two Unique Whiskies to Gift This Year

Giving a gift, at any time of year, can be difficult. Unless the person you’re shopping for told you exactly what they want, they generally fall into one of two categories — either they don’t want anything, or they have everything they could want because they’ve already bought it for themselves. There is, however, a gift that will be equally appealing to those in both categories: high-quality whisky. If you have no idea where to start when it comes to the “juice,” Angel’s Envy has you covered with two excellent choices.

Angel’s Envy Straight Bourbon Whiskey Port Wine Barrel Finish

              Angel’s Envy

If you’re looking for a gift the recipient is guaranteed to use, you can’t go wrong with Angel’s Envy — particularly its signature expression finished in Port Wine barrels. Even if they are a whiskey expert, we guarantee they will enjoy this expression. The Port Wine Barrel-finished bourbon is bottled at 86.6 proof, providing full-bodied flavor as the master blenders intended.

If they are more of a rye drinker than a bourbon drinker, Angel’s Envy has you covered there as well, with a unique rye that will be unlike anything they’ve ever tasted. Angel’s Envy’s founders sampled over 100 rums to find just the right barrel to complement their rye. The rye rests for up to 18 months in Caribbean rum casks before bottling. It’s a gift they will enjoy sip after sip.

Beast: John Bonham and the Rise of Led Zeppelin

Amazingly Beast: John Bonham and the Rise of Led Zeppelin is the first-ever biography of the iconic John Bonham, arguably the greatest rock drummer to ever do it. Considering his infamy & influence, this story is long overdue. Within months of being recruited into the fledgling Led Zep, Bonham & the boys shot to stardom & were well on their way to becoming the most important rock band of the 70s. By 1980, after chart-topping hits, multi-platinum back-to-back albums, & mega stadium world tours, Bonham was dead. This biography takes readers through it all.

A pair of handmade hiking boots can cost as much as $750, but right now there’s a pair made by a small Italian brand called Naglev available for $184 at Huckberry, which is 20 percent off its regular price of $230. Before you discount that as small change, know that the shoe, called the Unico Hiker, is unlike any other hiking shoe available (it’s also on our list of the best hiking boots available).

Naglev is based in the Alps, where outdoor footwear was invented, and it created the Unico to function as a middle ground between a hiking boot and a trail running sneaker. It calls to mind approach shoes (sturdy, low-cut hiking shoes typically used by rock climbers who face long treks through technical terrain on the way to a climb), but it’s built much differently. The upper is made of one single piece of Kevlar fabric — yes, the same stuff used to make body armor — and its inside is lined with a sock-like wool liner. This construction creates a remarkably durable shoe that’s unexpectedly comfortable, and entirely unique.

This infrequent deal is part of Huckberry’s non-Amazon Prime Day savings event, which takes place from June 18-22. So you’ve only got a few days to take advantage of these savings.

Lexus’s Land Cruiser Twin Could Pack Impressive Power

It’s been a tough fact to come to grips with, but it seems more and more likely with every passing day that the new 300-Series Toyota Land Cruiser won’t be coming over to the United States. After all, when the new model launched in early June, the carmaker’s American websites were silent about it; the only news about the Land Cruiser’s future here was a statement late last year announcing that there would be no 2022 model year version of it in U.S. Toyota dealerships. Disappointing, sure, but not all that surprising; after all, the Land Cruiser sells in diminutive numbers.

Among the vehicles that outsell the Land Cruiser here, in fact: its more-expensive Lexus LX twin. And while Toyota USA may never bring the J300 Land Cruiser here, the next-gen Lexus version seems far more likely to reach our shores — and if a new rumor is reported to be true, it could be a potent beast indeed.

According to a report from Japan’s Creative Trend that made its way to us via Motor1, the 300-Series Lexus LX lineup will be topped with an LX 750h model that melds the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 found in the Land Cruiser with an electric motor to create a hybrid variant that pumps out 480 horsepower and a juicy 642 lb-ft of torque. As with the Land Cruiser, all that power would flow to all four wheels all the time through a 10-speed automatic.

Considering that rumors of a hybrid V6 dogged the 300 Series throughout much of its development and that evidence certainly suggests the all-new 2022 Toyota Tundra may be scoring a hybrid engine, odds certainly seem promising that the new J300 Lexus LX will net one, as well. Fingers crossed that we’ll be able to experience that new leather-lined Lexus overlander here in the United States…and that we won’t have to wait too long.

Check out this topography-inspired watch called the Terra Time

When purchasing a new watch, it’s always a good idea to go with reliable brands. In fact, collectors will likely namedrop Swiss brands or perhaps a few others that excel in accuracy, reliability and craftsmanship. In our opinion, if this is the basis for what types of timepieces to buy, then you’re missing out on some unique stuff – just like the Terra Time by Projects Watches.

With watches, aside from the branding, what immediately grabs your attention is the design of the dial. Many watchmakers love to show off their prowess by crafting elaborate details. Some even choose to show off the movement via an open-work approach.

The Terra Time, on the other hand, draws inspiration from topography. If you know how to read maps, then you likely have an idea of what this accessory is all about. It might not be as fancy as others, but the distinct presentation is striking.

It comes in a 40-mm stainless steel case with a stylish matte finish. For its price point, it runs on an unnamed Japanese quartz movement and is water-resistant up to 5 ATM. Despite the minimalist aesthetic, the 3D layers in varying tones of the dial are something you don’t see every day.

You have sword watch hands that tell the time via round cutouts for the hour markers. Project Watches is offering the Terra Time in three versions. There’s Gray, Black, and Steel colorways, but like the former two thanks to the color contrast of their dial.  Still, the all-silver profile of the latter will have its own share of fans.

Reef’s signature bottle opener remains intact on its Spackler golf sandals

When you’re hitting the links during your free time, gearing up the right way is a must. Depending on the rules of the course, your attire should be taken into consideration. Still, there might be some establishments that are a little lax about the dress code. If you just want to relax and keep your feet ventilated, the Reef Spackler might be what you need.

Now, avid golfers will likely frown upon your decision, but once you show them that perfect swing, they might just change their minds. What looks like your average pair of sandals actually hides a clever little secret. Golf shoes serve a specific purpose, which is to give your traction during the motions.

Thus, Reef arms the Spackler with leather straps and replaceable cleats. Just like on golf shoes these are in strategic sections of the outsole. Some may notice that it looks just like the Mick Fanning model, but it’s definitely not. To improve comfort, it boasts an air cushion on the heel section of the midsole.

You will likely draw some stares, but as long as you’re comfortable, it won’t really matter. Plus, not everybody can claim to open a bottle with their footwear. That’s right, Reef is known for sandals that come with a bottle opener on the sole.

The Spackler is not about to be the first to drop this handy feature, which is great. Unfortunately, those hoping to grab one should do so soon. Reef is only producing 100 pairs of its golf sandals, which at $100 will sell out quickly.
