LĒVO II: Switch from store-bought to homemade infused oil, butter, honey and more

Dabbling in the kitchen has taught us some certain methods to bring the best flavors out of your food. It all starts with meal preparation and the ingredients that go into the mix. Add some cutting-edge culinary tech and what we get is a gadget called the LĒVO II. It may look like a fancy coffee machine, but this is something else.

What it does is make the process of infusion convenient. No more fiddling around with jars, measuring spoons, oils, and herbs which leaves you with a lot to tidy up afterwards. Using the LĒVO II may be a straightforward affair, but it to have some basic know-how on what spices pair nicely with what you plan to infuse.

As detailed by the manufacturer, you can fill the ceramic-coated reservoir with oil, butter, milk, honey, or glycerine. With the LĒVO II, you can practically say goodbye to store-bought products and switch to homemade goodness. This all-in-one device lets you dry, activate, and infuse with a push of a button.

To begin, grab your favorite selection of herbs and place everything in the included Power Pod and cover. Open the lid of the infuser and set position container inside as indicated on the machine. Set the cycle according to the recipe and wait. Once ready, attach the magnetic stirrer, pour in the liquid, and follow the prompts.

When it finishes, you can directly dispense the contents into a jar or bowl and enjoy. The LĒVO II can infuse up to 16 ounces of liquid without any unhealthy additives. It also comes in several colors to match your other kitchen appliances. Choose between Licorice Black, Honey Cream, Garden Green, Pacific Blue, Robin Blue, Meyer Yellow, Jet Black, Alpine White, Cayenne Red, and Paprika Red

Vadolibero designed the magnificent DOMUS R3 as a refined bike storage system

Let’s just say that you want to take a break from driving around in your exotic supercar. Perhaps a buddy has been bugging you about cycling and its health benefits. Assuming that you are spending a fortune on your two-wheeler, Vadolibero is offering a classy storage solution. Designed as an elegant piece of furniture – the DOMUS R3 — to enhance any space within your home.

Much like high-performance vehicles, some road bikes from leading brands can cost as much as a supercar. The design, materials, and technology these bring to the table are undeniably top-notch. So, you might want to show it off for everyone else to gawk at. The DOMUS R3 and its craftsmanship make that all happen.

It may look like a fancy rack to hang your clothing, but it comes with multiple storage options for your bike and gear. Instead of just a straight rod of satin-polished stainless steel, it is intentionally shaped like the Vadolibero emblem – a stylized handlebar.

The underside features touch-enabled LED lighting to draw all eyes to your ride and accessories when the sun goes down. A regenerated leather mat protects the wooden surface of the base from scratches. Meanwhile, a stainless-steel clamp keeps your bicycle upright on the DOMUS R3.

Cubicles and drawers below provide more space for all kinds of stuff. Wooden pegs let you hang helmets, shades, headphones, and more. Choose between black oak, dark brown oak, Canaletto walnut, and natural oak for the solid wood frame. The Vadolibero DOMUS R3 is a striking bike storage system befitting your precious mechanical steed.

H2X Global modifies a Ford Ranger into the hydrogen-electric Warrego pickup truck

Ford’s pickup trucks are the best of its class when it comes to performance and reliability. With the Blue Oval’s push for sustainability seeing success with the likes of the Mustang Mach-E, we’re barely a year away from the release of its all-electric F-150 Lightning. Meanwhile, those who can’t wait could check out the Warrego from H2X Global.

Before we move forward with all the great stuff about this emission-free ride, you should know that each Warrego starts off as a Ford Ranger. What follows is a conversion from H2X Global wherein they take out the original powertrain and replace it with a hydrogen-electric system.

You heard that right, hydrogen fuel cells – despite the lack of infrastructure – the carmaker is all in with the technology. It was not long ago we talked about the Zero Emission Hydrogen Fuel Cell Boot Pickup SCG. What makes the latter fascinating is the boutique carmaker’s plans to have it compete in the 2022 Baja 1000.

H2X Global is not making any bold claims but is promising interested clients all-terrain reliability. The Warrego is available in 2×4 and 4×4 trims. Depending on your needs, they can also configure the pickup truck as a single or dual-cab pickup truck.

While hints of the Ranger remain noticeable if you look closely, the silhouette is now sportier than the original. At first, we thought it was just a type on the website. Nonetheless, it seems the early working models pack a less-than-desirable output of only 93 horsepower.

However, the machines boast a payload capacity of 3,000 lbs which suggests a powerful torque. H2X Global says the Warrego is a flexible platform. Owners can use it in various industries such as mining, construction, border patrolling, and forest surveillance, to name a few.

5 Legendary Tool Watches and the Man Responsible for Them

Watch enthusiasts know the name Sinn as being more or less synonymous with tough German tool watches. Models like the U1 and the EZM series are recognizable to many, but less familiar is the man behind this celebrated brand.

Helmut Sinn, who passed away in 2018 at the age of 102, was an influential figure in watchmaking during the latter half of the 20th century, and his eponymous brand has made some of the toughest, most forward-thinking tool watches in the industry. Sinn was a former pilot who sought to form his own watchmaking brand during the 1960s. He aimed to produce high-quality watches that he could sell at a competitive price by cutting out the middleman and selling direct to consumers through catalogs. This is a business tactic associated with modern brands like Casper and Everlane, but in Sinn’s early years, it was incredibly novel.

Sinn’s specialty was tough and legible pilot’s chronographs, originally sold to the German military and police. Since its early days, it produced one of the first automatic watches that went into space, it reinvented the chronograph even and it helped get another brand — Bell & Ross — off the ground. Today, the brand is a pioneer in technologies that further the durability and legibility of mechanical timekeeping. Of course, none of this would have been possible without Helmut Sinn. The following timepieces are five of the brand’s most important models, and they represent his legacy and brand vision.

Heuer 1550 Bundeswehr

Influential-Sinn-Watches-gear-patrol-Heuer-Bundeswehr-3H

Yes, one of Sinn’s most iconic contributions to watch history was a Heuer. Originally made for the Bundeswehr, the German armed forces, the 1550 Bund featured a case made by Sinn. Sinn eventually took over the contract for servicing these watches in the 1980s, and so some can be found with newer Sinn-branded replacement dials. This arrangement eventually led to the Sinn 156, a continuation of the classic Bund chronograph, and later the 158.

Sinn 140

The Omega Speedmaster isn’t the only space chronograph. In 1985, German astronaut Reinhard Furrer went out and purchased a PVD 140 chronograph then wore it on the Spacelab D1 mission where it is said to have performed flawlessly. The watch featured a massive PVD-coated case and a Lemania 5100, considered one of the most durable chronograph movements ever made. Today the watch is still made but features a modified Valjoux 7750 as well as a stainless steel case hardened through the brand’s Tegiment technology.

Sinn 144

The 144 might be Sinn’s most recognizable design, produced, mostly unchanged, for decades. While the watch’s shrouded lug case design and info-packed dial make it stand out, the 144 is notable for helping launch another brand: Bell & Ross. During the early 1990s, Sinn produced watches to sell under the Bell & Ross name while the burgeoning watchmaker worked on its own original designs. The rebranded 144 GMT was one of those early watches that helped bring Bell & Ross into the mainstream.

Sinn EZM 1

In 1997, Sinn debuted one of its ultimate cult hits: the EZM 1.1 Mission Timer. Designed for the German military and first adopted by the Zentrale Unterstützungsgruppe Zoll (think of them as Germany’s SWAT), it featured a novel chronograph configuration where the subdials were axed in favor of chronograph seconds and minutes hand displayed on the main dial along with the running time, aiding in legibility. The watch was powered by a modified Lemania 5100 that was housed in a lightweight titanium case. In 2017, Sinn reissued this watch for its 20th anniversary.

Sinn U1

Influential-Sinn-Watches-gear-patrol-Diving-Watch-U1

Sinn is best known for its chronographs but, in 2005, it made one helluva dive watch. The U1 was notable for eschewing traditional stainless steel for steel used in the making of submarines, which the brand maintains is more resistant to seawater than stainless steel normally used in watchmaking. The watch is still made today and boasts the same tough-as-nails case design and an impressive 1,000-meter depth rating. For those that prefer something smaller than the U1’s 44mm case (and don’t need a kilometer of water resistance), there’s more recent 41mm U50.

The DrySee Waterproof Bandage Has A Wetness Indicator

When it comes to wound care, bandages help prevent re-infection and helps speed up the healing process. But it can be a hassle to change them often in a day especially when it gets splashed or even slightly wet with sweat. The tendency is, they start to slip off, at times without you knowing. This then leaves your wound vulnerable to dirt, germs, and other contaminants.  But with DrySee Waterproof Bandage, worrying about wet plasters becomes an afterthought.

This ingenious first aid kit uses patented Liquid Intrusion technology to prevent any form of liquid or moisture from entering your wound. It provides a secure, waterproof covering, especially for low exudate wounds. This is then ideal for post-surgery in which doctors often tell their patients to avoid bathing to keep the operated area dry.

But with the DrySee Waterproof Bandage, said patients can take a shower without worrying about the wound. It seals off the water using a clear, flexible, non-latex adhesive and non-stick absorbent pad. The pad is made with nonwoven gauze with 100 percent USP cotton cleaned sans the use of chlorine.

However, if ever moisture or water does seep in, then you would know when this happens. That’s because the gauze comes equipped with a light indicator that alerts of you this situation. The barrier around the perimeter turns from light blue to dark blue if wet. It also changes color when water passes through the second adhesive ring and reaches the site of the wound.

The internal gauze pad also changes color when the wound seeps fluid. Then you would know it’s time for a bandage change. But all in all, the DrySee Waterproof Bandage lessens the number of times you change plasters in a day as it can last up to three days. Simply stash it in your bag as part of your survival kit.

Can These $99 Earbuds Dethrone the AirPods with Pure Style?

Since their arrival in 2016, Apple’s AirPods have comfortably become the ‘buds to beat. While some competitors skew more premium, and others more affordable, no other buds have managed to become even half as ubiquitous or iconic.

Yet.

The Ear (1) are one of the most hyped tech products in recent memory. The first product by Nothing, a startup company spearheaded by one of the co-founders of OnePlus, these wireless earbuds support premium features like wireless charging and active noise-cancellation and cost just $99. Oh also they look incredible.

After months of leaks and cryptic marketing, the Ear (1) have broken cover and are finally available for purchase. Sort of. They went on sale in early August, but only in limited supply from niche stores like Kith, HBX and Mr. Porter (which only further their hypebeast appeal); they’ll officially go on sale for everybody on August 17 when you can buy direct from Nothing’s website.

“Polishing the magnets, finding the right invisible adhesive, it was all carefully considered.”

In one sense, these buds have steep hill to climb. The Ear (1) are very late to the game and entering a very crowded market. Apple’s first AirPods were released almost five years ago and there are a ton of wireless earbud options to choose from — pretty much every tech and audio company has at least their one pair. According to a recent Statista report, the number of wireless earbuds is expected to triple from 2019 to 2022), and the Ear (1)’s sub-$100 price point takes them into impulse buy territory. But the market is only going to get more crowded from here.

Fortunately, they’ve got a killer feature virtually none of their competitors can match: pure style. Nothing collaborated on the Earbuds (1) with the wizards at Teenage Engineering, known for its evocative and hip synthesizers. Everything in each earbud is designed not only to work well, but also to look incredible, with a transparent vibe that feels both nostalgic and fresh.

“With Ear (1) we wanted to craft an iconic design, using transparency, that would stand out and celebrate the engineering underneath,” said Evangelidis. “Every design choice, from polishing the magnets to finding the right invisible adhesive, was carefully considered. We were even turned down by some suppliers who thought it wouldn’t be possible!”

“There is a sea of sameness with products blurring together.”

is, one of the co-founders of Nothing, because they are primarily an online company with a direct-to-consumer business model. “Where we do have retail channels, including HBX and Kith,” explained Evangelidis. “We’re still able to keep prices competitive because we’re only working with strategic partners who believe in what we are building with Nothing, versus simply wanting to transact.”

tech roundup

Courtesy

The $99 price point, while on the more affordable end, isn’t exactly as uncommon as it used to be. What was once the realm of sketchy knock-offs now includes a lot more options from reputable brands, as Google, Sony, Anker and Samsung all make solid wireless earbuds that come in at under $100. However, very few of those wireless earbuds support noise-cancellation. None support wireless charging. And none of them look this strike

The final product of the Ear (1) is something that looks completely unique, but it also doesn’t feel entirely unfamiliar. This is because the Ear (1) have the same general shape as Apple’s own noise-canceling wireless earbuds, the AirPods Pro. The Ear (1) have stems that are obviously transparent and the charging case is totally different, but the shape of the stem and silicone eartips are very similar.

Evangelidis claims the stem-shaped design is more about function than anything else. “You can easily grasp the earbuds because of the stem’s distinct edges, and the flat surface is more intuitive for gesture controls, like swiping up and down for volume,” he said. “And the third microphone is placed at the bottom of the stem to make it that much closer to your mouth for better call clarity.”

While AirPods themselves increasingly creep down towards the $99 price range (they’re on sale at Amazon for $119 right now) and competitors like Wyze are managing ANC buds as low as $60, the Ear (1)’s look is the ace in the hole, according to Evangelidis.

“There is a sea of sameness with products blurring together,” he said. “The market is overdue for a new player that brings back some sort of excitement to the field of consumer tech, and one that celebrates design and artistry.”

Bushcraft Food Prep Is Made Easy With PDW’s MFSS Titanium Survival Stove

Food is an essential part of any outdoor adventure or for everyday life, for that matter. But camping out can pose a problem because we are limited to the food we can bring. That is, unless, you want to cook and that’s where portable stoves come in just like the Prometheus Design Werx (PDW) MFSS Titanium Survival Stove.

This camping gear is ideal for light carry thanks to its 6AL-4V titanium build and compact size. It only measures 3.03″ H x 3.62″ D and weighs 122g. Yet it packs features ideal for use in the great outdoors. These include a double-wall construction to direct airflow for faster combustion of biomass fuel. It also produces less smoke but emits hotter burns using a variety of fuel sources aside from biomass, it also works with alcohol (isopropyl or denatured) and solid fuel tabs (Hexamine). Thus, the name MFSS, which stands for Multi-Fuel Survival Stove.

The PWD MFSS Titanium Survival Stove also features an adjustable inner core/fuel basket to use with different fuels. A cut-down window makes it easy to feed the biomass fuel without removing the cookware. It can stand on any terrain and remains stable thanks to fold-out legs, while a two-position folding pot stand can fit different cookware sizes.

Aside from its lightweight construction, it also disassembles for minimal footprint and easy packing. It takes apart into five different components. This way you can pack them separately in bags, stowaway pouches, or anywhere you like. Also when it comes to cooking, it can boil up to two cups of water enough to cook survival food packs, make soup, and more.

DJI’s Mini SE is is a compact yet feature-packed drone for novices and professionals

Drone technology has certainly come a long way. In the early days, you needed to grasp the nuances of the controls so you don’t crash it. Now, sensors coupled with advanced algorithms can practically fly your quadcopters with little to no intervention. If you’re interested, gets started with the DJI Mini SE and have fun.

These days, flying drones are no longer just a form of recreation. Creative professionals now mostly use them to take breathtaking aerial shots or record thrilling chase scenes. DJI’s latest model – the Mini SE – is a compact but capable gadget that even a novice can effortlessly operate.

No matter how confident you are, however, we highly recommend that you take it out for a spin first. Given the varying weight and sizes, not all drones handle the same out of the box. Therefore, it’s best to familiarize yourself first before you fly it in public.

At less than 9 ounces, it practically weighs as much as an average smartphone. When not in use, it folds down to a handy 138 × 81 × 58 mm (LxWxH). With the propellers deployed, the DJI Mini SE measures 245 x 289 x 56 mm.

GoPro users might find the lack of mounting options a letdown, but DJI arms it with a camera on a 3-axis motorized gimbal. You can take crisp 12-megapixel still images and record buttery smooth 2.7K video. The maximum transmission range is around two miles, while its 2,600 mAh battery is good for up to 30 minutes of flight.

Now you can enjoy some benefits of a professional-grade drone in a smaller package. DJI also offers optional add-ons to get the best out of your Mini SE. We recommend the propeller guards, extra batteries, and the Two-Way Charging Hub.

Casio ignites nostalgia with the vintage look of the PAC-MAN-themed A100WEPC-1B

We’re no strangers to special collaborations between watchmakers and video game companies. In fact, TAG Heuer recently shook hands with Nintendo to feature their iconic mascot with the Connected x Super Mario. Capcom also promoted Street Fighter V on the Seiko 5. It’s time to take a trip down memory lane with Casio and PAC-MAN for the A100WEPC-1B.

Back when arcades were at the peak of their popularity, Namco’s (now Bandai Namco) hit was guzzling quarters like no tomorrow. Everybody wanted their initials to outrank everyone else for the top score. In fact. Talking about the ghost-gobbling gimmick is giving us flashbacks of the good old days before home consoles took over.

Casio is shipping this nostalgic number in a 40.7 x 32.7 x 9.2-mm resin case. As much as we prefer to showcase sophisticated mechanical timepieces, the A100WEPC-1B deserves some recognition. Capturing the essence of the original game, everything about it is a fantastic tribute to PAC-MAN.

The shiny golden tone frames two sections of the watch face which represent the maze players navigate around in. The top houses an LED-backlit digital LCD for timekeeping, here’s you’ll find the pellet-popping protagonist along with ghosts Blinky and Clyde.

The action continues below where you have four push-buttons alongside Inky and Pinky with a cherry bonus item. As you can see, Casio is paying attention to all the details here. As for the stainless-steel caseback, there’s an engraving of the original PAC-MAN game screen,

Casio completes the look with a black ion-plated bracelet with laser etchings of the game maze, PAC-MAN, and the ghosts. We believe the A100WEPC-1B would make an awesome addition to any watch collection. It’s shipping in special packaging including a display case holding the watch inside.

Six Mexican Brands You Should Know About

clothing

Courtesy

Staying on top of what’s in locally is a far more manageable feat than understanding scenes across the pond or past the southern border. However, the Internet has made accessing the menswear scene in Mexico City or the shirtmakers on Savile Row or the boot-making industry in Léon easier than ever. And, to be frank, you should be shopping from these independent brands over fast fashion stores anyway.

So, set your sights on a region and get to know the burgeoning brands there. Let’s look at Mexico, for example. In Oaxaca, there are artisan communities crafting American workwear out of vintage Mexican materials. In Mexico City, a bar-barbershop-boutique sells cowhide brogues of the utmost quality. In Léon, long-standing traditions inform modern booting silhouettes. This isn’t an exhaustive list detailing every brand there is to know from each of Mexico’s 32 states. Not even close. Instead, this is a starting place, a sampler to whet your appetite, a thread to pull. Six interesting Mexican brands spanning the outdoor industry, the psychedelics space, streetwear, and beyond.

Mucha Carne

From: Mexico City, Mexico

Founded: 2020

Focus: GORP/Outdoors

About: Although the brand caters to an outdoors-savvy clientele, Mucha Carne also makes clothing for “internal trips,” aka spiritual flights piloted by substances like acid, LSD or mushrooms.

Each item in the Mexico City-based brand’s catalog receives a name that references a person pertinent to psychedelics: a foldable trucker hat cut from water-resistant nylon that’s named after María Sabina, a Mazatec sabia who introduced Westerners to Mexican ceremonies involving Psilocybin mushrooms; a micro water-resistant ripstop pant (with a fidlock buckle and Japanese buttons) named after Terrence McKenna, an author, lecturer, and notable proponent of psychedelic substances; a not-so-subtle pair of bottoms with hidden pockets and embedded stretch called Psylocibin; a heavyweight belt with a magnetic buckle that name drops The Doors of Perception, a book about mescaline trips, author Aldous Huxley; and a Kangaroo pocket-equipped shirt that honors LSD creator and magic mushroom pioneer Albert Hofmann.

Founded: 2020

Focus: Workwear

About: Originally launched as a part of co-founders Sam Graziano and Alejandro Gutierrez’s senior thesis, Graziano and Gutiérrez is a slow fashion brand dedicated to showcasing Mexican craftsmanship and classic workwear silhouettes. Hermanos Koumori

From: Mexico City, Mexico

Founded: 2018

Focus: Streetwear

About: “If we just look at it from the outside, Hermanos Koumori is a contemporary streetwear brand based in Mexico City, but for us it is much more than that,” co-founder Alex Leon tells us. “We [Leon and co-founder Alejandro Sandler] see it as a studio that has the versatility to move through different areas like art, objects, literature and graphic design to name a few. We are passionate about stories and narratives, that is why for each one of our collections we create a fictional universe that helps us with the inspiration behind them.”

Hermanos Koumori’s collections have focused on a fictional airline imagined by a Mexican novelist, ancient running clubs, baseball and beyond. The clothing’s streetwear-leaning — suit separates made from ripstop fabric, natural cotton vests — but sensible still. Best of all, it’s designed to withstand everyday wear.

Tetra Aviation to mass-produce its MK-5 EVTOL soon and deliver units by 2022

It has been a couple of years since we first saw concepts of personal aircraft being proposed for the future of travel. One of the issues that regularly come up was the lack of infrastructure for landing and take-off. Therefore, the only viable solution, for now, is VTOL technology just like what the MK-5 from Tetra Aviation has.

This single-seat aircraft is currently in the development phase, but the manufacturer plans to make it commercially available in 2022. For lift, the MK-5 will use 32 smaller rotors vertically set on all four of its fixed wings. Meanwhile, a bigger single rear-mounted rotor provides the thrust to fly around in the skies.

Tetra Aviation’s unveiling of the Mk-5 was during the EAA Airventure 2021 event in Oshkosh, Wisconsin last month. It looks like a regular plane with a pair of oversized wings. Noise and emissions are never an issue thanks to its all-electric system powered by a 13.5 kWh battery.

Sans the operator, the clean and green aircraft tips the scales at roughly 1,000 lbs. According to the company, they’re building the frame out of aviation-grade aluminum with a carbon-fiber-reinforced polymers shell. The composite and alloy construction keeps the overall weight down.

As for the range, Tetra Aviation projects approximately 100 miles on a full charge. Cruising speeds, meanwhile, is about 100 mph. Controlling the MK-5 should be easy for seasoned pilots and newbies. It uses an electrical fly-by-wire joystick system.

For safety, it is equipped with Triple-FC redundancy and a ballistic parachute to deploy in an emergency. Testing and regulatory approval will be following soon before deliveries of the MK-5 can begin. Tetra Aviation might also offer the EVTOL in several trims.

Four Ways for Men to Improve Themselves

image

When it comes to self-improvement, it’s often the little things that ultimately help shape who we are as men. Contrary to what some believe, wanting to improve yourself doesn’t mean you’re completely flawed. Sometimes, men just want to make themselves more well-rounded. But you may be stumped on how and where to start your self-improvement journey. Here are four things you can do to make yourself a better man.

Practice Self-Love

image

To improve yourself properly, the first step is to practice self-love. Everyone has something they don’t like about themselves or something that makes them feel insecure. But keep in mind that, as a man, you don’t need to have bulging biceps like The Rock to be manly. Self-love stems from accepting yourself. There’s only one you in the world and everything about you is unique.

Once you come to terms with yourself, only then will making yourself a better man become easier. Give yourself a compliment, do something that makes you feel good, like changing your hairdo or buying that jacket you’ve always wanted. There are things every man should own, browse some lists and see what strikes a chord with your new journey of self-improvement. And make sure to be around people who accept you for who you are, not what they want you to be.

Consider Getting a Broader Education

image

When you first attended college, you may have felt it was stiff, boring and you just wanted it over with. Or maybe you actually enjoyed your time in college and deepening your knowledge of your preferred career field. Either way, education is one of the most important aspects of a man’s life. Going back to college to increase your knowledge further is a fantastic way to improve yourself.

You can aim to get a brand-new degree in another field that interests you or you can obtain a graduate’s degree to open new opportunities in your current career. Better education means a better job. And a better job usually means a bigger paycheck. Granted, college isn’t free, unfortunately. You still need to pay for it just like you did for your undergraduate’s degree. A great way to pay for your graduate degree is to get a student loan through a private lender. Thanks to their reduced rates, private lenders make paying for a college education easy as it should be.

Stay True to Your Word

image

Do you know how people use the phrase involving a man of their word? That’s because it signifies a man who is honest and doesn’t break promises. Not to their friends, their family and especially not to themselves. Being a man of your word shows that you’re able to be trusted and people will respect you more. This is an example of one of many ways to be accountable to both yourself and the people you care about. In both your personal and professional life accountability and staying true to your word go hand in hand.

Control Your Emotions

image

One of the most impactful ways of self-improvement is learning how to control your emotions. Specifically, negative ones such as anger, hate and envy. Mastering these emotions will make you a better person as a whole and not just as a man. It may be tempting to lash out in anger or express constant disdain for someone who seems better than you, but it’s not worth wasting mental and emotional energy. It also ends up making you feel worse than before. Instead of worrying about others and their life, use the time and energy on yourself.

REEF introduces its classy Paipo sandals for sustainable summer footwear

You’re probably reading this right now by the pool or at the beach. Summer is still here and excursions, cool beverages, and barbecues are a must. Of course, we recommend that you take all the necessary precautions due to the pandemic, but we encourage you to enjoy it. Sandals are the footwear of choice and REEF is introducing its most premium yet – the Paipo.

At $150, this is not your average flip-flop and there’s a pretty awesome reason behind it. Perhaps in an effort to explore more sustainable alternatives REEF finds they can try to go with different materials instead. It’s not the first to do as Adidas, Reebok, and Converse debuted green initiatives in the past.

Instead of upcycling and recycling, REEF goes for the biodegradable option. The last time we talked about a classy pair of sandals from the Carlsbad, California-based group was the Spackler. Although it also uses leather in the construction, the rest of its parts are mostly synthetic.

The Paipo, on the other hand, goes classy all the way. Give your feet the luxe treatment with its full-grain leather surfaces. The company is sourcing it from tanneries rated silver and gold by the Leather Working Group. The strap features the brand’s emblem in metal hardware, while the rest of the details are from laser etching.

What follows is the addition of real wood elements that wrap around the heel of the sandals. For sophisticated comfort, REEF injects renewable bio-based Braskem EVA foam into the footbed. You can get the Paipo in black or brown and feel good about its minimal impact on the environment. Too bad the bottle opener feature is not included.

Buy – $150

Want to Rent a Camper Van? Here’s How You Can

If there was ever a year to make the idea of #vanlife sound appealing, it was 2020. COVID-19 sparked a mighty upswell in socially distanced activities like hiking and camping, while simultaneously making mass transit and staying in hotels seem about as appealing as chugging gasoline. Practically speaking, camper vans solve all of the above problems; add in an emotional appeal that stretches from Kerouac to Instagram, and it’s not surprising that interest in the category spiked last year (and stays strong today).

Yet as much as we might often dream about wandering across the land in a tastefully designed van, the actual owning of one isn’t quite as sexy. Luckily, there’s a way to have your cake and eat it too, to an extent: rent a camper van.

Why rent a camper van?

Well, basically, because buying one is a big commitment. A camper van may not be as expensive as a full-fledged RV or a camping trailer and a full-size pickup truck or towing-capable SUV, but you’re still looking at a significant outlay of cash to buy and build a brand-new camper van. (For example: Seattle-based Peace Vans, which Mercedes-Benz USA trusts to build their Getaway van, starts the pricing for its full camper vans at $105,000.)

And sure, while you certainly can use a camper van as your daily driver when you’re not recreating out of it, it’s less than ideal for most of us; while great in nature, camper vans tend to be fairly unwieldy in urban parking situations, not nearly as efficient as sedans or crossovers, and not very much fun to drive.

Renting a camper van also makes a lot of sense if you’re planning a trip that’s a long way from home. Sure, having your lodging double as a mode of transportation means it’s possible to drive from, say, Massachusetts to the Grand Canyon in a pinch — but if you only have a limited amount of time off, it likely makes far more sense to fly if your destination is more than a day’s drive away.

Different types of camper van rentals

If you’re looking to rent a camper van for a vacation, there are two very broad approaches to looking for a company to hook you up.

First, you can check out national companies, which offer a wide swath of vehicles in markets all around the country. Often times, however, these are peer-to-peer sharing rentals – think AirBnB, not Hertz — which some people might be less comfortable with.

The other way to look for camper van rentals is based on the region you’re headed. Perhaps not surprisingly, certain areas that are known as outdoor adventure destinations often have more local options, so it’s worth exploring wherever you’re heading for the choices there, as well.
