2022 Ford GT Heritage Edition: Ending The Model’s Production Run With A Bang

As Ford is nearing the final legs of production for the legendary GT willing buyers are in for a treat. By 2022, the Blue Oval will no longer accept new orders for the sleek supercar. Before that happens though, you now have a chance to own what is perhaps the ultimate version of the vehicle. This is the GT Heritage Edition, and it is a mechanical beauty.

Gearheads are pointing out that Ford is building this trim as a tribute to the prototype of the GT. Just like the 1964 supercar, this modern ride boasts a two-tone paint job of Wimbledon White with Antimatter Blue. Depending on the viewing angle you can easily miss the single racing tripe.

It starts from where the roof meets the windshield and runs all the way down the back. Of course, this is a visual reminder of Ford’s rich motorsports legacy that ships with every GT Heritage Edition. As for the other sections such as the engine louvers, side mirror stalks, side sills, front splitter, and rear diffuser, these are all in exposed carbon fiber in a glossy finish.

Meanwhile, the 20-inch carbon fiber wheels have a matching Antimatter Blue coat as well. Powering this beautiful beast is a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 visible under the Gorilla Glass engine cover. This is mated to a 7-speed DCT automatic transmission. The output should be around 660 horsepower with 550 lb-ft of torque.

As for the interior, the cabin of the Ford GT Heritage Edition is oozing with luxe charisma. Black leather and Alcantara upholstery wrap most of the surfaces. For contrast, there’s Lightspeed Blue Alcantara on the seats as well as silver stitching. Production of the supercar begins early next year.

Razer Adds Chroma RGB Lighting To The 2021 Hammerhead True Wireless Pro

Razer prolific use of RGB lighting on almost all of its products has been the subject of jokes among the gaming community. In fact, the feature is what fans look for each time the company launches something new. After giving the Hammerhead earphones the TWS treatment, the brand if finally releasing a model with its Chroma technology.

Back when it entered the smartphone market in 2017, many pointed out a missed opportunity when the device shipped without a backlit triple snake logo. Eager to please its legion of followers, the second-generation handset was packing RGB lighting.

History repeats itself once more as we check out the 2021 version of the Hammerhead True Wireless Pro. The latest pair still retains the stem which the tech industry refers to as an attempt to copy the silhouette of the Apple AirPods. Still, it’s just a minor gripe if you look at the bigger picture.

As we were hinting before, the iconic serpent emblem is now flashier than before. With Razer’s Chroma RGB system built in, users can personalize their Hammerhead True Wireless Pro with up to 16.8 million colors to choose from. Tweak the settings for different lighting effects to stand out from the crowd.

Hybrid active noise canceling with THX high-fidelity acoustic enhancements give you an immersive listening experience. To help during long listening sessions, Razer includes three SecureSeal and three SmoothComfort silicone tips. There’s also a pair of Comply foam tips for optimal comfort.

The Activate Gaming Mode setting prevents latency issues, so game audio matches the action on screen. The Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro promises a 20-hour battery life depending on settings and usage patterns.

The 2022 Lincoln Navigator Is Refreshed — and, Somehow, Even Fancier

For the 2022 model year, Lincoln is refreshing its flagship Navigator SUV — going so far as to describe the changes as “elevating first-class travel.” In English: the updated Navigator packs some cool tech upgrades, gets even fancier ‚ and becomes better-suited to compete with Cadillac’s brand new Escalade.

The Lincoln Navigator is getting ActiveGlide — also known as BlueCruise if you’re driving a Ford. The technology sounds like Gillette’s new lubricated razor, but it’s actually a Level 2 self-driving system offering hands-free functionality on more than 130,000 miles of mapped highways. ActiveGlide will compete with GM’s Super Cruise offered on the Escalade. It will be available on the upper Reserve and Black Label trims, and it will be free for three years…before becoming a subscription service.

Lincoln is also giving the Navigator some appearance upgrades for 2022. It receives a new grille and front fascia for a “dynamic presence.” Animated rear LED lights now greet the driver as they arrive and bid them farewell as they leave. The Black Label trim now offers two additional interior themes — Central Park and Invitation — which join Yacht Club, Destination and Chalet. The Black Label now offers exclusive Manhattan Green Metallic paint, as well.

The Navigator’s 30-way adjustable perfect position seats are getting an upgraded massage system. (Truth be told, our one complaint about the 2021 Navigator was that the massaging seats could have been a bit more penetrating.) Heated and ventilated seats now come standard for the second row, with optional massaging seats there too. And, of course, you still get alerted by unique symphonic chimes curated by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

Ford’s partnership with Amazon also pays dividends in the Navigator through cloud connectivity, wireless upgrades, a hands-free experience with Amazon Alexa and integrated Amazon Fire TV to let children pick up Luca where they left off.

Lincoln says the 2022 model year Navigators will arrive at dealers in early 2022. No word yet on how much it will cost. The current model starts at $76,705 before destination charges.

Pagani Unveils The Pacchetto Tempesta Version Of The Huayra BC To Mark A Milestone

Early last week, Pagani already teasing the public with a commemorative machine. Now that Monterey Car Week 2021 is over, the curtains are open to reveal what the hype is all about. The Huayra BC Pacchetto Tempesta finally makes its debut and the specs it comes with are jaw-dropping.

The new supercar is a powerful tribute to the Italian marque’s Zonda successor. They are marking the 10th anniversary of its original’s launch with a souped-up take on the Benny Caiola (BC) variant. The exclusive Huayra had a production run of only 20 examples.

For those wondering, he was an entrepreneur with a huge collection of exotic cars. Now that Pagani is celebrating its own milestone, the Huayra BC Pacchetto Tempesta is packing even more upgrades. Starting with the 6.0-liter Mercedes-AMG twin-turbo V12 engine, we’re looking at an impressive bump.

Pagani is pushing the supercar to its absolute limit and ending up with 815 horsepower and 811 lb-ft of torque. For comparison, it was previously rated at 791 horsepower with 775 lb-ft of torque. It also receives a new exhaust system in a four and two arrangement to produce a deafening roar.

This matches the numbers of the track-only Pagani Imola hypercar wherein only five examples exist. With its enhanced powertrain, the carmaker equips the supercar with a new suspension system. Drivers can likewise engage a Soft Driving mode which makes for a smoother ride.

Other notable changes include the aero and air intakes. Pagani says the Huayra BC Pacchetto Tempesta will also sport a revamped interior. For now, available images only show us the exterior, but clients will likely go for a bespoke setup anyway.

Camper Van Fans Take Heed: Ford’s Raptor-Style Transit Van Could Come to America

Ford unveiled the Transit Trail in 2020. It offers off-roading upgrades such as Ford’s Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system with terrain modes and a mechanical limited-slip differential for better traction. It also looks the part, with SUV-like fender flares, body-cladding and a very F-150 Raptor-like “FORD” black grille.

The Transit Trail is a great option as the base for a custom camper van (or for the Amazon driver who wants to go full send on some back roads). It’s not quite a Ford Transit Raptor, but it’s as close to one as Ford is ever likely to sell.

The one downside of the Transit Trail is that it isn’t sold in America; Ford designed it for the European market. But that may change. Ford doesn’t comment on future productions, but according to Motor Trend, Ford has patented the Transit Trail design in the United States — which seems like a sign they are at least strongly considering a stateside Transit Trail.

Adding the Transit Trail for U.S. buyers would line up with what Ford has been doing elsewhere in the lineup. Ford has been adding similarly cool off-road trims — like the Explorer Timberline — to not primarily-off-road-focused vehicles. Ford has also been targeting the booming camper van market with the Transit, introducing “Adventure Prep” and “RV Prep” packages as well as new color and wheel options.

Having access to the Transit Trail would presumably be popular with custom off-road camper van builders. The Mercedes Sprinter 4×4 has been their preferred choice, with builders like Storyteller Overland also branching out to the AWD Transit. But a more capable off-pavement-going Transit with access to Ford’s massive service network could provide a really compelling option for a base vehicle.

Chanel Monsieur Superleggera Edition: An Elegant Automotive-Inspired Timepiece

Chanel is a French luxury label that many of us somehow associate with fragrances. This means we have most likely overlooked the fact that they have more to offer. Thankfully, we did not miss out on the Monsieur Superleggera Edition announcement. We almost forgot the brand also builds striking timepieces with unique elements.

After some digging around, we’re thinking this is a spiritual successor to the 2005 J12 Superleggera. Only this time, it’s now under Chanel’s Monsieur collection of fine watches. As the name suggests, the fashion house is going for an automotive theme which it executes with subdued elegance.

What makes this model stand out are the complications used by the Monsieur Superleggera Edition. The timekeeping layout may be similar to the rest of the catalog, but the presentation is unique. Let’s start off with the 42-mm black ceramic case which is accompanied by a steel bezel, caseback, and crown.

Sapphire crystals on both ends give it superior protection and visibility. You can view the Chanel Calibre 1 manual movement which boasts a 72-hour power reserve from the underside. Next up is the dial which resembles the instrument panel of a vehicle.

It may look complex at first but reading the time on the Monsieur Superleggera Edition is actually quite simple. The jumping hours window sits at 6 o’clock while the retrograde minute indicator stands right above. Guilloche machine engravings designate these two sections of interest.

The seconds reside within the sub-dial in the middle. Chanel then gives the Monsieur Superleggera Edition a sporty nylon strap adorned with black calfskin leather at the edges and a vibrant crimson inner lining. Dominated by darker tones, it gives the timepiece a stealthy and sexy profile.

This Custom Toyota Tacoma Truck Camper Rig Is Cool as It Gets

You may not be familiar with them, but he Australian company Redarc Electronics has been building and powering off-the-grid camper rigs for more than 40 years. Now, they’re showing off their first North American build — which just might be, perhaps, the ultimate Toyota Tacoma-based camper.

Redarc used the Tacoma TRD Off-Road with the 3.5-liter V6, double cab and short bed as the base truck. Modifications for escaping civilization include an ICON 1.5-inch Add-a-Leaf suspension kit, Falken Wildpeak AT3 tires and a Warn VR10S winch.

Most Americans would probably fit a truck camper into the stock bed, preserving that ever-important Tacoma resale value — but Redarc swapped out the stock bed for an Aussie-style custom flatbed tray canopy. The camper rig adds an Alu-Cab Gen 3.1 expedition rooftop tent and shadow awning, a Front Runner Roof Rack, Rigid LED pods and a Rigid light bar. The setup also offers a 30-liter water tank, an ARB Zero Fridge and an ARB dual air compressor.

tech roundup

Courtesy

A key component is Redarc’s impressive power setup. The rig uses Redarc’s Manager 30 battery management system with two 120-Ah lithium-ion batteries that can work with the vehicle alternator, shore power or auxiliary solar power. Users can monitor and manage the power and water usage via RedVision displays on either side of the canopy or a smartphone app. Redarc also added a second dual battery system under the hood for powering auxiliary lighting and jump-starting the Tacoma on demand.

Redarc will debut its Tacoma build at Overland Expo Mountain West later this August. The rig will also appear at Overland Expo West, Overland Expo East and SEMA 2021 later this year. Sadly, this seems to be a one-off showcase for Redarc’s suite of power solutions. There’s no mention of any plans to start producing custom Tacoma rigs for American customers…but we’ll keep dreaming.

Want an Automatic Titanium Dive Watch for Just $500? Check Out This New Microbrand

Much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the watch brand startup scene is like an ever-expanding firmament unto itself. With new entrants popping up constantly, it’s fun to discover new brands and follow your favorites as many aim to offer unique visions and strong values. One new such company that just caught our eye: United Kingdom-based Arken, which just debuting with a titanium dive watch called the Instrumentum — a watch that checks a lot of the right boxes for just $500.

Titanium is a major selling point here, as this premium material can be great for watches — most notably for its lightness — and the Instrumentum further ups its proposition with a fully titanium bracelet. Titanium also has its own type of luster that can be attractive, but if not treated it forms an oxide layer which can itself get scratches (meaning the metal looks scratched), and it’s not clear if Arken is using any such treatment. As a tool watch, as the Instrumentum is clearly intended, a scratched up look might not be a big deal.

While the titanium construction is notable alone, the other specs and design also seem solid, as well. This is a dive watch with 300m of water-resistance, Super-LumiNova-coated hands and indices — and even a titanium diver’s extension clasp for the bracelet. Many microbrands choose Miyota automatic movements to power their watches, and Arken went with one of the higher-end ones: the solid Miyota 9015. (The brand confusingly calls it a “high-beat” movement, which usually refers to a movement operating at a higher frequency than the 9015’s typical 4Hz.)

watch

Courtesy

The Instrumentum’s wide bezel with its jagged, grippy edge suggests an aggressive stance, but a diameter of 40mm should temper and balance its presence visually and on the wrist. Titanium will make it even more easy-wearing, of course. Other design elements like the teardrop-shaped indices and somewhat funky (perhaps Vacheron Constantin Overseas-inspired) bracelet might polarize tastes, but don’t feel over-the-top.

Arken is still in its early stages, so you’ll have to sign up for the email to be alerted when the watch will be available for pre-order. The initial batch will be limited to 300 examples— but for $500, it seems like an interesting proposition.

The New Balance Niobium Concept 2 Can Switch Between A Trail-Ready Sandal Or Mule

When you’re ideal summer activity is hitting the trails and taking a dip in remote spots away from the crowd, then read on. No matter how difficult it is to travel right now due to the pandemic, the spirit of adventure lives on. New Balance wants to equip you for the journey with its Niobium Concept 2.

With the controversy surrounding wearing sandals with socks, we’re not planning on angering the fashion critics around us. New Balance probably knows it too and thus creates a hybrid footwear that straddles the fine line between shoe, sandal, and something else.

The Niobium Concept 2 may look like your average trail-ready sneaker, but it’s apparently not. New Balance even refers to it as a sandal in the product description. We’re not going to debate with the manufacturer because these sandals can transform into mules in a jiffy.

Moreover, you can quickly detach the heel strap via the Velcro closures on each side. Still, we recommend you keep these on when trekking over rough terrain. The breathable mesh and suede leather upper keep the Niobium Concept 2 snug yet comfortable.

For the best fit, just adjust the buckle fasteners. It’s outdoor-ready thanks to the Fresh Foam Hierro midsole with Vibram outsole. New Balance likewise adds reflective accents on the heels and toes to aid in low-light visibility.

New Balance really did a great job with the design here. There are two colorways available for the Niobium Concept 2. We prefer the darker tones on the Pigment with natural indigo variant, but the Incense with chocolate brown is just as stylish. As of this writing, the Snow Peak version is no longer in stock.

The Monastero Arx Vivendi Is A Timeless Inner Sanctum For The Body and Soul

Sometimes we need to slow down and breathe, take a moment to commune with ourselves in the quietest place possible. Especially when it comes to relieving ourselves of stress, a nice respite away from the city helps. The Monastero Arx Vivendi in Italy provides just that, a place to soothe our body and soul.

Italian studio Network of Architecture (NOA) turned this 17th-century monastery into a place of refuge and comfort, for guests looking for some downtime. Situated on the northern tip of Lake Garda, it is now a 40-bedroom hotel with a series of glazed spa rooms and gardens.

But most of the historical interiors of the Monastero Arx Vivendi remain intact. This includes the seven-meter-high wall that surrounds the entire complex. It also retained the long corridors and the vaulted ceilings that provide the place its majestic draw. The modern additions, on the other hand, include a wellness area that incorporates 500 square meters of relaxation and treatments rooms, saunas, and steam baths. There is also a swimming pool and lush gardens.

Divided into three levels, the ground floor comprises the bar and kitchen, the breakfast room, the reception, and the common areas. Meanwhile, on the first floor are the bedrooms and bathrooms. Lastly, on the second floor is a large loft area and some of the other guestrooms. Architect Francesco Padovan says the Monastero Arx Vivendi is a “refuge that takes you back in time.” It is “closely centered around the history and the particular features” of the monastery. It is a timeless inner sanctum where guests can find blissful refuge.

Jetpack Aviation Is Targeting A 2023 Release For Its Speeder Flying Motorcycle

In 2019, Jetpack Aviation stunned the automotive industry with its take on the future of transportation. While everyone else was talking about flying cars, the aptly named company was focusing on flying motorcycles instead. What most of us thought was just a concept proposal is apparently heading for production soon. The Speeder will ship out to buyers in 2023.

Now that’s a bold claim considering regulations regarding personal aircraft are still non-existent at the moment. Nonetheless, this is exciting news for people who have held on to their sci-fi fantasies for the longest time. According to the group, they plan to build multiple models to cater to various markets.

Those who are already planning to recreate the forest chase scene from Star Wars should reserve their units ASAP. For now, Jetpack Aviation says it will only manufacture 20 for recreational use. The rest of the fleet and all future Speeders will be for military and commercial markets.

Starting with the basic trim, we’re looking at a machine that weighs 231 lbs. Maximum thrust is rated at 705 lbf with an estimated operation time of 10 to 22 minutes. As for the other variant, it boasts a more powerful package that pushes all those numbers beyond the regular Speeder.

What they share in common are a maximum operating ceiling at 15,000 ft and a top speed of 150 mph. Jetpack Aviation is also equipping all Speeders with a bespoke fully autonomous driving system. Of course, human pilots can always switch to manual control in certain situations. We can’t wait to see how this badass ride actually performs and handles.
