Sonos One vs Sonos Era 100: Should You Upgrade?

One quick caveat: If you have an Era 100 grouped with other Sonos speakers and you switch it to Bluetooth mode, it will then become ungrouped from your other Sonos speakers. You can play Bluetooth audio to the Era 100 and regroup with your other Sonos speakers — via the Sonos app — but it is an extra step.

Here’s the thing: As a longtime Sonos speaker owner, I’m not sure I’d really ever use this built-in Bluetooth connectivity. It’s not as easy, secure or high-resolution as streaming over Wi-Fi, and in all honesty, I’m not sure I’d ever have a friend come over, see the Era 100 and think “I’m going to hijack the music.” I’d probably share my Wi-Fi go-codes or just play the music they wanted from my own device. Point being, I just don’t think it’s a big reason to buy the Era 100 over the One (or One SL).

The Era 100 is more Android-friendly …

Sonos Era 100 vs One speakers
Sonos offers two Trueplay tuning options. The “Advanced Tuning” is the traditional option that only iPhones and iPads support. Android users have a new “Quick tuning” option, which uses the Era 100’s built-in mics.
Photo by Tucker Bowe for Gear Patrol

The Era 100 and the Era 300 support a type of Trueplay that Android devices can use. It’s called “Quick Tune” and it uses the Era 100’s (or Era 300’s) built-in microphones to get a sense of its surroundings; then it’s able to do some magic and adjust its sound accordingly.

As an iPhone user, I’ve never really had this issue — as iPhones (and iPads) have supported Sonos’s TruePlay for years — but it’s been a hindrance for Android users because, well, they knew that if they bought Sonos speakers, they wouldn’t sound as great as they could. But the new Era speakers are able to mend that wound.

It should be noted that Trueplay on iPhone or iPad is now called “Advanced Tuning,” and it is still able to tune Sonos speakers better than Quick Tune on Android. The reason is that Advanced Tuning uses the built-in mics of your iPhone (or iPad) and has you manually wave the device all around the room so it’s able to get an even more accurate virtual map of the room. Since Quick Tune relies on the stationary mics in the Era 100 speaker, it’s not quite able to paint the same virtual map of the room.

This EDC Knife’s Unique Blade and Handle Offer More Than You’d Expect for the Price

It’s worth noting that not all eight Guardian options come with this style of G10. Two versions, the purple colorway with a black blade and the jade colorway with a silver blade, have more standard textured G10 scales.

Closeup of Bestechman Guardian knife blade
The Bestechman Guardian has one of the most unusual yet extremely useful blade shapes I’ve ever seen.
Bestechman

Bizarro blade

While the unique G10 scales are a highlight, they’re hardly the only one. On the other side of the pivot, the Guardian’s 3.209-inch D2 steel blade is also a show stopper. The difference here, however, is its unconventional shape.

The overall shape, especially the belly, looks like a Wharncliffe — noteworthy for its long, relatively straight cutting edge. But as you get closer to the tip, you’ll notice a steep, sloping drop-off — more like a hunting-friendly clip point.

I’ve not seen a blade shaped like this before, and now I’m scratching my head as to why. The clip point gives it a more prominent piercing edge without sacrificing the slicing ability of the Wharncliffe belly.

Audioengine A2 Plus 2025Audioengine

Audioengine A2+ (2025)

The Audioengine A2+ Wireless have been among the best and most popular desktop speakers for years. The versatile speakers combine excellent sound and wireless streaming capabilities, all at a relatively affordable price. The 2025 editions of these compact speakers (which have dropped the “Wireless” name) are identical to their predecessors but add the ability to play 24-bit audio and a USB-C input, making it easier to connect to today’s laptops and desktops.

Nomad Universal Cable for Apple WatchNomad

Nomad Universal Cable for Apple Watch

The Nomad Universal Cable for Apple Watch is a first-of-a-kind USB-C to USB-C charging cable with an integrated puck for wirelessly fast charging an Apple Watch (Series 7 or later). It can distribute up to 100 watts of power and charge two devices simultaneously.

Audio-Technica ATH-R70xa headphonesAudio-Technica

Audio-Technica R-Series (2025)

Audio-Technica has updated its R-Series of open-back headphones designed for musicians, sound engineers and other audio professionals. The Japanese audio brand has introduced the flagship ATH-R70xa, which are “enhanced” versions of its 2015-released ATH-R70x, as well as two more affordable models, the midrange ATH-R50x and entry-level ATH-R30x.

OM System OM-3 Mirrorless CameraOM System

OM System OM-3

The OM System OM-3 is a Micro Four Thirds mirrorless camera designed to resemble the Olympus OM-1, a beloved film camera from the early 1970s. But on the inside, it has the same 20.37-megapixel stacked BSI sensor as the 2024-released OM-1 Mark II, as well as many of the same shooting capabilities and computational photography modes. Aside from its vintage looks, the main difference is that the OM-3 has a smaller body and is more affordable than the $2,400 OM-1 Mark II.

Leica Lux Grip for iPhoneLeica

Leica Lux Grip

The Leica Lux Grip is a high-end MagSafe-compatible camera grip that essentially turns your iPhone into a Leica camera. It has a two-stage shutter release, a control dial for adjusting settings and two customizable buttons. And it works with Leica’s iPhone app, the Leica Lux, giving users access to lens simulations and 35mm film filters so that their iPhone photos look more Leica-esque, too. The downside is that it doesn’t work with any other camera app, including your iPhone’s default one, and it’s significantly more expensive than other MagSafe-compatible camera grips on the market.

CalDigit Element 5 HubCalDigit

CalDigit Element 5 Hub

The CalDigit Element 5 Hub is the company’s first Thunderbolt 5-enabled hub. It has nine total ports — including six USB-C (four of which support Thunderbolt 5) and three USB-A — that can distribute up to 90 watts of power. When paired with a Mac, it can support up to dual 60K (at 60Hz) or dual 4K (at 240Hz) external displays. Additionally, that Element 5 Hub is notably more compact than other Thunderbolt 5-enabled hubs.

Lenco LBT-345WA turntableLenco

Lenco LBT-345WA

The Lenco LBT-345WA is the Swiss audio maker’s belt-drive turntable. It has a traditional look and features high-end components, including a custom carbon fiber tonearm and an Ortofon 2M Red cartridge. It has a built-in switchable phono preamplifier, allowing it to easily connect to powered speakers. And with support for Bluetooth, it can stream vinyl to your wireless speakers or headphones. As of February 2025, it’s now available in the US.

BioLite Dash 450 HeadlampBioLite

BioLite Dash 450 Headlamp

BioLite Dash 450 is the company’s slimmest and lightest rechargeable headlamp to date — and its first specifically designed for runners. It features a snug “no-bounce” fit, along with a reflective band and a rear red light for added visibility. The headlamp gets its name for its 450-lumen front light that promises to beam light up to 90 meters ahead of you. It has a three-hour battery (when on the highest brightness setting) and recharges via USB-C.

Mixx Revival 55 suitcase turntableMixx

Mixx Revival 55

The Mixx Revival 55 is a suitcase-style record player (similar to the ones made popular by Victrola) designed as an easy and affordable way to play vinyl records. It’s a true all-in-one turntable with built-in speakers, although it features a line-level output for connecting to a more extensive audio system or set of powered speakers. It supports Bluetooth, so you can stream music to it when not playing vinyl. And despite its portable design, it lacks a built-in battery and needs to be connected to power.

January is finally over, and the first big EDC drops and events of the year are fading into the rearview. Despite that, our favorite knifemaking brands haven’t even taken a breather.

Interesting and innovative new EDC knives and multi-tools continue dropping like winter snow. Furthermore, a few revisited and redesigned classics have also been launched. This roundup will update you on everything we’ve encountered over the last week.

To catch up on other notable knives and multi-tools, check out our rolling roundup of the best new knives and EDC releases of 2025.

Vero Engineering 3.3 knife on gray backgroundVero Engineering

Vero Engineering Lux 3.3

A smaller, more EDC-friendly take on the brand’s Lux 3.8, this compact take on its award-winning sibling is just as gorgeous and minimalist. While the entry price is admittedly prohibitive, this knife has the materials and style to back it up (and then some).

tenable kryo embedTenable Knives

Tenable Kryo

Offering plenty of bang for your buck, the Tenable Kryo boasts a 3.58-inch drop-point blade made of 1428CN steel. Handle options range from G10 to micarta to anodized aluminum. All versions also feature a crossbar lock, multiple deployment methods and a reversible deep carry pocket clip.

lionsteel q4ttro embedLionsteel

Lionsteel Q4ttro

As the name suggests, this Italy-made knife can technically be deployed four ways: back flipper tab, front flipper, nail nick and “with two hands.” More exciting, however, are the ingredients, including a range of handle materials (from burlap micarta to Titanium 6AI4V with Fatcarbon inlays) and a 3.31-inch satin-finished drop-point blade made of everyone’s favorite super steel, CPM MagnaCut.

The James Brand Chapter 2 Rose Damasteel knife on gray backgroundThe James Brand

The James Brand The Chapter 2 Rose Damasteel

The Chapter is the EDC knife that started it all for The James Brand. Yet it keeps evolving, helping to keep it relevant even all these years later. This updated version features a gorgeous, high-end blade material, called Rose Damasteel, with a mesmerizing kaleidoscope-like pattern.

gerber lst mini embedGerber

Gerber LST Mini

This tiny successor to the classic LST boasts a 1.9-inch modified wharncliffe blade made of 440A stainless steel, a grippy glass-filled nylon handle and a grab tab lanyard for easy attachment to a keychain. With a lockback design like the original, the LST Mini measures 4.6 inches open and weighs 0.5 ounces.

Bestech Constellation knife on stone backgroundBestech

Bestech Constellation

Another unusual, beautiful, unique folding knife from Bestech, this flipper — which almost looks more like a fixed blade — boasts a MagnaCut steel blade mated to a titanium handle with carbon fiber, G10 or Micarta inlays and a sturdy sub-frame lock. It’s also available in four distinct versions, so you’re spoiled for choice if you want to snag this knife.

Kizer Tomb knife on gray backgroundKizer

Kizer Tomb

One of the most unique, macabre knives we’ve ever seen, this one comes courtesy of a collaboration with Bradley Diaz of Australia’s Evans Street Knives. But it’s not just drop-dead good looks; the Kizer Tomb is an affordable flipper with some reliable materials, like a Nitro-V blade and your choice of wood, Damascus-patterned G10, aluminum and semi-transparent PEI handle scales (which show off the literally skeletonized liners inside).

benchmade bailout embedBenchmade

Benchmade Bailout (537BK-06)

Thanks to the signature tanto blade shape, this Bailout retains its tough tactical identity while getting more EDC-friendly. Drawing inspiration from the most popular Bugout, it possesses textured, ultralight Ranger Green Grivory handle scales plus a Cerakote-treated, 3.38-inch CPM-S30V blade and an aluminum lanyard pommel (sans glass breaker).

leatherman rebar mossy slate embedLeatherman

Leatherman Two-Toned Rebar

Made primarily of 420HC and 440C stainless steel, this outdoor enthusiast’s dream deploys 17 essential tools including multiple pliers, wire cutters, knives and screwdrivers. Three two-toned handle colorways — Burnt Sienna, Mossy Slate and Heathered Cranberry — come courtesy of a Cerakote finish that boosts resistance to abrasion, wear, corrosion and chemicals.

CJRB Bowie Pyrite knife on gray backgroundCJRB

CJRB Bowie Pyrite

By combining the brand’s fan-favorite Pyrite knife with a Bowie-style clip-point blade (with its iconic fuller, no less), CJRB has managed to turn one of the most iconic fighting knives into an affordable, EDC-friendly option. Furthermore, there are six distinct versions of this knife (some with multiple colorways), so you can cater it to your personal style.

Kershaw Mini Iridium Reverse Tanto knife on gray backgroundKershaw

Kershaw Mini Iridium Reverse Tanto

The peak expression of Kershaw’s ever-popular Iridium knife, the reverse tanto edition now has a blade that’s exactly three inches long, making it the perfect length to skirt most blade length restrictions. While the knife is more legal and EDC-friendly than ever, it still boasts the same mechanisms and silhouette that made it so great in the first place.

boker plus collection 2025 knife embedBöker

Böker Plus Collection 2025

Residing comfortably at the top end of Böker’s offerings, this knife boasts a number of premium features, including a satin-finished 3.38-inch MagnaCut blade, a Marble Carbon handle and titanium bolsters, backspacer and clip. Deployed via nail nick or flipper, the blade is held in place with a titanium liner lock.

Spyderco PITS 2 Slipit knife on gray backgroundSpyderco

Spyderco PITS 2 Slipit

A reinvention of one of the knife world’s oldest, most time-tested mechanisms, this non-locking folder takes the classic slipjoint in an entirely new direction. Whereas other slipjoints rely on a separate, typically spine-mounted torsion bar, this skeletonized folder integrates torsion springs into the pivot itself, making for a novel, more refined take.

Civivi Elementum Slip Joint knife on gray backgroundCivivi

Civivi Elementum Slip Joint

A reimagining of the brand’s most popular, affordable EDC knife, this version is free of locking mechanisms and has a blade short enough to meet most regional restrictions. It’s a simple change that makes Civivi’s most approachable pocket knife even more legal to carry than ever before.

Gerber MiniSada on gray backgroundGerber

Gerber MiniSada

The latest Gerber release to feature the brand’s patented Pinch Plate — a device that makes frame lock flipper knives more ergonomic, safer and quicker — the MiniSada is both affordable and respectable in an EDC context. Its svelte drop-point blade is made from hard-working D2 steel and the handle is crafted from textured aluminum. This is a budget-friendly folder that can punch well above its weight class.

Spyderco Edgerati knife on gray backgroundSpyderco

Spyderco Edgerati

Heavily inspired by supercar design (specifically, Maserati’s legendary Birdcage), this is one of the most skeletonized knives Spyderco has ever made. While it weighs just 3.3 ounces, its trellised aluminum handle frame is exceptionally strong and still houses the brand’s legendary Compression Lock.

This Seiko Is the Most Hyper-Specific Tool Watch I’ve Ever Seen

Tool watches defining feature is that they are purpose-built. After all, the entire reason the genre exists is to help the wearer accomplish a specific task. That’s why we have tool watches created for divers, drivers, pilots, etc.

But what if a tool watch were so hyper-specific in its mission that it was created not for a singular occupation or activity but for one single person?

That’s what Seiko has dreamed up as part of its second-ever “Incredibly Specialized Watch Exhibition.” The event sees Seiko designers using their unrestrained imaginations to create the most radical designs they can come up with, unencumbered by practicality or manufacturing realities.

One of the most intriguing concepts to emerge from this year’s event was a tool watch designed for one specific person: Santa Claus.

If Santa Claus wore a watch, it might look like this.
Seiko

To All a Good Night

The Santa watch has several features that are optimized for one high-speed, high-stress, globe-trotting night of work for a jolly old elf.

Let’s take a look at the dial first, as it’s quite unusual. The timing scale effectively begins at the 7 o’clock index, marked “19” to denote 7 pm in a 24-hour format. Working our way around the dial, you’ll notice the military-time scale continues up to 6 am, which occupies the 6 o’clock index. Effectively, this means the watch only keeps time during the evening, nighttime and early morning hours — the exact window when Santa is plying his trade on December 24.

Gerber’s Patented Frame Lock Tech Is Making Its EDC Knives Safer, Faster and More Ergonomic

Usually, when an EDC brand launches a new technology — especially a patented one — there’s a lot of fanfare surrounding it. However, a knifemaker occasionally applies new apparatuses and mechanisms without so much as a squeak.

Interestingly, Gerber has recently done the latter. Five of its folding knives — most recently the Gerber MiniSada — have been quietly equipped with a new patented device called a Pinch Plate, making them quicker, safer and more ergonomic.

The MiniSada, a 7.2-inch flipper, is the latest Gerber knife to get the Pinch Plate treatment.
Gerber

A pinch is all you need

One of the prerequisites for Gerber’s patented Pinch Plate is that it must be applied to a frame lock knife. Luckily, frame locks are one of the most widely employed mechanisms in both Gerber’s catalog and the greater knifemaking world.

The device is affixed on the lock side of a knife’s handle between the pivot and pocket clip. It consists of a small piece of material that juts out over the lock and is attached to the lock-side scale via a pair of screws.

It’s a small addition, but it makes a big difference. Jutting out over the lock like a cantilevered platform, the Pinch Plate creates more surface area for your fingers to grip the handle without impeding the lock. This improves the ergonomics — no need to pinch the handle as gingerly — and makes opening the knife faster and safer.

This Is What Military-Issued T-Shirts Looked Like Before WWII

Buck Mason’s newest t-shirt design demonstrates that vintage military uniforms are an endless source of inspiration for menswear.

Technically speaking, all t-shirts are based on military-issue undershirts from the early 20th century. But Buck Mason referenced the specific knit of a US Army “skivvy tee” invented a hundred years ago for the brand’s new Sidewinder Rib Ringer Tee.

a man in a green buck mason t-shirt
The Sidewinder Rib Ringer Tee goes through a double dying process, creating a sun-faded texture.
Buck Mason

History of skivvy tees

The original design was made from a rib-knit wool that provided breathability and moisture regulation. It was meant to be a base layer to help soldiers regulate body temperature in a wide range of climates. When it got too hot, servicemen would remove their uniforms down to that base layer, and the modern t-shirt was born.

By WWII, the wool ribbed knit was replaced with cotton jersey fabrics, which remain the standard for tees to this day. While jersey knits have benefits like a soft texture and easy production, some features were lost when ribbed fabrics were abandoned.

Civivi Redesigns Its Most Popular, Affordable EDC Knife to Be More Universally Legal

While locks are not technically forbidden by US or state laws, there are local restrictions on some of them (usually when paired with other mechanisms, like automatic deployments). However, outside the US — as in the UK — laws are even stricter, sometimes banning locks entirely.

This knife sidesteps even the most restrictive bans on folding knives by ditching the flipper and lock and sporting a sub-three-inch blade.

Among the new knives are one with a “Blue Ocean” resin handle and the other with a carbon fiber handle and Damascus blade.
Civivi

Full house

Instead of launching just a single version of the Elementum Slip Joint, Civivi has introduced it in five distinct versions, so there’s something here for everyone. While they’re all 7.02 inches with a 2.96-inch blade, complete with a nail nick and slipjoint mechanism, they differ a bit in their materials.

The three most affordable versions are offered with 14C28N steel (slightly less tough than D2 but with better corrosion resistance) and your choice of G10, canvas Micarta or Guibortia wood. A fourth, also boasting 14C28N steel, has a “Blue Ocean” resin handle. The last, most upscale version has a carbon fiber handle and Damascus steel blade.

Nivada Just Made a Bold Update to Its Classic Dive Watch

Nivada Grenchen’s Antarctic Diver is now available with a vibrant green sunray dial.

Talking Points Nivada First Dive Watch Antarctic Diver in GreenNivada

Welcome to Talking Points, a series that looks at what makes certain products worth talking about, brought to you by Gear Patrol Studios.

The world of dive watches is filled with iconic models, but few strike the balance of heritage and innovation quite like Nivada Grenchen’s Antarctic Diver. Over the years, the brand has earned its place in watchmaking history, offering a collection that transcends both style and performance. With the debut of the Green Sunray brushed dial, the watchmaker is offering a new aesthetic while staying true to the model’s roots. This latest version with its modern updates stands as a testament to the brand’s ability to evolve while honoring its past.

Heritage Details with a Modern Twist

Nivada Grenchen’s Antarctic Diver was originally released in the 1950s as part of the “skindiver” trend that emerged after WWII, which are watches that were designed for snorkeling and swimming in shallow water.  Since then the model has become a flagship timepiece, offering slim and comfortable profiles and rugged water-resistant capabilities. Now the brand is adding a Green Sunray brushed dial to its collection, another compelling refresh to a classic style.

A Watch with Versatile Styling Options

The Green Sunray dial is the standout feature of the 2025 Antarctic Diver, providing a beautiful emerald-like glow that changes with the light. This new release offers a fresh take on the classic dive watch, with the addition of modern features like a SOPROD P024 automatic movement, 200 meters of water resistance, and 38 hours of power reserve. The watch’s 38mm diameter and 12.9mm thickness make it a comfortable choice for a variety of wrist sizes, while the 316L stainless steel case gives it a sleek yet durable finish.

True to its vintage roots, the new Antarctic Diver retains its signature design elements, including cream latte-colored patina on the indices and hands, the retro-inspired handwritten logo, and the penguin motif etched on the caseback — a nod to the collection’s namesake, evoking the extreme cold of the Antarctic. With a variety of strap options, from a classic steel bracelet to a Tropic rubber strap, the watch offers versatility for both casual and formal wear.

An Affordable Price and Great Value

The new Nivada Grenchen Antarctic Diver is a timepiece that balances the charm of vintage design with the needs of modern watch lovers. Its vibrant green dial is both a showstopper and a statement of style and versatility that’s capable of transitioning from an outdoor adventure to a more refined setting. The vintage elements feel timeless, and updated features like the sapphire crystal and automatic movement ensure it can keep up with today’s demands. At $995, it delivers solid value for a Swiss-made dive watch with rich history and modern functionality, making it an excellent choice for both collectors and newcomers.

This Affordable Pilot’s Watch Has No Business Being This Good

A Refined Flyer

This is a tool watch, but it’s quite a luxurious one. Jack Mason doesn’t claim to be a luxury brand, and I don’t know of any luxury pilot’s watches on the market for under two grand, but this comes awfully close to meeting the criteria.

The size is damn near perfect. While the original Pursuit was a 42mm watch, this new version clocks in at 39mm across, 11.8mm thick and just 46mm lug-to-lug. It’s nicely finished throughout, with fine brushing on the sides of the case, the top of the lugs and the bezel, and mirror polishing around the outside of the bezel and along the chamfered lugs. There’s more detail and refinement than you’d expect from this type of pilot’s watch, which I appreciate, as I sometimes can find this style of watch boring.

a jack mason pilots watch held by a leather gloved hand
The finishing on the Grade 2 titanium case and bracelet leaves little to be desired.
Photo by Johnny Brayson for Gear Patrol

The case and the Oyster-style bracelet are both made of Grade 2 titanium, which means the watch is exceptionally light. The big knock against Grade 2 titanium is that it scratches very easily, but Jack Mason has thought of that too. An anti-scratch coating boasting a hardness rating of 1,200 Vickers has been applied to the case and bracelet, and I noticed no scratches during my time with the watch.

The bracelet has a nice taper, which adds to the elegant vibes of the watch, and it’s equipped with the usual niceties seen on modern Jack Mason watches, namely quick-release spring bars and a micro-adjustable clasp. If I had one nit to pick, it would be that the clasp is a bit too long. I could do with a few millimeters less of adjustability in exchange for a smaller clasp, but I’m grasping at straws for things to complain about here.

Adidas Isn’t Done with Its Most Important Sneaker of the Modern Era

Contrary to popular belief, Boost wasn’t actually invented by Adidas. The technology was developed by the German chemicals manufacturer Badische Anilin & Soda-Fabrik (BASF), and it’s comprised of TPU pellets that set a new standard in cushioning, responsiveness and durability when Adidas brought it to market, first with the Energy Boost (2013) and later with the Ultraboost (2015).

adidas shoe
The Ultraboost was conceived as a running shoe, however, it bridged the gap between performance and lifestyle like no shoe before or since.
Adidas

Rumor has it that Nike passed on Boost before Adidas licensed its exclusive use. Their loss: the shoe quickly became one of the defining releases of the 21st century, bridging the gap between lifestyle and performance like no other shoe before or since.

Pricing and availability

The reissued Adidas Ultraboost will be available from February 11 for $180. In light of 10-year milestone, it comes with a special anniversary hangtag that should appeal to collectors.

Salomon’s Latest Trail-Running Innovation Rethinks the Super-Shoe Formula

But just as notable as which features can be found on the S/Lab Ultra Glide is the one that Salomon chose to leave out: a carbon-fiber plate, in effect putting all its eggs into the innovative outsole geometry.

What’s more, the shoe clocks in at a somewhat hefty 10.2 ounces (290 grams) for a US size 9, even with its streamlined mesh upper and QuickLace system.

Salomon running shoe
The S/Lab Ultra Glide weighs more than your typical super shoe, however, it’s more comfortable, too.
Salomon

All in all, the S/Lab Ultra Glide shares little in common with the rest the pack, trading speed and efficiency for comfort and resiliency as its means to an optimal performance at the tail end of an ultra.

So does it actually qualify as a super shoe? Perhaps a better question to ask is whether or not you’ll care 90 miles into Western States.

The Salomon S/Lab Ultra Glide is available now for $250.

This Underrated Affordable 1970s Racing Chronograph Has Never Been Better

As for the pusher at 10, it’s used to set the quick-date function at 6 o’clock. This is a pretty clever addition by Hamilton, as most other watches housing variations of the Chrono-Matic’s Valjoux 7753-based automatic movement require a special tool (or toothpick) to set the date.

Another quirk of the watch is its massive cushion-shaped case, which features wings on either side and radial brushing, giving the watch a ton of character. As Hamilton says, the case is “not for the faint-hearted,” as it measures 48mm across and 52mm from top to bottom (there are no lugs to speak of).

a closeup of a hamilton watch case
The case is thick at 16mm, but a good chunk of that comes from the massive retro-inspired top hat sapphire crystal.
Hamilton

The case is quite thick at 16mm, though that includes one of the tallest box-style sapphire crystals I’ve ever seen in my life, which also adds to the watch’s vintage quirkiness. Finally, there’s the strap, which is made of blue leather with perforations that show off an orange lining. It’s the perfect racing-inspired complement to the watch.

Pricing and Availability

It seems Hamilton has learned its lesson from the last Chrono-Matic 50 release, as the blue version is going to be a whole lot harder to come by. Rather than Hamilton releasing 1,972 examples, the new limited edition chronograph is limited to just 150 pieces.

Given the rarity, uniqueness and overall attractiveness of the watch, I suspect all 150 will be scooped up rather quickly, with the affordable price playing a factor here, too. The watch costs $2,545, which does make it the most expensive chronograph currently sold by Hamilton, but it’s still a bargain for a Swiss-made automatic chronograph with this movement and heritage-driven styling.

This Akira-Inspired Japanese Motorcycle Goes Full Godzilla Mode, Literally

The bike’s design is based on the lauded 1980s anime Akira. While the connection to Shotaro Kaneda’s bike in the movie is clear, the Ichiban is much more toned-down and realistic. Yet, it’s still unique and eye-catching — a boon for modern riders.

That’s probably because one of the other sources of influence is the minimalist concept of kanso, which is Japanese for “simplicity” or “purity” and is one of the seven principles of wabi-sabi. Even for an electric bike, the Ichiban is unusually sleek and cops some of the same retrofuturism we’ve seen in the car market recently.

A gorgeous, inspired design is one thing. However, a rideable bike with real specs is another. Thankfully, the brand has also unveiled some of that information.

Although the bike started as a concept, the brand has said it will be going into production.
Ichiban

Kaiju power

The brand is currently manufacturing the prototype, so much can change before a true production run, but Ichiban has unveiled some vital tidbits of information about its specifications.

The all-electric performance bike is said to have a 45kW power dual-motor system that can push it from 0-100 km (roughly 62 mph) in 3.5 seconds. It also has a battery that’s good for 250 km (a little over 155 miles) per charge and can juice up to 70 percent in only 30 minutes.

Dickies Just Modernized One of Its Most Iconic Workwear Styles

With a sleek silhouette and stretch in all the right places, the new Dickies’ 874 Pro is the work pant for the next generation of workers.

talking points dickies two man sitting togetherDickies

Welcome to Talking Points, a series that looks at what makes certain products worth talking about, brought to you by Gear Patrol Studios.

In the world of work wear, the Dickies 874 pant is an instantly recognizable icon. It’s one of those styles that’s remained largely unchanged for generations, winning favor with everyone from service industry workers to skaters.

Now, though, Dickies has evolved the classic style with a modern fit and materials designed for increased mobility to meet the needs of today’s worker. Here’s everything you need to know about the Dickies 874 Pro Work Pants.

man wearing dickies pants sitting at tableDickies

Tailored for the modern worker

On first glance, you’d be forgiven for mistaking the 874 Pro for its classic predecessor. That’s by design — the revamped pants retain the classic workwear look Dickies is known for with updated fit, materials, and features designed for increased softness and mobility.

The 874 Pro has longer belt loops compared to the original 874’s wide tunnel loops, a button instead of a hook closure, and the addition of a side zippered pocket.

The Pro Series pant maintains a regular fit but with a more tapered leg style for a sleek, contemporary silhouette. A flex waistband adds ease of mobility, while quick-drying fabrics keep you feeling fresh and comfortable through your day. Additionally, Dickies has upgraded its materials to offer a lasting look with stain release and fade resistance.

Lots of additional styles to choose from

The 874 Work Pant may be the most iconic style in this release, but it’s not the only silhouette to receive an overhaul.

The Dickies Pro Series also includes a double-knee work pant, a work short, and a cargo short, each of which benefits from the modernizations mentioned above like improved fit, added mobility, and refined feature sets.

An iconic style made modern

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, as a product-development philosophy, seems to be fading into obscurity in a world increasingly obsessed with newness. Dickies, perhaps more than most brands, has managed to buck that trend, focusing its efforts instead on incremental updates that make genuine improvements to its already great products.

The Pro Series is just the latest example of the brand’s commitment to continued evolution. Pleasing both the old guard and a new generation is no easy task, but we think Dickies may have achieved just that with this release full of hard-wearing, timeless staples.

Nike’s Most Reliable Sneaker of the 21st Century Only Gets Better with Age

Modern menswear pedigree

While the Killshot 2 has become a perennial favorite in Nike’s lifestyle lineup — not to mention the recipient of routine updates like this recent brown makeover — there was a time when the shoe was exclusive to menswear’s elite class.

The design was the result of a 2009 collaboration between Nike and J.Crew, who together revived the original Killshot from the 1970s, albeit with a leather upper in lieu of mesh (hence the “2” in its name).

Nike Killshot 2 sneakers
The Killshot 2 was initially released in 2009 as part of a collaboration between Nike and J.Crew.
Nike

Exclusive to the preppy American retailer, the first Killshot 2 release sold out in seconds. So did several subsequent drops. And before Nike knew it, it had a bona fide classic on its hands — one that has only become more relevant since the brand brought it in-house in 2019.

Just last year, for example, the Killshot 2 made a couple notable on-screen cameos: Josh O’Connor wore a pair the film Challengers, starring Zendaya, as did Adam Brody in the Netflix series Nobody Wants This.

Your Barbour Jacket Has a Hidden Feature You’re Probably Not Using

Barbour makes some of the most iconic jackets you can buy. Whether you own one or not, you’re probably familiar with some of the brand’s hallmarks that are present across many of its classic coats.

There’s the resilient waxed cotton finish, of course. The cozy corduroy collar. The traditional tartan lining. The rugged storm flap. Then there’s the prominent zipper.

Most front zippers found on Barbour jackets are made of brass and have an oversized round opening topped off with a Barbour logo. But if you’re only using this zipper as you would any other zipper on any other jacket, then you’re not getting the full potential out of your Barbour waxed jacket.

Barbour jackets are iconic, but they can also be full of surprises.

A Hidden Tool

Technically, Barbour’s oversized zippers with their large openings serve a functional purpose. The zippers have that large opening to make them easier to grip, especially when you’re wearing gloves. After all, Barbour’s roots are in the English countryside, where they have traditionally been worn for protection against the area’s cold temperatures and harsh elements.

But the unique shape of Barbour’s zippers perfectly lends itself to another use: a bottle opener.

Including Marshall’s reimagined amplifiers, LG’s next-gen TVs and Klipsch’s affordable soundbar.

As usual, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) kicked off the new year in a big way: tons of exciting new tech and gadgets were announced, from next-gen TVs to charging accessories galore. We also saw laptops with expanding screens, as well as transformative Dolby Atmos soundbars.

But the product release cycle keeps on keepin’ on, though actually keeping track of every new gadget and hi-fi release is a tall order for even the most dedicated enthusiast.

Catch up below and don’t forget to bookmark for later. This is a rolling list and routinely updated throughout the year.

TAD-ME1TX Bookshelf Speaker SystemTAD

TAD ME1TX Bookshelf Speaker System

TAD, or Technical Audio Devices, is a Japanese hi-fi maker known for its extremely high-end and expensive loudspeakers. To date, its smallest and most affordable speakers, the bookshelf-sized ME1, cost $15,000 — and the ME1TX is a new-and-improved version of the entry-level speakers. They feature updated drivers and a more rigid cabinet design and promise overall improvements over their 2016-released predecessor.

Audio Pro A28 Wireless Speakers (Walnut)

Released in 2022, the Audio Pro A28 is a bookshelf-sized active speaker system with numerous wired and wireless connections — you can use it as a sound system for your turntable or TV and stream music to it over Bluetooth Wi-Fi. To date, The Swedish audio company has only offered its A28 speaker system in two finishes, black or white, but now has now introduced a third walnut finish, which takes inspiration from vintage audio gear.

Amazfit Active 2 smartwatchAmazfit

Amazfit Active 2

Amazfit’s second-generation Active looks poised to become one of the best budget-friendly smartwatches. It’s packed with sensors and features for health, sleep, and fitness tracking. Its large circular OLED display can be brightened up to 2,000 nits. Its superb 10-day battery life is significantly better than that of any current Apple Watch.

Sonos Era 100 Pro (Pair)

The Sonos Era 100 Pro is the same wireless speaker as the Era 100, but it lacks a USB-C port for power and instead supports Power over Ethernet ( PoE) — it can get power and data through a single ethernet cable. This makes it easier for commercial setups, like in restaurants and offices, as it doesn’t require a separate power cable. The Era 100 Pro is not available for purchase by consumers; instead, businesses must contact an approved Sonos installer. They are also sold in pairs.

FiiO K17 headphone ampFiiO

FiiO K17 Headphone Amplifier

The FiiO K17 is a gorgeous headphone amplifier for headphone enthusiasts. It features the same high-quality dual-DAC combo (AK4191/AK4499EX) as the flagship $1,000 streamer, S15. It’s unique because it has a 3.93-inch touchscreen display and streaming capabilities. It supports high-resolution Bluetooth streaming with support for LDAC, aptX HD, and aptX Adaptive. It also plays audio from digital and analog sources, such as a turntable or CD player.

Onkyo Creator Series speakersOnkyo

Onkyo Creator Series

Onkyo has released a new Creator Series featuring two sets of affordable powered speaker systems, Creator GX10DB and Creator GX30ARC. Both support Bluetooth streaming and numerous wired connections — including a built-in MM phono preamp — and thus are designed for plug-and-play solutions for your desktop or a basic audio system. Aside from size and price, the main difference is that the larger GX30ARC has an HDMI-ARC connection, allowing them to work as TV speakers.

Samsung S95F OLED (2025)Samsung

Samsung S95F QD-OLED

The Samsung S95F is the company’s flagship OLED TV for 2025. Like its predecessor, the S95D, the S95F features the company’s matte anti-glare glass, making it one of the best OLEDs for brightly lit rooms. But the S95F has an even brighter OLED panel — in fact, Samsung claims it’s the “world’s brightest” OLED TV — and, thanks to an improved refresh rate that maxes out at 165Hz, it promises to be an even better TV for gamers.

Audio-Technica ATH-CKS50TW2 wireless earbudsAudio-Technica

Audio-Technica ATH-CKS50TW2

The Audio-Technica ATH-CKS50TW2 are midrange wireless earbuds decked out with premium features, including active noise-cancellation and transparency modes, wireless charging and pretty stellar battery life. However, the most interesting thing about them is that they are integrated with what the Audio-Technica calls Magnetic Switch” technology. This allows the earbuds to magnetically snap together and power off without the charging case. This allows you to leave the charging case at home and not worry about the earbuds dying or getting lost.

Technics EAH-AZ100 earbudsTechnics

Technics EAH-AZ100

To celebrate the Japanese hi-fi brand’s 60th anniversary, Technics released a new pair of flagship noise-canceling wireless earbuds. They’re the successor to the company’s previous flagship buds, the EAH-AZ80, but the 2025-released EAH-AZ100 have been redesigned (they’re smaller) and all-around improved. The most significant upgrade is that they sport the company’s proprietary fluid magnetic drivers, which promise to deliver a more accurate sound with an even wider soundstage.

Klipsch Flexus Core 100Klipsch

Klipsch Flexus Core 100

The Flexus Core 100 is an affordable 2.1-channel Dolby Atmos soundbar that leverages Klipsch’s loudspeaker technologies and Onkyo’s amplification (the same parent company owns the two). When it was initially released in 2024, Klipsch only offered it in black, but now it’s released a more premium version with a light grey and walnut finish.

Moft Invisible StandMoft

Moft Invisible Stand

Moft’s Invisible Stand is a new-and-improved version of the company’s 2019 Laptop Stand. Like its predecessor, the Invisible Stand has an origami-inspired design that folds flat and thus easily slips into a laptop sleeve. However, it differs in that it has a non-adhesive design with an anti-slip base. It also has a sturdier build with built-in magnets to support two viewing angles (for typing and drawing).

Anker 140W chargerAnker

Anker 140W Charger

The Anker 140W Charger is a 140-watt wall adapter capable of simultaneously charging four devices via its four USB ports (3x USB-C, USB-A). While Anker has offered several such wall adapters with a built-in screen that displays charging information, this model is among its smallest and most portable. Additionally, all four ports are located on the bottom (as opposed to the side), helping it stay balanced and more easily fit cables when located in tight spaces (like behind a desk or couch).

LG Ultrafine 6K MonitorLG

LG Ultrafine 6K Monitor (32U990A)

The newest addition to LG’s beloved line of Ultrafine monitors looks like a bonafide rival (and likely significantly more affordable option) to Apple’s Pro Display XDR. Admittedly, details about this 32-inch monitor are pretty scarce at the time of writing, but it claims to be the world’s first 6K display that supports Thunderbolt 5 (making it an ideal partner for Apple’s newest Macs with M4 Pro chips). It also features a Nano IPS Black panel, helping it deliver a picture with excellent contrast and color accuracy.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25Samsung

Samsung Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25 Ultra

Samsung’s 2025 lineup of Galaxy smartphones consists of three models. The 6.2-inch Galaxy S25 and 7.7-inch Galaxy S25+ are largely the same aside from size, featuring the same designs, displays and cameras as last year’s Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+. The big upgrades being that they pack next-gen Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processors and more advanced AI features. The flagship Galaxy S25 Ultra is mostly the same as its predecessor, too, but has a slightly bigger screen with curved edges. It features the same processor and AI upgrades as its smaller siblings.

The Windows laptop is powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 Series 2 processor and has 32GB of RAM and 1TB SSD. It was revealed in 2023 as a concept design, but it’s finally coming to market in 2025.

Marshall reimagined some of its most iconic guitar amplifiers in two new series. The Modified Series consists of two amps, the JCM800 Modified and 1959 Modified, which are factory-modified versions of its classic JCM800 and 1959 amplifiers. For years, Marshall has modified its vintage amps for artists, but this is their first time making them for consumers. And the Studio 900 Series consists of the Studio 900 Head and Studio 900 Combo, which are smaller, “more practical” versions of its JCM900 amplifier, which was released in the 90s and used by some of the most popular rock, punk and metal bands of that era.

Acoustic Energy 300 Series Loudspeakers (2025)

The British loudspeaker maker has revamped its mid-range 300 Series of loudspeakers, which was initially released in 2018. The 2025 models have improved acoustics thanks to an all-new mid-woofer and soft-dome tweeter, the latter of which borrows technology from AE’s highest-end Corinium floorstanding speakers. There are four different loudspeaker models in the updated line: AE300² (stand-mount), AE309² (three-way floorstanding), AE320² (four-way floorstanding) and AE307² (center channel).

When paired with a Mac, it can support up to dual 60K (at 60Hz) or dual 4K (at 240Hz) external displays. Additionally, that Element 5 Hub is notably more compact than other Thunderbolt 5-enabled hubs.

Panasonic Z95B OLED TVPanasonic

Panasonic Z95B OLED

Last year, after more than a decade-long hiatus, Panasonic started selling TVs in the US again. The Z95A was its standout flagship OLED TV, and it was really well-reviewed by critics. This year, in 2025, the Panasonic Z95B is the successor to the Z95A. It features a new four-layer OLED panel — the same as LG uses in its 2025 OLED TVs — and promises to deliver an even better picture. Also notable is that it features a Technics-tuned Dolby Atmos system, complete with side- and up-firing speakers, which will have you asking: “Do I really need a soundbar?

Kanto Audio UKIKanto Audio

Kanto Audio UKI

The Canadian audio brand has made some of our favorite powered desktop speaker systems in recent years — the Ora4 ($400) and Ren ($600) are two recent examples — and the UKI aims to continue that trend. The speakers have a range of wired connections, so you can hook them up to your computer or turntable. And they support streaming via Bluetooth. Most notably, the two-way speakers stand just 6.5 inches tall and a pair costs $199, making them one of the company’s smallest and most affordable powered speaker systems.

Fujifilm Instax Wide Evo Hybrid Instant CameraFujifilm

Fujifilm Instax Wide Evo Hybrid Instant Camera

Fujifilm’s Instax Wide Evo is a hybrid film camera and successor to the 2022-released Instax Mini Evo. The main differences with the Wide Evo are that it’s bigger, more expensive and supports the company’s Wide format instant film, and thus can print photos that are twice as wide as the Mini Evo. The camera features a 3.5-inch LCD display that lets you view and edit photos before printing. Its built-in memory can store roughly 45 images, but it does support microSD cards for increased photo storage. And the camera also can double as a smartphone printer — you just need to download the free companion app.

LG 2025 OLED TVsLG

LG 2025 OLED TVs

Compared to their predecessors, these next-gen models have similar designs but pack improved processors, upgraded gaming features, and advanced AI capabilities. Regarding picture quality, the biggest improvements come to the higher-end G5 and flagship M5, which have new “four-stack” OLED panels that promise to deliver a picture three times as bright as the company’s new B5 OLED.

Audioengine B1 Bluetooth transmitterAudioengine

Audioengine B1 Music Receiver (2025)

Audioengine B1 (2025) is a next-gen version of the company’s original Bluetooth music receiver. It looks identical to past models, but Audioengine has upgraded it in two key ways. First, it supports aptX Adaptive, a next-generation Bluetooth codec that can play higher-quality wireless audio. And second, it also features an upgraded ESS-9018K2M DAC, which the brand says upsamples audio to 32-bit/96kHz.

Samsung The Frame ProSamsung

Samsung The Frame Pro

The Frame Pro is an ungraded version of Samsung’s super popular The Frame TV. Like its non-Pro sibling, The Frame Pro is a lifestyle TV that hangs on your wall and, thanks to a framed border and an ability to display artwork when idle, blends into your home. However, the difference is The Frame Pro has Samsung’s newest Neo QLED display with mini-LED backlighting. This promises to improve its contrast and brightness greatly and thus deliver the best possible picture ever in a The Frame TV.

Insta360 Flow 2 Pro

The second-generation model has a sturdier and more rigid build, making it easier to capture more creative shots. It has a built-in selfie mirror so you make sure you’re in the frame while vlogging. It has more advanced subject-tracking capabilities. And, like its predecessor, it supports Apple DockKit.

Samsung HW-QS700F soundbarSamsung

Samsung HW-QS700F

The HW-QS700F is a first-of-a-kind Dolby Atmos soundbar for Samsung. It has an innovative “convertible” design that, along with a built-in gyroscope, allows it to adapt its sound to where and how it’s placed. The sensor detects how the soundbar is positioned — either horizontally on a tabletop or vertically wall-mounted — and then changes the jobs of its speaker drivers accordingly. When switched from a tabletop to being wall-mounted, its front-firing drivers and up-firing drivers change roles and vice versa the other way.

TCL QM6K 2025 TVTCL

TCL QM6K QD-Mini LED TV

The TCL QM6K is the company’s new premium entry-level TV for 2025. It delivers excellent picture quality — thanks, in large parts, to being integrated with the company’s Mini-LED backlighting technology — at a very affordable price tag. Additionally, each model has a built-in Onkyo 2.1 sound system and thus should sound good on its own (although you’ll probably want to upgrade to a soundbar in time). It comes in six sizes ranging from 50-inches to the 98-inches (absolutely huge); the popular 65-inch model starts at just $1,000.

Creative Labs Pebble Nove desktop speakersCreative Labs

Creative Labs Pebble Nova Speakers

The Pebble Nova are the biggest, best, and most expensive desktop speakers in Creative Labs’s popular Pebble line. They are similarly designed, with a spherical shape that features coaxial speaker drivers, but each speaker is roughly twice the size of other Pebble models. They output 50 watts of power (100 watts peak) and promise significantly better sound with much beefier bass.

Belkin Stage PowerGripBelkin

Belkin Stage PowerGrip

Belkin’s Stage PowerGrip is a MagSafe portable battery that, interestingly, is shaped like a camera grip, making it easier to hold while capturing photos and videos. Unfortunately, there’s no built-in shutter button. The pack has a 10,000mAh capacity and can wirelessly charge your iPhone at 7.5 watts. It also has an integrated USB-C cable for charging a second device.

DJI Flip droneDJI

The DJI Flip is a lightweight, entry-level drone designed for beginner pilots and vloggers who want to record high-quality videos — it has a large 48-megapixel sensor and can capture 4K video at 60fps. It’s a drone that takes off right out of your hand and is super easy to fly, which can be done with or without a controller (the latter you’ll need for full manual control). It also has advanced object avoidance features for the company’s higher-end drones. Besides its relatively affordable price tag, Flip’s standout feature is its unique foldable design, where its four large propellers collapse downward into a travel-friendly package.

The Satechi SM3 is the well-known Apple accessory maker’s first full-sized mechanical keyboard. Like its predecessor, the Satechi SM1, it has an aluminum enclosure, tactile keys, backlighting, and the ability to work wired (via USB-C) or wirelessly (via Bluetooth 5.0). But the SM3 has a 108-key layout, complete with a numeric keypad, and promises to be a bigger, more comfortable typing companion for your Mac (or Windows) computer.

Swippitt smartphone charging systemSwippitt

Swippitt is a modular smartphone system consisting of a hub (the oversized toaster-looking thing) and Swippitt’s specialized smartphone cases. Each case has a built-in battery that, when low, you place the entire smartphone into the hub’s opening (top); it then swaps out the old battery with a fully charged one in seconds. This way, you never have to wait for your smartphone to charge.

It features an electromechanical “wordometer” that keeps track of how many words you type; an electromechanical sprint timer for writing sprint sessions; and a function key row populated with keys specific for writing (like “Find,” “Replace,” “Paragraph Up” and “Paragraph Down”). It can be used wired (USB-C) or wirelessly (Bluetooth), and is compatible with Macs and PCs. It will run as a Kickstarter and, if you put $1 down now, it ensures you’ll get the keyboard for the lowest Early Bird price.

Moft Find My-Enabled Snap-on Phone Stand and Wallet

As its name gives away, the Moft Find My-Enabled Snap-on Phone Stand and Wallet is an updated version of the company’s existing MagSafe-compatible minimalist wallet that works with Apple’s Find My network. It looks and works the same (albeit slightly thicker), but you can use the Find My app on your iPhone to find it if it gets misplaced. It has a four-month battery life and supports wireless charging, so you can wirelessly charge it with the same puck/stand you use to recharge your iPhone.

Dell 32 Plus 4K QD-OLED

The Dell 32 Plus 4K QD-OLED is a 31.5-inch monitor with a gorgeous 4K OLED display and a 120Hz refresh rate. The most interesting thing about it, however, is that it supports spatial audio with AI-driven head-tracking. So, no matter where you are in front of the monitor, its speakers will aim its audio directly at you so that you’re always positioned in the “sweet spot.” It’s like Apple’s Center Stage, but instead of making sure your face is always in the frame during video calls, it does that with audio so what you’re listening to always sounds its best. It’s a cool feature for those who don’t always like to wear headphones.
