peak design 18l outdoor backpackPeak Design

Peak Design 18L Outdoor Backpack

The cult bag brand augments the Outdoor line it launched last year with two new sizes. The Outdoor Sling is now available in a $75 4L size (splitting the difference between the 2L and 7L) while the backpack, introduced with 25L and 45L sizes, gets more compact and affordable than ever. The 18L size makes it ideal for day hikes, light commutes and streamlined photo missions (as the image above indicates). Like its larger brethren, the 18L pack boasts a 100 percent recycled, weatherproof Terra Shell 210D ripstop fabric with a PFAS-free water-repellant treatment.

Skullcandy Aviator 900 ANCSkullcandy

Skullcandy Aviator 900 ANC

Skullcandy, a brand best known for its budget-friendly wireless headphones and earbuds, is stepping into the big leagues with the Aviator 900 ANC. They are its most advanced and most expensive over-ear noise-canceling headphones to date, designed to compete with the flagships from Bose and Sony. They promise top-notch ANC, up to 60 hours of battery life, and support for advanced technologies, including spatial audio and THX Spatial Audio with head tracking. They also boast physical buttons and, most uniquely, a small LCD display that shows relevant info such as volume level.

Hisense M2 Pro projectorHisense

Hisense M2 Pro Laser Mini Projector

Hisense’s M2 Pro is the company’s smallest and most portable mini projector to date. It can deliver a 4K picture that’s up to 200 inches, and for brightness, it’s rated at 1,300 lumens. And it comes with AI features that make setting it up super easy, as it can automatically detect how far it is from the screen (or wall) and adjust its picture accordingly. Note: while technically “portable,” it doesn’t have a battery and thus needs to be powered at all times.

The result is a frankly gorgeous storage stool crafted from sturdy and lightweight aluminum with Vitra’s environmentally friendly fabric, Laser RE, for the pad on top. It also has a quartet of wheels, so you can move it easily wherever you need it, as well as a generous internal storage compartment (also lined with fabric) boasting customizable dividers.

The Best Minimalist EDC Utility Knife Just Got Even Better in Several Major Ways

[embedded content]

Not only is it incredibly fun and cathartic, but it’s also fidget-friendly, in the same way using an automatic car window for the first time is (except your dad isn’t here to yell at you about it).

While this mechanism existed in the original Zero, it’s been further refined in the Zero-G to make it even more deliberate, smooth, and tactile.

As you can see, this knife is incredibly sophisticated in its balance between simplicity and functionality.

Aluminum falcon

Okay, so comparing the Zero-G to the Millennium Falcon may not be the best metaphor. After all, the Zero-G is a lot sleeker than the Falcon, though there is something futuristic about it (I know, I know: A long time ago…).

For starters, it’s machined from solid aluminum, which makes it incredibly durable but also lightweight — some of the best EDC knives from major manufacturers use similar aluminum in their handles. It also means it comes in a wide variety of colors, including silver, black, blue, red, purple and a few others (including my favorite: Blood Spatter).

Citizen Honors a Groundbreaking Retro Dive Watch with a Faithful Reissue

It then translates that applied pressure to depth — the higher the pressure, the deeper the dive. It then translates that data into meters (down to a tenth of a meter), which can be read on the digital display.

That extends further. In addition to having an active depth meter, it can also remember your recent diving depths, has a rapid ascent alarm (so you don’t end up with nitrogen narcosis) and more.

Not only does this feature help set Aqualand apart, but it’s also an incredibly cool piece of retro technology that’s still pretty useful for anyone who enjoys diving. But it’s not all the watch has going for it.

What’s lurking beneath the surface

It bears repeating that this watch is still a highly capable ISO-compliant diver even without the automatic depth sensor. It’s also very stylish, marked by a 43.5mm gray stainless steel case, black dial and bezel (and matching “Biomass-based polyurethane” strap), and gold detailing—a throwback combo that harkens to the original.

Of course, that rotating bezel is a useful dive timer on its own. It also has an offset crown at the 4 o’clock position with some added protection. Plus, the whole thing is good for depths of up to 200 meters.

Belkin Nintendo Switch 2 Charging CaseBelkin

Belkin Nintendo Switch 2 Charging Case

Belkin has released several accessories for the Nintendo Switch 2 — it’s actually the brand’s first foray into the gaming accessory category — and this travel case is the standout. It has a durable exterior and a brushed velvet interior lining. And it features a game card storage flap and a hidden AirTag compartment (AirTag not included). But its standout feature is that it comes with a 10,000mAh power bank, which has enough juice to fully recharge the Switch 2 up to 1.5 times. This way, you can easily charge your Switch 2 while you travel. Belkin offers the case in three colors: charcoal, sand or green (shown).

Civivi Pragma Prime EDC knifeCivivi

Civivi Pragma Prime

One of Civivi’s best small knives has gotten a full-sized, fully-featured big brother in the Pragma Prime. While it loses its integrated carabiner clip, it retains its futuristic styling, button lock and sheepsfoot blade shape. However, it also gets a blade upgrade from Nitro-V to 14C28N, offering better overall edge retention. For those looking to upgrade, there’s also a finer Damascus blade option for a little extra money.

No. 22 Drifter X

Of No. 22’s dazzling three-member family of Drifter gravel bikes, this all-road-oriented option is perhaps the most stunning. Optimized for precise handling and seamless power transfer on Gucci gravel and tarmac, the Drifter X boasts a compact rear triangle, reduced stack height, stiff drivetrain, titanium seat mast and No. 22’s signature 3D-printed topper. Accommodating up to 42mm tires, it also features a No. 6 Composites gravel fork and the option for full internal cable routing via the brand’s 3D-printed titanium cockpit system. Every bike is built to order at No. 22’s upstate New York facility, with a lead time of six weeks for framesets and eight weeks for complete bikes.

Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO XBeyerdynamic

Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro X

Beyerdynamic has released an updated version of its DT 990 Pro, which has been the venerable hi-fi maker’s most popular studio headphones for the last several decades. The DT 990 Pro “X” has been updated with the brand’s STELLAR.45 driver system and a lower impedance (48 ohms), so they promise to sound better and be easier to drive than their predecessors. The design of these open-back headphones has been tweaked to improve comfort. They also have a detachable cable (a 3-meter mini-XLR to 3.5mm), which provides listeners with the flexibility to switch between lengths or inputs using a different cable.

New Balance Made in USA 992CC

After years of dominance by the 990, the 992 is currently in contention for New Balance’s “It” sneaker. It offers a softer, more rounded appearance with layers of suede panels over a mesh base. Combining New Balance’s ENCAP heel block, C-Cap midsole and ABZORB cushioning provides an exceptional balance of support and bounce. As with all the Made in USA models, it is the highest quality New Balance offers.

Vosteed’s Boldest EDC Knife Design Yet Has a Surprising Historical Heritage

When Vosteed put a message out about the brand’s latest EDC knife release, it read, “We shouldn’t have made this blade … but we did.”

I, for one, thoroughly disagree. As is so often the case with the brand’s new releases, I was immediately captured by the Vosteed Naga. Not only is this one of the brand’s boldest designs to date, but it also has a significant connection to knifemaking history and heritage.

Vosteed Naga EDC Knife in front of topographical map
The Naga’s eye-catching design is inspired by the Spanish Navaja, a folding knife that dates back to the 17th century.
Vosteed

Spanish-ish

While Vosteed isn’t a Spanish knifemaker, the design of the Naga is directly tied to the country’s history. In fact, it’s based on a traditional folder called the Navaja.

Dating back to the late 1600s, the Navaja is believed to have been derived from the straight razor (navaja de afeitar in Spanish). Traditionally, this heirloom knife is a friction folder, meaning it has no locking mechanism or even a pressure spring (as in a slipjoint), instead relying on the user’s grip to keep the knife secure when deployed.

The Vosteed Naga bears many of the stylistic hallmarks of the Navaja, including its curved handle shape and blade (almost like a more curvy Bowie blade).

Is This New Seiko the Finest Dress Watch You Can Get for $2,000?

Due to the nature of the material, each dial is unique from the rest.

But wait, there’s more. Seiko didn’t simply port over the ancient techniques; the brand added its own touch. Introduced in the Presage line, Seiko developed an unglazed version of Arita porcelain.

Unlike its glossy predecessor, this version is warmer, boasts a matte appearance and has given this version of the porcelain its own distinctive character. Furthermore, due to the nature of the material, each dial is unique from the rest.

Seiko

Right on time

While the dial is the watch’s banner feature, the rest of the watch is still highly exceptional. That includes its super hard-coated stainless steel case and understated leather band.

More importantly, however, is the movement beneath the dial. This Seiko is equipped with a Caliber 6R51 24-jewel automatic movement boasting a 72-hour power reserve. However, if it runs out of juice, it also has the benefit of manual winding, so you can get it ready to go in moments.

This Ultra-Minimalist EDC Knife Is Deceptively Jam-Packed with Value

Let’s be honest: Kickstarter can be pretty hit or miss when it comes to everyday carry gear, including knives, especially for new makers. Still, every so often, a diamond in the rough emerges.

Such is the case with the Deadman Design Co. Elixir. Its name is more appropriate than you might think, as this surprisingly value-packed minimalist cutting tool could solve all your EDC knife woes.

With a chunky blade, ergonomic handle and minimalist styling, this knife is an EDC dreamboat.
Deadman Design Co.

Minimal styling, maximal features

As implied, this is Deadman Design Co.’s first-ever production knife. And if it’s any indication, the brand has a bright future. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that this cutting tool was crafted with the help of Reate, a much bigger and highly underrated brand. Still, the heart and soul come from Deadman.

It certainly doesn’t hurt that the materials and mechanisms are up to snuff with other knives in its class. The blade, for instance, is MagnaCut steel, probably the most popular super steel of the moment.

The handle is similarly outfitted. The scales are crafted from titanium, and the knife has a reliable old-standard frame lock. All signs point to this knife being sturdy, tough and ready for work.

Pro-Ject Travel Set

Pro-Ject’s Travel Set is designed for on-the-go audiophiles. It’s a traditional stereo setup, consisting of the brand’s smallest passive bookshelf speakers, the Speaker Box 3 E Carbon ($399), and its compact Bluetooth-enabled amplifier, the Stereo Box S3 BT ($499). The necessary cables and damping feet are included, too. The kicker is that it comes with an aluminum travel case that’s heavily padded to ensure your gear’s safe transport. The idea is that, wherever you travel to, you can bring a proper stereo hi-fi system with you.

Matty Matheson x Gozney Signature Tread

Gozney tapped celebrity chef and longtime ambassador Matty Matheson for its first signature pizza oven — a blaze-orange colorway of the Tread, complete with laser etching on the sides. A bundle includes the Tread Venture stand, as well a custom camo peel (both of which can be purchased separately). As for the oven, it’s the same portable design of the original Tread, meaning it boasts a lateral gas burner and rugged metal body in a lightweight form factor; it’s also compatible with all existing (and future) Tread accessories.

Chrome Industries x Rio Uribe Pride Collection

For its boldest collection yet, Chrome teamed up with designer Rio Uribe to celebrate LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities through the lens of LA’s Chicano and lowrider communities. The result is a dozen stunning limited-editing pieces — including a Citizen 15L Messenger ($165, above), three different Kadet bags and various accessories — festooned with metallic glitter, bandana print linings and embroidered rainbow roses inspired by the 1964 Chevy Impala Gypsy Rose. As part of the campaign, Chrome is donating a portion of the proceeds to Somos Familia Valle, an LGBTQ+ community organization dedicated to support, empower and mobilize families and allies for racial, gender and economic justice in the San Fernando Valley.

Old Fitzgerald 7 Year Bottle In Bond BourbonOld Fitzgerald

Old Fitzgerald 7-Year-Old Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon

Heaven Hill’s Old Fitzgerald label has, for a long time, been one of its unicorn brands. Its whiskey is often highly lauded and, as a result, difficult to find — especially at an affordable price. This 7-Year-Old Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon is slated to change all that. The aim with this novel spirit is to offer an Old Fitzgerald expression that’s far more affordable and more widely available than ever before. Even still, it’ll likely be extremely popular for a while, so you might still have trouble finding bottles.

Rose gold plating is applied to the hands on the salmon dial reference only.

These 5 Seiko Movements Made the Brand King of Value, Reliability and Innovation

In 1969, a group of Swiss watchmakers, including TAG Heuer and Zenith, collaborated to develop the first automatic chronograph. On the other side of the world, Seiko secretly created its own automatic chronograph simultaneously.

The Swiss won the race, but Seiko’s solo effort is arguably more impressive. It resulted in the caliber 6139, which powered the iconic Speedtimer.

Seiko has continued to innovate automatic chronographs ever since, and the modern evolution of the 6139 is the 8R46, found in contemporary automatic Speedtimer references.

Honorable Mentions

The 6R series is the more refined counterpart to the 4R series. These calibers are almost exclusively found in the Presage collection, with the Alpinist being the lone exception.

The major differences compared to the 4R calibers are a higher beat frequency of 28,800, halfway to the 36,000 Hi-Beat mark, and a longer power reserve of 70-72 hours. It also allows the wearer to wind the watch manually, along with its ever-present automatic winding.

The Year’s Most Innovative Cooler Aims to Reinvent the Classics (Exclusive)

Dometic Recon coolerDometic

Dometic built a cooling empire with its electric ice boxes. Its most disruptive idea might be the simplest.

Dometic is a disruptor.

Based in Sweden, the overlanding darling has roots dating back to the early 20th century, when two engineering students had an idea for a cooling cabinet with no compressor, no moving parts and no ice. Today, we refer to their invention, quite simply, as a refrigerator.

A century later, the company is one of the largest outdoor lifestyle conglomerates in the world, with sales of more than $2.3 billion across all of its branches, including the pioneering American brand Igloo.

As for Dometic proper, the brand now manufacturers a wide swatch of products, ranging from rooftop tents to RV toilets to, the crown jewel of its catalog, electric coolers.

However, its most disruptive offering to date may yet be its simplest: a range of passive coolers called the Recon. Just don’t call them “traditional.”

Dometic Recon coolerDometic

Designed from the outside-in

“Our thought process from the beginning was not to launch another ultra-tough performance cooler. We wanted to have something unique. We wanted to bring in some innovation,” said Jeff Diamond, the Global Head of Mobile Cooling Product, in an exclusive interview with Gear Patrol.

The most radical idea turned out to be the simplest — namely, a reimagining from the cooler from the outside-in.

Dometic Recon coolerDometic

“Rather than develop a cooler that was optimized for the inside space, we actually designed it for the outside dimensions first,” Diamond added.

“I really wanted to get away from simply marketing a capacity. So we thought, ‘Hey, let’s just go small, medium and large.’ Then we can talk about secondly what fits inside the cooler.”

On that note, Recon is not a single standalone offering but a system where both hard and soft coolers of various sizes follow not just one another but real-world use cases. They are designed to nestle neatly in a garage or vehicle, what that be in the back of a truck bed or behind a passenger seat.

Dometic Recon coolerDometic

The foundation of a system

That said, there’s more to these coolers than thoughtful sizing. The lids, for example, open for multiple directions, and they can also be removed entirely — traits that not only underscore their accessibility and versatility but longterm potential.

Dometic Recon coolerDometic

Because, according to Diamond, a removable lid is an indication of what’s in store down the road.

“It allows for us to be thinking about lid accessories, whether it be seating, cutting boards or [the] integration of electric cooling,” he said. “Or maybe you just want to use it as a party bucket and keep the lid off of it.”

To be clear, this isn’t to say Recon is launching without a full suite of accessories that include dividers, baskets and a handful of other neat add-ons.

Dometic Recon coolerDometic

One of its most novel is a spigot (included with the small hardside cooler) that connects to the drain cap, thereby converting the receptacle into a 16-liter water jug. What’s more, it even integrates with the Dometic Faucet for a more elevated configuration.

Dometic Recon coolerDometic

After all, a cooler is just a cooler — until it isn’t.

“A lot of consumers are using a cooler in more ways than just a cooler,” Diamond says, connecting their thermal and protective properties for use cases that extend beyond chilling beer.

In other words, thinking bigger than the number of cans that fit inside it suddenly opens up a whole world of possibilities.

Dometic Recon coolerDometic

Pricing and availability

The Dometic Recon series is available to purchase from Dometic’s official website, with prices starting at $225.

The hardside cooler comes in two colors, yellow Glow and gray Silt. The softside cooler comes in gray and green Lichen.

A Respected Tactical Brand’s Formidable New Knife Comes from a Legendary Japanese Designer

A decade and a half ago, SOG kicked off a partnership with Japanese designer Kiku Matsuda. That partnership resulted in the creation of the SOG Kiku series, some of the brand’s best knives ever (one of which made our list of the best pocket knives).

Now, the lauded tactical and EDC knifemaking brand and Matsuda have partnered up once more, this time on the SOG Hidaka FX 3V. To the benefit of outdoorsmen and tactical fanatics everywhere, this fixed blade definitely lives up to the hype.

The knife’s CRYO 3V blade has a complex grind, making it incredibly versatile.
SOG

Living on the edge

If you’re familiar with the SOG Kiku, you know it’s a pretty unique knife. However, this follow-up clearly shows that Matsuda has a signature style.

Like the Kiku before it, this knife’s blade boasts a tanto-style blade with a complex grind. It boasts an excellent piercing tip and, just past it, a solid couple of inches of cutting edge good for basic and detail-oriented tasks.

But where the blade angles toward the hilt, the edge takes a surprising turn — or rather, it goes concave. Like the Kiku, this gentle concave shape makes the lower part of the edge better for hard-use cutting tasks, like chopping.

This ’60s Dive Watch Revival Just Got Bolder, Lighter and Stronger

After staying out of the dive watch game for decades, Zenith is doubling down on its gorgeous 1960s reissue with an upgraded case and flashier look.

In 2024, Zenith dusted off its dive watch department with the Defy Revival, a faithful reproduction of the 1969 Defy diver that was affectionately called “The Vault” for its octagonal shape and 600m water resistance.

a Zenith dive watch
The new Defy Revival used Zenith’s Shadow Edition micro-blasted titanium with a shadowy finish.
Zenith

Sticking to the original design, aside from some technical updates like a new movement, the first Defy Revival had a steel case and integrated bracelet. This new upgrade applies Zenith’s Shadow Edition micrblasted titanium to the case and bracelet.

Familiar from previous releases in the Defy collection, this slate gray alloy has a shadowy matte finish—hence the name. It also increases the durability and decreases the weight of the initial Defy Revival.

a zenith watch dial in the dark
The hands, hour markers and bezel key are coated in lume, and the yellow detailing is still visible in low light.
Zenith

In stark contrast to the darkened case and bracelet, Zeneith cranked up the visibility of the dial and bezel with a shade of yellow that would pass a construction site safety inspection.

While it retains the angular case, integrated bracelet and 1960’s dial layout, the Defy Revival Shadow Edition sacrifices some of its retro charm for enhanced performance.

Fi Series 3+Fi

Fi Series 3+

Fi’s third-generation GPS smart collar is more like an Apple Watch for your dog rather than a dog collar. Like its predecessors, the Series 3+ can track your dog’s location and monitor its health and habits, such as steps and sleep. However, this newest version has a couple of key advantages. It’s integrated with AI features for more advanced habit tracking, such as licking, barking, and scratching, and can therefore serve as an early indicator of any potential warning signs. It’s also Fi’s first dog collar that fully supports the Apple Watch, so you can check your dog’s location and activity right from your wrist. Pricing is based on a subscription — it starts at $14/month.

These Lightweight Retro EDC Knives Are Way Too Cool to Be This Affordable

The scales are made from polycarbonate — the same material used to craft bulletproof glass — so they’re plenty sturdy.

In fact, along with being strong, they’re also resistant to chemicals, moisture and temperature changes. Furthermore, they’re remarkably lightweight — hence the name (Arcade Lite).

Like the tech they harken to, the colorful options are also extremely fun. There’s Digital Green, Atomic Purple and Ocean Blue. But for those who prefer a more subtle touch, there’s also Smoke Black.

Game Shark? More like Demko Shark

For all their quirks and their remarkably accessible price point, you might expect these knives to be little more than a novelty, not something you’d add to your EDC loadout. Well, you’d be wrong.

While they are clearly playful, they’re also very much quality cutting tools. As mentioned, the handles are tough polycarbonate, but they’re also textured to give some satisfying grip to the user.

For the First Time, Benchmade Discounted a Knife Without Discontinuing It — and It’s a Fan-Favorite

On the opposite end, you’ll find a pair of black Grivory handle scales, which are incredibly lightweight, stable and — thanks to their machining pattern — grippy in just about any conditions. The handle also has the brand’s signature AXIS (crossbar) lock.

The tail of the handle features the knife’s signature “bail” from which its name is derived. It can be used as a prybar, ad-hoc driver and a lanyard attachment point. With all of this and more, it’s clear why the Bailout is such a popular series.

Pricing and availability

Usually, this Benchmade Bailout Black Grivory EDC knife costs $200. However, it’s on sale for 20 percent off, bringing the price down to $160.

You can find it on the brand’s site or over at Blade HQ. However, it likely won’t stay in stock at this price for long.

Your Leatherman Has a Hidden Tool the Brand Doesn’t Tell You About

If strength comes in numbers, Leatherman multi-tools pack one hell of a punch.

The best-selling Wave+, for example, boasts a whopping 18 tools, ranging from needle-nose pliers to spring-action scissors — not to mention two distinct bit drivers, as well as a medium flathead screwdriver.

At least those are the ones Leatherman tells you about …

According to the product page, the Wave+ comes with 18 tools. But there is extra functionality hidden in the handle.

Hidden utility

The truth is, a handful of popular Leatherman multi-tools, including the Wave+, have unspoken functionality built into the design, and you won’t find it on a product page.

In fact, you need to look really closely to pick up on one of the most useful tools of all.

WESN’s Tiny, Heritage-Quality EDC Knife Is a Puzzling Masterpiece

In the late ’70s and early ’80s, the Rubik’s Cube took the world by storm. Billed as a puzzle toy, it was equal parts mechanical wonder and near-magical oddity. As a kid, WESN’s founder, Billy Chester, was obsessed with the Rubik’s Cube.

According to WESN’s Head of Marketing & Creative, Ethan Thompson, that obsession stayed with him. “The number of times he’s said making a mechanical puzzle is his ‘dream collab’ is measurable.” In fact, it may have directly led to the brand’s latest EDC knife collaboration.

Crafted in conjunction with YouTuber and magician Chris Ramsay, the WESN x 1st Magic Puzzle Box and Microblade keychain knife set is a master-crafted EDC wonder that requires some cleverness to use.

The “skeleton key” Microblade is the clear star of the show, but the puzzle box it comes in is extremely cool, too.
WESN

Do you believe in magic?

The collaboration actually comes in two parts. Obviously, the knife is the prize to be had, but customers will have to earn it, as it comes inside a puzzle box that took “more than 24 months of research, six design overhauls, and countless prototypes” to perfect.

“We have never, ever, designed or manufactured something like this before,” Thompson says. “Every tiny tolerance and moving piece has an important function. A tiny difference can throw off the whole puzzle. It took quite a few rounds of sampling, but we finally got there.”

H. Moser & Cie. x Alpine Motorsports Streamliner Alpine Edition

H. Moser & Cie. and its Formula 1 Racing partner, Alpine Motorsports, created a matching pair of watches celebrating the dynamic between the sport’s drivers and mechanics. It consists of the skeletonized fly-back chronograph Streamliner Alpine Driver’s Edition and the Mechanic’s Edition, which blends a two-hand analog time dial and digital screen equipped with a GMT, a split-seconds chronograph, a perpetual calendar and a countdown. The combo can be purchased together, or the Mechanics Edition can be purchased individually.

Herman Miller Girard StoolHerman Miller

Herman Miller Girard Stool

Originally created in the late 1960s, the Girard Stool returns to showcase the patterns of its namesake designer. Alexander Girard created many celebrated textile patterns for Herman Miller in his day, including Double Triangles, Arabesque and Mexidot — all featured here. Sustainability is a key focus for the reissue, and the Girard Stool now features a recycled aluminum base and bio-based foam cushion.

Designed to hug the body for easier concealment beneath a coat or jacket, this crossbody pack boasts a wide “taco shell” opening for easy access, a secure passport pocket and plenty of internal storage. This version is also crafted from UltraGrid recycled ripstop nylon that’s tough, naturally weatherproof and lightweight, alongside Challenge Sailcloth EPX400 (an ultralight, ultra-tough fabric). Snow Peak x Merrell Moab Speed 2Snow Peak

Snow Peak x Merrell Moab Speed 2

Merrell teamed up with Snow Peak to release a limited-edition version of its Moab Speed 2. The hiking/running shoes have been upgraded with a waterproof Gore-Tex membrane, Vibram traction lugs, and abrasion-resistant heel and toe caps — so they promise to be even more rugged than the originals. They also come in a special slate grey finish. The only real caveat is that these upgrades come at a price — they’re about $70 more expensive than Merrell’s regular Moab Speed 2.

Brompton x Tour de France P Line

Brompton gears up for the Tour de France with two limited-edition folding bikes sure to stand out on any street. While the C Line is outfitted with unmistakably yellow accents that echo the Leader’s Jersey, the P Line will really pop for hardcore fans. The two-toned green frame nods to the Sprinter’s Jersey while polka dots on the seat and tube shout out the King of the Mountains Jersey. Both bikes also feature additional TDF touches, including sublimated race-day photography printed directly onto the frame and an “Allez Allez Allez” decal that should lift you up when the pedals get heavy.

This Rugged Diver Is Made to Be as Legible as Possible, Even in the Darkest Depths

More interestingly, the typical numeral dial markers have been eschewed in favor of Baignoire-style” indices. While minimalist, they’re still distinct — the 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock markers are unique, while 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock are the same oval shape, and the rest are small circles.

This minimalist design choice keeps the dial readable, even at a glance, without bogging it down with too many hard-to-discern figures and symbols. In contrast, the rotating dive timer bezel bears standardized numerals and markers, helping contrast it from the dial markers.

All that style means precisely squat if the watch’s functionality isn’t up to snuff. But Bell & Ross pulled no punches with this launch.

Beneath that lumed dial, you’ll find a Caliber BR-CAL.302-1 automatic movement with a 54-hour power reserve. It’s housed in a solid case that’s good for depths of up to 300 meters.

This Affordable Seiko-Powered Chronograph Is an Homage to the Golden Age of Racing Watches

Vaer’s first batch of watches was produced overseas and the brand still utilizes offshore production for more affordable models, but it is gradually growing domestic production for higher quality models like the R1 USA Chronograph.

The brand currently produces about 30 references in its Scottsdale, AZ facility, including dive watches, field watches, chronographs and GMTs. They all use quartz, automatic and meca-quartz movements from revered Japanese manufacturers Miyota and Seiko.

A need for speed

Introduced in 2022, the R1 USA Chronograph was Vaer’s first foray into the stopwatch complication, and its design was influenced by auto racing watches from the late 1960s and early 1970s.

The 38mm elliptical stainless steel case is topped with domed sapphire crystal and has a screw-down crown. It is powered by a Seiko caliber VK63 meca-quartz movement with a central seconds counter and 60-minute totalizer at nine o’clock.
