Nike’s Stylish Tributes to Its Original Sneaker Quietly Cost Less Than Ever

Nike’s Waffle sneakers have long since traded the cinder tracks of the 1970s for city sidewalks and weekend wardrobes.

What began as a pioneering running shoe, optimized for use on the new artificial turfs and surfaces slowly taking over track and field, is now a go-to for those seeking heritage styling in a market full of loud retro runners.

A single Nike Waffle Nav and Waffle Debut are shown in profile, with the toes facing the right of the image frame stacked vertically but not touching, and shown against a grey background
Both the Nike Waffle Nav (bottom) and Waffle Debut (top) share a similar DNA that stretches all the way back to the first Nike sneaker. Currently, both lifestyle sneakers are on sale for some of the lowest prices we’ve seen Nikes hit.
Nike

And while Nike’s Waffle family has expanded over the years to include sleeker, lifestyle-focused takes and coveted limited collabs, two of the brand’s more accessible interpretations—the Nike Waffle Debut and Waffle Nav — are now even more affordable.

Seven classic colorways are available with a 20% discount when you use the code SPORT at checkout for a limited time. Better yet, this discount code even applies to existing sale prices on select colors, making a few of these waffle trainers some of the most affordable Nikes we’ve ever seen.

Echoes of an Icon

On February 26, 1974, Nike received a patent for its waffle trainer running shoe (shown above). The name came from the original prototype for the running shoe’s innovative grippy sole, which Bill Bowerman created by pouring rubber into a household waffle iron. To this day, Nike’s innovation lab is known as “the kitchen” in honor of Bowerman’s first makeshift footwear lab.
Nike

The story of the Nike Waffle Racer—affectionately known as the Moon Shoe—has taken on near-mythic proportions in sneaker history (there’s even an illustrated children’s book about the origins of the waffle sole.)

After 70 Years, an Icon of EDC Finally Gets a Redesign

Opinel’s Virobloc safety ring is one of the most significant, important and recognizable locking mechanisms in all of EDC history. And for 70 years, it’s been virtually the only lock the family-owned and -operated French brand has employed.

However, after seven decades, that has officially changed. The brand’s newest innovation, the Opinel Opiflex (introduced via its Néo6 EDC folder), could usher in a new wave of offerings.

Opinel Néo6 Folding Tool
The Néo6 EDC folder, seen here, is the vessel through which the Opiflex has been introduced.
Opinel

Give ’em the slip

The brand’s original lock, the Virobloc, is magnificent in its simplicity. Essentially, it’s a C-shaped piece of metal attached to the pocket knife’s pivot point. With the blade either opened or closed, this safety ring can be rotated to “lock” the blade in either position.

If this seems familiar, it’s probably because it sounds a lot like a slipjoint mechanism.

That said, it’s not the most elegant mechanism and can be clunky. With the Opiflex (what the brand calls a “blade retention system”), it seeks to offer a much simpler, more intuitive option.

Minase Uruga Ice Blue

Minase is perhaps the ultimate “if you know, you know” Japanese watch brand, known for its complex case and bracelet constructions and the impressive amount of hand-finishing that goes into them. But on the Uruga Ice Blue, it’s the dial that steals the show. It boasts a rippled texture and an icy shade that recalls Grand Seiko’s iconic Omiwatari. The Uruga’s dial stuns with its beauty, especially when combined with its 27-part case that’s completely hand-polished and heavily features another Grand Seiko hallmark, Zaratsu polishing, where steel parts are given a distortion-free mirror finish. Powering the watch, unlike Grand Seiko, is a Swiss-made movement — an ETA 2892 automatic — that’s been given a glow-up by Minase. The Uruga Ice Blue is available on a leather or rubber strap for $5,150, or on a steel bracelet for $6,600.

Obsoless iPh0n3 USB C Protection CaseObsoless

Obsoless iPh0n3 USB-C Protection Case

A few years ago, Apple made a frustrating change to the iPhone: swapping its longtime Lightning connector to the more widely used USB-C. Anyone with an older phone has had to deal with the repercussions of that, like struggling to find modern Lightning-compatible charging cables. Well, fret no longer, as this case makes it far simpler. Pop your older model iPhone into it, and it exchanges the Lightning port for a USB-C option. Plus, it’s still MagSafe compatible, so you don’t have to worry about wireless compatibility, either.

morelle ebikeMorelle

Morelle eBike

These days, a fast e-bike charge time is a couple of hours. So, with a 350Wh downtube battery pack it claims can fully charge in just 15 minutes, California startup Morelle could be on the verge of changing the game. The key shift is using a silicon anode: with 10 times the energy capacity of the standard graphite anode, it promises significantly better battery energy density and charging speed. The bike itself appears to be more of a showcase for charging tech that could revolutionize humanoid robots, but with a sleek look, 30-pound weight, 28mph of pedal assistance and mountain bike pioneer Gary Fisher on board as head developer, it appears legit. You can reserve one now starting at $50, with deliveries expected to begin early next year.

Elgato Facecam 4KElgato

Elgato Facecam 4K

Elgato’s Facecam 4K is a USB-C webcam that can deliver true 4K resolution at 60fps — and it’s seemingly a more affordable successor to the brand’s Facecam Pro, which was released in 2022 and cost $300. Most notably, the Facecam 4K is the first webcam to support any 49mm lens filter, allowing you to bring cinematic effects or just reduce glare and reflections (via a circular polarizer filter) to your webcam. These filters screw just like a lens filter for a DSLR camera.

At launch, BMW stated that certain Individual colors could add 10-14 weeks to the production time.

Netgear Orbi 370 Wi-Fi 7 Mesh Router SystemNetgear

Netgear Orbi 370 Series

Netgear’s Orbi 370 Series is the company’s most affordable Wi-FI 7 mesh router system to date. It starts at $250 for a two-pack, featuring a router and one mesh satellite. A three-pack, which adds an extra satellite, costs $350. The system promises Wi-Fi speeds of up to 5 Gbps. And it’s compatible with all internet service providers.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park Is Just the Start in this Wild Corner of North Carolina

Where to eat, sleep, shop, and play in the Smoky Mountains and Cherokee region of Western North Carolina.

The seven-county region that makes up the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina contains a large swath of the most popular national park in the country, as well as the 56,000-acre Qualla Boundary, the home of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee. These mountains have a longstanding tradition of agriculture and adventure, both of which are alive and thriving today.

WNC Smoky Mountains and Cherokee

“We’re lucky to have started our business here,” says Megan Brown, founder of Waynesville Soda Jerks, a handmade soda company that uses local ingredients for one-of-a-kind flavors like Blueberry Basil. “The people here are so supportive of small businesses, especially those that support local agriculture. And we love the simplicity of life here. The access to nature and locally grown food in such a peaceful place. I can’t imagine living anywhere else.”

Dig into the Smoky Mountains and Cherokee region below or jump over to our comprehensive guide to visiting Western North Carolina this summer.

WNC Fly Fishing Trail

Jackson County is the official Trout Capital of North Carolina, boasting 4,600 miles of trout streams and more than 92,000 trout stocked annually — the most of any county in the state. The county also holds the state record for the largest rainbow trout ever caught. The WNC Fly Fishing Trail strings together 15 of the best fishing spots in the area, from narrow headwaters creeks like Scott Creek near Balsam, to Trophy waters like the Raven Fork, where trout up to 30 inches can be targeted.

Raft the Nantahala River

The Nantahala River has carved a deep gorge through the heart of the Smoky Mountains region. An eight-mile section of that river has become one of the most popular white water runs in the country, offering fun but challenging Class II and III whitewater with more than 20 named rapids. The culmination of the adventure is the final class III ledge called Nantahala Falls just before the takeout. The Nantahala Outdoor Center has been guiding trips down the river since the ‘70s and still sets the standard for quality adventure in the area.

Bike Fire Mountain Trails

Built in the heart of the Qualla Boundary, Fire Mountain offers an 11-mile system of multi-use trails that are optimized for mountain bikers. The system is full of smooth, fast berms as well as technical rock gardens and the occasional tabletop for those that want to test their relationship with gravity. Kessel Run, a fast, twisting descent down the mountain, is the system’s signature ride. All trails are marked with difficulty designations, just like at a ski resort, so you can safely ride within your skill set.

Sometimes, the prettiest view is right next to the road. Dry Falls is a roadside waterfall near the resort town of Highlands off Highway 64 where the Cullasaja River drops over the face of a 75-foot cliff. A trail has been built that travels behind the falls, allowing you to walk behind the curtain of water without getting wet.

Standup Paddle Fontana Lake

The 29-mile long Fontana Lake helps form the southwestern border of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, offering 240-miles of forested shoreline that is largely undeveloped. You can walk across Fontana Dam, the tallest dam east of the Rockies, for a unique view of the lake on one side, while a number of access points along the eastern shore offer access for boaters and anglers. Put in at the Tsali Recreation Area, in the Nantahala National Forest, and you can paddle to islands and look for rope swings dangling above the water.

Fish and Camp on Lake Chatuge

Lake Chatuge offers 130 miles of shoreline, most of which is protected by national forest. The Jackrabbit Mountain Recreation Area occupies a peninsula that stretches into the cold mountain lake offering a bevy of adventure opportunities, from mountain biking to fishing. There’s also a campground with 92 sites, many of which have views of the lake. If you want to get in the water,  a designated swimming area has a sandy beach, but fishing is the thing here. Launch a boat or cast from the fishing pier to target striped bass, crappie and sunfish.

Tube the Pigeon River

There is no better way to relax during the summer than floating in a tube down a mountain stream. The Pigeon River can get hectic during its journey from Western North Carolina through Eastern Tennessee, and has some iconic rapids that rafters love, but the stretch leading into Canton is a mellow cruise perfect for tubers. Cold Mountain Tubing, in downtown Canton, rents tubes and can put you on a mellow float that will last from one to three hours depending on the water level.

The Best Automatic Sports Watch Under $500 Just Added a High-End Touch

If there’s one style of watch that has defined the 2020s thus far, it’s the integrated sports watch.

Once the exclusive dominion of high-end brands like Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe, the genre has seen a democratization this decade thanks to the introduction of a wide range of affordable alternatives, beginning with the Tissot PRX in 2021.

Just one year after Tissot shook up the industry, Citizen launched its own take on the integrated sports watch with the Tsuyosa. Borrowing style cues from the Rolex Datejust for its dial and merging them with a retro integrated case and silky bracelet, the Tsuyosa became an overnight success for Citizen, aided by the fact that it was an automatic watch from a known brand priced at just $475 — nearly 50 percent less than the PRX Powermatic 80.

Citizen’s new Tsuyosa limited edition brings a heightened luxury vibe to the affordable favorite.
Citizen

Now, Citizen has debuted a new limited-edition version of the Tsuyosa that adds some luxurious touches to the dial … while still keeping the price south of $500.

Smoking Section

The new Citizen Tsuyosa is a member of the smaller 37mm Tsuyosa family, which debuted in February of this year to positive acclaim. It’s a limited edition dubbed the “Time Slip,” and while Citizen hasn’t given any info on the origin of the name, the design is certainly striking.

The dial has been given a fumé-style treatment, with a gradient pattern that changes from light charcoal in the center to black at the edges. Amplifying the dial’s smoked effect is a granular texture, with the entire look mimicking true fumé enamel from high-end brands like Moser.

This DLC version is especially notable, as it adds black DLC coating on the bezel, pushers, crown and caseback, with the subdial at 6:00 getting a crosshair motif and the one at 9:00 sporting a yellow airplane hand against a yellow and bright blue backdrop. Powered by a meca-quartz movement from Seiko, pricing starts at just $434.

Is the Best Satellite Communicator Already in Your Pocket? Yes and No.

Using your smartphone to call for help from the middle of nowhere used to be a fantasy. For years, serious adventurers relied on rugged satellite messengers like Garmin’s inReach series for peace of mind beyond the reach of cellular towers.

But in the last few years, smartphones have quietly begun closing that gap—first with emergency-focused features from Apple and Google, and now with a growing wave of carrier-backed services that promise broader compatibility and richer capabilities.

Satellite messaging is no longer just a niche perk—it’s fast becoming a mainstream feature. And while smartphones still have a way to go before they rival the rugged reliability of dedicated satellite messengers, they’re rapidly becoming smarter, safer companions for anyone heading off the grid.

Here’s a cheatsheet to help you understand the current satellite messaging smartphone landscape and how it compares to dedicated backcountry communication devices.

Device-Exclusive Satellite Communication Services

A pair of iPhone's showing screen shots of Apple's Emergency SOS via Satellite capabilities
Apple deserves credit for being the first mainstream smartphone manufacturer to introduce emergency satellite communication features to the iPhone 14 in 2022. Since then, the Cupertino tech giant has added new satellite capabilities, including the ability to send non-emergency messages via iMessage and the ability to call for roadside assistance through a partnership with AAA.
Apple

What are they?

Apple set the modern satellite smartphone movement in motion with the introduction of Emergency SOS via satellite on the iPhone 14. Initially launched in 2022 to contact emergency services when no cellular or Wi-Fi signal was available, the feature was groundbreaking—and quickly became standard across newer iPhones. But Apple didn’t stop there.

Over the last two years, the company has quietly expanded its satellite offerings to include Roadside Assistance via satellite, a partnership with AAA that allows users of in the U.S. to request help with things like flat tires and dead batteries when off the grid.

Is Vans Ditching Skate Style for Gorpcore Gear? This Sneaker May Hold the Answer

Founded in Anaheim back in 1966, Vans is one of the world’s most iconic sneaker brands. While the Off the Wall brand is deeply tied to Southern California surf and skate culture, it has also dabbled in other avenues.

However, one of the brand’s latest drops, the Vans OTW Old Skool 36 FM — a reinterpretation of the brand’s flagship footwear — could be a hint that the brand is evolving in a surprising direction.

Vans Old Skool 36 FM Shoes black and white
While not an outdoor shoe, the OTW Old Skool 36 FM takes a surprising number of cues from the hiking and camping industries.
Vans

Off the wall (and the trails)

Vans is no stranger to outdoor sneakers. The brand’s MTE (short for Mountain Edition) series — which saw some of its most beloved sneaker designs transformed for all-terrain, all-weather use — debuted over a decade ago. Now, the brand has a full line of all-weather sneakers, often made for hiking, camping and the like.

Furthermore, the Old Skool itself has recently been transformed into a legit hiking shoe. But that’s what makes the 36 FMs a bit different: they’re not outdoor sneakers.

These are lifestyle sneakers (meaning you’d wear them daily rather than for a specific purpose) — style pieces made for city-going. While the other shoes saw Vans’ signature skate style applied to outdoor activity, these see the reverse: outdoor styling making its way into a classic skate shoe.

Omega’s New Seamaster Is Surprising in the Best Way

I just can’t figure out what’s going on with Omega’s flagship dive watch, the Seamaster Diver 300M.

In 2018, the brand completely revamped the “Bond Watch.” Omega kept the same basic design cues from the ’90s while making the watch more contemporary with a larger case, a laser-etched ceramic dial, a ceramic bezel insert and a Co-Axial Master Chronometer movement visible behind a sapphire caseback.

That watch became an icon in its own right and remains in the brand’s catalog, unchanged, seven years later. But over the past year, it appeared Omega had been phasing out the ceramic Seamaster in favor of one inspired by the No Time to Die 007 Edition introduced at the end of 2019.

Last Year’s America’s Cup Edition had appeared to be the swan song for the ceramic Seamaster … but apparently not.
Photo by Johnny Brayson for Gear Patrol

The America’s Cup Edition, launched last summer, was the last new Seamaster that I know of to feature the old ceramic dial and bezel style, though the dial was a bit different with its waves in relief as opposed to laser-etched.

In the year since, Omega has debuted five new Seamaster Divers by my count. All of them follow the NTTD template with aluminum bezel inserts, aluminum-wave or waveless no-date dials, massively domed crystals, and come on either a mesh bracelet or a rubber strap fitted with a deployant clasp.

But over the weekend, Omega quietly dropped a new Seamaster that represents a surprising return to form, proving that the tried-and-true ceramic style isn’t quite dead yet.

A Legendary Ferrari Nameplate Might Be Set to Make a Return

Between the Lamborghini Countach, the Porsche 959 and the BMW M1, the 1980s gave rise to some of the most iconic sports cars in history. And that’s not even considering the many Ferraris that debuted during the decade; along with the legendary F40, the Prancing Horse also put out bangers like the Mondial and the 288 GTO.

Even with such a roster of impressive performance vehicles, few cars managed to capture the moment quite as well as the Testarossa did. Made famous by pop culture appearances in the TV series Miami Vice and SEGA’s Out Run video game, it oozed ’80s cool with its wide stance and striking wedge shape.

With its wide stance, striking wedge shape and — of course — pop-up headlights, the Ferrari Testarossa is a quintessentially ’80s sports car.
Ferrari

While for the past eight years, Ferrari has actually lacked the rights to the Testarossa name, a new trademark filing suggests the automaker might be gearing up to give the model a modern revival.

Trademark trouble

Earlier this month, an EU court ruling finally gave Ferrari the rights to the Testarossa trademark after a string of legal battles.

In 2015, a German toy company successfully argued that the name had gone unused for more than five years, causing the Italian automaker to lose the rights to its historic moniker starting in 2017.

Barbour’s Rare Version of Its Signature Jacket Is Ridiculously Affordable Right Now

Otherwise, this jacket features all of the key elements that have made the Bedale one of the most iconic garments, outerwear or otherwise, of all time.

It has a solid brass two-way zipper system (with a hidden trick), dual bellowed pockets with snap-flaps, a storm placket, armpit grommets for ventilation, a double vent back with snaps and an oversized corduroy-lined collar with a throat latch.

It’s a peach!

As the name implies, the OS Peached Bedale is made from peached cotton with a waxed finish. Compared to the standard Sylkoil canvas, it sacrifices a small degree of durability for a softer feel and matte texture.

Peached cotton is a 100% cotton fabric, canvas in this case, that has been fed through a machine with tiny spikes that rip up the surface on a microscopic scale.

The Coolest Thing About BMW’s New Superbike Has Nothing to Do With Its (Stunning) Looks

In the 60-second clip below, you can watch him zip up the hill with gusto. The GP shift pattern indicates the bike’s track-ready proclivities, while the working lights hint that BMW could be seriously considering a street-legal edition.

The high-pitched whine of this bike’s engine is downright gänsehaut-inducing. (That’s German for goosebumps.)

Meanwhile, the furious howl of the exhaust pipe provides a truly visceral world-class racing bike thrill. The way that it uncompromisingly announces this bike’s badassery makes it the coolest element, as far as I’m concerned.

Here’s hoping that whatever actual production bike might emerge from this project has something close to that spirited sound, noise complaints be damned.

Out from the Velvet Shadows: Maybach has Ambitious Plans

When people think of luxury car marques, it’s names like Rolls-Royce and Bentley that spring to mind. Perhaps Ferrari, Aston Martin or Lamborghini too. In Europe at least, Maybach rarely gets a seat at the same table. Yet both its heritage and its product place it firmly in the top tier of automotive prestige.

The problem for Maybach lies partly in its half-century production hiatus, and partly in the stop-start strategy of around a decade ago that did little to build confidence in the brand. But as Rolls-Royce embraces an all-electric future and Bentley stumbles tactically, an opportunity may now be opening up. Maybach, the most opulent arm of Mercedes-Benz, is preparing to seize that moment with a renewed product offensive.

The original Maybach marque was absent from 1940 until 2002, leaving much ground to make up. Its relaunch in the early 2000s was meticulously planned. At first behind closed doors, then publicly, with the Maybach 57 and 62 – their names referencing their overall length – designed to offer unbridled luxury atop S-Class mechanicals. The aerodynamic design and lavish detailing couldn’t quite carry the burden of expectation, and even a dramatic global debut aboard the Queen Elizabeth II, with a helicopter transfer to New York’s Financial District, failed to deliver the impact Daimler had hoped for.

Annual sales targets of 1,500 to 2,000 units (ideally 3,000) proved overly optimistic. At the same time, Bentley and Rolls-Royce were being reborn under the stewardship of Volkswagen and BMW respectively. Pre-war opulence was back in vogue – and Maybach was part of the conversation. Yet despite its mighty V12 engine and even the more assertive Zeppelin and sport models, the Maybach 57 and 62 failed to ignite. The issue wasn’t the engineering or the pricing, but the brand itself. For those already loyal to the Mercedes star, the S-Class represented the pinnacle. Anything beyond that was seen to belong in another world: one defined by Rolls-Royce and Bentley.

GTspirit MaybachVision 11

Eventually, the marque was quietly shelved, only to be revived again around a decade ago – this time as a sub-brand within Mercedes-Benz. The strategy shifted: in China in particular, Maybach models would be positioned distinctly above the standard S-Class, at noticeably lower prices than in Europe or North America. The plan worked. Today, the Maybach S-Class is a major success in China, even when fitted with humble six-cylinder engines that buyers there accept without concern.

But a foothold in China and modest gains in the United States weren’t enough for Daimler’s top brass, including CEO Ola Källenius and sales chief Britta Seeger. For years, they explored different directions for the brand. Now the strategy is taking shape. A Maybach version of the underwhelming Mercedes SL has emerged, re-engineered for comfort and with a softer, more indulgent character than the AMG-developed original. The range now also includes the Maybach GLS luxury SUV, the EQS SUV with electric drive, and a plug-in hybrid S-Class. Entry prices span from €170,500 for the S-Class to €243,000 for the SL 680 – still expensive, but no longer stratospheric like the original Maybach 57 and 62.

GTspirit MaybachVision 4

Compared to rivals, there’s still room to move upwards. A Bentley Bentayga Speed or Flying Spur Speed in Mulliner specification starts at around €300,000. A Rolls-Royce Cullinan begins at €330,000, and the electric Spectre adds at least €50,000 to that figure.

Among global luxury buyers, there’s little appetite for forced electrification. Many already own EVs elsewhere in their fleets. When it comes to flagship limousines, SUVs or grand tourers, what’s still desired is a V12. Bentley’s recent shift to V8 hybrids hasn’t been universally welcomed by dealers or clients. And Rolls-Royce’s all-electric pivot is being watched with caution. Maybach, by contrast, is planning to adapt gradually. The future S-Class will continue with combustion variants, and attention is now turning to an all-new model: the Mercedes VLS.

Premiering in early 2026, the VLS will capitalise on the popularity of ultra-luxury vans in China and parts of Europe. While aftermarket firms have already been turning the current Mercedes V-Class into pseudo-Maybachs to rival the Toyota Alphard, Zeekr 009, Voyah Dreamer and Denza D9, Mercedes plans to claim that market for itself from 2027 onwards.

GTspirit MaybachVision 17

The direction is clear in the Mercedes Vision V concept – a 5.48-metre study revealed at Auto China, previewing a Maybach version of the upcoming VLS. “The Vision V marks the beginning of a new era for Mercedes-Benz Vans,” says Thomas Klein, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans. “It sets benchmarks in design, comfort and immersive user experience, meeting the highest expectations of our customers.”

The ultra-luxury lounge-on-wheels features a 3.53-metre wheelbase, two reclining armchairs, ambient lighting and a vast 65-inch screen – all but eliminating the need for a separate office. But the Maybach van is just the start. A Maybach G-Class is also all but inevitable, especially given the muted response to the electric G and the desire to keep demand for the SUV alive through more exclusive variants.

From sport bikes, scramblers and retro roadsters to baggers, touring enduros and urban e-motorbikes, the gamut has truly been run.

While Suzuki and Triumph made major noise, the brand dominating this roundup is BMW, thanks in large part to some truly stunning refreshes for the 2026 model year.

Catch up on all the bikes you might have missed over the past few weeks below…

moto guzzi v100 mandello wind tunnel motorcycleMoto Guzzi

Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello Wind Tunnel

Perhaps no bike on earth manages to blend heritage and performance quite like this vivid red, uniquely branded tribute to Moto Guzzi building the first motorcycle-specific wind tunnel more than 70 years ago. Its liquid-cooled 1,042cc transverse 90-degree V-twin engine makes a robust 115 hp at 8,7000 rpm and 105 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm. The V100 is also the first moto to boast what the brand calls “adaptive aerodynamics” — two side deflectors deploy automatically once you hit a certain speed, protecting you from wind, water and adverse weather.

honda gb350 pearl hawk's eye blueHonda

Honda GB350

This moto goes retro not only in its general styling, which recalls 1970s Honda and Triumph street bikes, but also in its specific two-toned tank treatment, which channels a beautiful CB400 from the early 2000s. The engine is a 348cc air-cooled single cylinder making 20.7 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 21.3 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 rpm. With a weight under 400 pounds and seat height under 32 inches, it’s just about perfect for zipping around a city or on curvy country roads where 50 (s)miles per hour is juuust right.

triumph scrambler 1200 x matte khaki green motorcycleTriumph Motorcycles

2026 Triumph Scrambler 1200 X

Highlights for this Modern Classic include a fitting 1200cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, which makes a pulse-quickening 89 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 81.1 ft-lbs of torque at 4,250 rpm, plus Marzocchi inverted forks with 170mm of travel and Marzocchi twin rear suspension units with a piggyback reservoir and 170mm of travel. Throw in tubeless aluminum rimmed wheels (21 inches front, 17 inches rear) wrapped in knobby Metzeler Karoo Street Tires, Nissin caliper brakes with ABS and 7.2 inches of ground clearance, and this 503-pounder can tackle a variety of dry and wet surfaces.

triumph speed t4 motorcycleTriumph Motorcycles

2025 Triumph Speed T4

A product of Triumph’s ongoing partnership with Bajaj Auto India, the Speed T4 is essentially a scaled-back, budget-friendly version of the more widely distributed Speed 400. Now available with an eye-popping Baja Orange treatment, the T4 carries the same 398cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, detuned to roughly 31 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 27 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm, and traditional forks rather than the 400’s upside-down ones. It’s also a bit heavier (397 pounds vs 375) and higher-seated (31.7 inches vs 31.1 inches), but given the reduced sticker price, the T4 is an enticing urban-ready option we can only hope makes its way stateside one day.

Richard Mille x Brough Superior RMB01 Motorcycle 3/4 shotRichard Mille

Richard Mille x Brough Superior RMB01

Richard Mille is a brand best known for its horological projects. That said, the brand definitely has some measure of overlap with the automotive world (the brand just recently launched a new Le Mans timepiece). However, this collaboration with Brough Superior takes things to the next level. This 997cc bike, which is capable of 110 bhp, is inspired by old-school board trackers. It’s done up in a combination of aluminum and carbon fiber. And no detail has gone overlooked. Even the cockpit blends the two brands’ styles magnificently.

suzuki gsx-8t motorcycleSuzuki Cycles

Suzuki GSX-8T

While its aesthetic recalls the glorious Suzuki T500 of the late ’60s and early ’70s, the GSX-8T packs a power plant that is significantly bigger and more modern than that bike’s 492cc, two-stroke, parallel twin. This new roadster boasts the brand’s torque-y latest-generation 776cc 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC parallel twin, plus electronic ride aids include the Bi-directional Quick Shift system and traction control. With a curb weight of 443 pounds and a seat height of 32 inches, it’s nimble, approachable and ideal for zipping through city traffic and ripping two-lane twisties.

triumph scrambler 400 xc north america editionTriumph Motorcycles

Triumph Scrambler 400 XC

This 410-pound beauty hits a real sweet spot of price and power, led by its 398cc liquid-cooled 4-valve DOHC single-cylinder engine, which puts out 39.5 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 27.7 ft-lb of torque at 6,500 rpm. Don’t let its sweet retro styling fool you, either. This secretly quite modern bike boasts a ride-by-wire throttle for smooth, safe shifting throughout the power band. There’s no shortage of suspension either, courtesy of big-piston upside-down front forks and a rear piggy-back Monoshock, both of which offer 150mm (~5.9 inches) of suspension travel. The ground clearance is roughly 7.7 inches, which plays into a seat height of 32.9 inches, relatively low for such an off-road capable bike.

suzuki gsx-8tt motorcycleSuzuki Cycles

Suzuki GSX-8TT

Fraternal twin to the naked GSX-8T, this bike flashes retro racing flair thanks largely to the fairing, which recalls earlier Suzukis such as the GS1000S Wes Cooley Replica, the classic-looking pair of vertical stripes gracing both the fairing and tank and the colorful alloy rims. There’s nothing retro about the engine though. It’s Suzuki’s latest-generation 776cc 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC parallel twin, which makes 80hp at 8,500rpm and 57lb-ft of torque at 6,800rpm. That’s more than enough juice to dart through traffic and rip through twisties.

2026 bmw f 800 gs motorcycleBMW Motorcycles

2026 BMW F 800 GS

As attractive as the new paint job is, the bike itself — BMW’s second-smallest ADV — offers a ton of appeal for those just dipping their feet into all-terrain motos, including a base price just over half that of the R 1300 GS’s $20,275. While the flagship is obviously more of a beast in every single way, the F 800 GS is no slouch, thanks in large part to a new 895cc parallel-twin engine making 87 hp at 6,750 rpm and 67 lb-ft of torque at 6,750 rpm. Other specs and features seem very intentionally aimed at welcoming newer (and shorter) riders, including a manageable wet weight of 500 pounds and a stock seat height of 32.1 inches (with an option to go as low as 30.7).

2025 Can-Am PulseCan-Am

2025 Can-Am Pulse

It might seem surprising, but Can-Am’s 2025 Pulse electric motorcycle just took home one of the most coveted design awards in the world — and it was the only motorcycle to get the honor. Of course, if you look a bit closer at this naked EV’s stunning design, it becomes a lot more apparent just how that happened. This nimble bike has an outstanding modern form, alongside its 47-horsepower and 53 ft-lb torque output, making it an outstanding urban cruiser.

2026 bmw r 12 motorcycleBMW Motorcycles

2026 BMW R 12

Classically styled as it is, the R 12 still packs plenty of performance, thanks in large part to the 1,170cc boxer engine making 95 hp at 6,500 rpm and 81 lb-ft of torque at 6,000 rpm, which helps this 500-pound beast fly up to 126 mph. A related highlight is the Rock and Roll riding modes, a charming bit of branding that lets you lean into twisties like a racer (with the former) or reliably rumble down the highway (with the latter).

onyx rcr 80vOnyx Motors

Onyx RCR 80V

With a max power output of 18kW (at 91V) and a 3,600Wh battery, the RCR 80V’s 750W motor promises a 0-30 mph time of just 1.7 seconds, plus a top speed of 65 miles per hour. Meanwhile, the battery claims a range of 130 miles (in Eco mode) and can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 2.5 hours (and fully charged in 4.5 hours). Offering a huge selling point for urban dwellers, the battery can be easily removed and charged off the bike, which is pretty handy if you don’t have a garage and live in, say, a fifth-floor walkup.

2026 bmw f 900 gs adventure motorcycleBMW Motorcycles

BMW 2026 F 900 GS Adventure

As compelling as the Sage Green Metallic Premium Package is, even the base model of the F 900 GS Adventure offers potent features geared toward long-distance trips and off-road terrain. Highlights include an adjustable touring windscreen, adjustable upside-down suspension fork, protective aluminum undercarriage guard and robust 6-gallon tank. Let’s not forget what’s at the heart of it all: a rumbling 895cc parallel-twin engine delivering 105hp at 8,500 rpm, 68.6 lb-ft of torque at 6,750 rpm and a top speed of 120 miles per hour.

2026 BMW M 1000 XRBMW Motorcycles

2026 BMW M 1000 XR

What BMW calls “the lightest and most powerful production crossover bike in the world” just got even more compelling with its fresh new Aurelius Green Metallic paint scheme. The classy colorway makes it all the more shocking for bystanders (and smugly satisfying for you) when you twist the throttle. After all, that beautiful 999cc engine makes a beastly 201 hp at 12,750 rpm and 83 lb-ft of torque at 11,000 rpm, translating to a 0 to 62 mph time of 3.2 seconds — and 0 to 124 mph in 7.4.

2026 BMW R 1300 GS Option 719 BiscayaBMW Motorcycles

2026 BMW R 1300 GS Option 719 Biscaya

One of the best-looking and most capable touring enduros rises to another aesthetic level with this exclusive treatment. The first detail to meet the eye is the golden cross-spoked wheels, soon to be joined by the golden handlebars emerging above the deep Blue Metallic fuel tank. Specially milled aluminum parts include the hand lever, the cover of the liquid tank on the handbrake fitting and clutch lever fitting, the cover clasps over the spark plugs on the valve covers and the front pegs and foot levers. But don’t let these luxe touches make you forget that under it all is a 1,300cc boxer engine making 145 horsepower at 7,750 rpm and 110 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 rpm, just rarin’ to rip.

Bandit9 Ducati 821

The trouble with custom motorcycles is that, most of the time, there’s only one of them. Bandit9’s reimagined Ducati Monster 821 very nearly had that same fate, until the brand decided to put it into limited production. Now, this completely redesigned, hand-crafted and -polished beauty is actually available to buy. Don’t fret if you loved the original bike, either, as it maintains its bananas performance specs, like a 125 mph top speed, 0-60 time of 3.3 seconds and 110 bhp.

Diamond Atelier BMW R nineT Urban21 motorcycleDiamond Atelier

Diamond Atelier Urban21 BMW R nineT

Munich-based custom house Diamond Atelier upgrades a stock BMW R nineT with its super-limited Urban21 treatment, boasting a host of all-new parts. Already punchy thanks to a 1,170cc boxer engine, 10 lucky bikes get an adjustable Wilbers shock at the rear and upside-down forks up front, Metzeler Racetec K3 semi-slick tires, a Motogadget speedometer, Kellerman Atto Dark turn signals and an Arrow silencer. There’s also a Magura handlebar, Gilles rear sets and Spiegler steel braided lines, and individual buyers can request additional mods (for additional cash, of course).

moto morini alltrhike motorcycleMoto Morini

Moto Morini Alltrhike

This steel-framed bike boasts an off-road-tuned 450cc liquid-cooled parallel twin engine making 44 horsepower and 32 pound-feet of torque and capable of a top speed of around 90 mph, plus disc brakes, ABS and traction control. Ready for adventure, it rolls on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels wrapped in dual-sport tires, riding out the bumps thanks to a 41mm Kayaba fork with 208mm (more than 8 inches) of suspension travel and an adjustable rear monoshock.

Voge RR500S motorcycleVoge

Voge RR500S

True to its name, the RR500S packs an engine in that neighborhood: a compact 475cc inline-four making 76 hp at 12,500 rpm and 35 lb.-ft. of torque at 11,000 rpm — and redlining at 14,000 rpm. Voge says 80 percent of said torque can be accessed from 5,000rpm upward, meaning more flex than you might guess, and claims the bike can hit 136 miles per hour, pretty damn speedy for the power plant size. Even more unique, its exhaust valve can be controlled with the press of a button, as opposed to standard systems, where the valve opens automatically during aggressive riding.

Two Cult Microbrands Teamed Up for This Unexpected Military Watch

The vibes in the microbrand watch industry are, as the kids say, immaculate.

Although the hundreds of brands that make up the cottage industry are technically competing against one another, it often doesn’t feel that way. Most of the brands are run by watch enthusiasts themselves, so there’s a spirit of camaraderie between their companies that’s rare for any industry.

I know several brand owners who are friends with one another and who support and encourage each other’s businesses. (Just look at the Intersect Watch Show, which is collectively run by the owners of Nodus, Jack Mason and Formex.) A rising tide lifts all boats, sure, but the inter-brand support in the microbrand space feels genuine.

Sometimes, this support leads to legitimate collaboration, which is always a plus for the buyer, as it allows them to effectively get two great brands for the price of one watch. The latest example of this comes from two brands that, at least on the surface, could not be more different.

a vario x rze watch on a mans wrist
This isn’t your great-grandad’s WWI trench watch.
Vario x RZE

Worlds Collide

The two microbrands in question are Vario and RZE. Both brands are based in Singapore, but that’s really where their similarities end.

Vario specializes in vintage-inspired watches. And I mean really vintage-inspired. While a lot of brands draw inspiration from mid-century tool watches, Vario’s designs come from the first half of the twentieth century.

This Under-the-Radar Converse Could Be the Retro Sneaker to Rule Them All

If aluminum luggage, rare bourbon or one-off Red Wings don’t inspire a trip to Tokyo, how about some under-the-radar Converse sneakers?

As first reported by Highsnobiety, the company’s overseas division reimagined an archival model called the Road Machine into a lifestyle-leaning skate shoe that rivals today’s most popular retro sneakers, especially given how seamlessly it blends various design elements.

The Road Classic SK OX is a modern reinterpretation of an archival model called the Road Machine.

Stick the landing

The Road Classic SK OX boasts a mixed-material upper that combines canvas and suede, with paneling around the heel and toebox that’s reminiscent of the Adidas Samba.

Converse Road Classic SK OX
The suede paneling is reminiscent of shoes like the Samba, especially around the toebox.
Converse

On closer inspection, that fact is further reinforced by Converse’s decision to go with sawtooth detailing throughout the upper, a hallmark of the stripes found on old-school Adidas Originals models.

Converse Road Classic SK OX
Sawtooth detailing is a common retro feature, especially when it comes to Adidas Originals models.
Converse

That said, the Road Classic SK OX avoids being an all-out Samba dupe, with a tacky, rubber sole that follows in the footsteps of shoes like the Nike Killshot 2, giving it a leg up for use actually skateboarding.

Converse Road Classic SK OX
The profile of the Road Classic SK OX is more akin to the Killshot 2 from Converse’s parent company, Nike.

It may look like a lifestyle sneaker but the sole Road Classic SK OX is designed for skateboarding.
Converse

The only thing missing is notoriety outside of Japan, where the shoe has remained exclusive since launch. In other words, make sure your checked bag has some spare room for the way back.

Availability and pricing

The Converse Road Classic SK OX comes in half a dozen colorways, including Orange, Navy and Ice Gray, which are new for 2025.

It costs 11,550 Japanese yen, or roughly $78.

Patagonia’s Famed Black Hole Bag Line Is Adding a Versatile New Piece

Unlike its smaller sibling, this pack eschews the external rails on the handle side. In their place, you’ll find a pair of hideaway backpack straps. Yet, it still has the telescoping handle. Furthermore, it has a removable shoulder strap.

For those keeping score, that means you can carry this bag four different ways: on its wheels with the handle extended, on your back like a regular backpack, or by its suitcase-style carry handles. (Okay, five ways, since there are two carry handles.)

Patagonia Black Hole MLC Wheelie two colorways
Along with the all-black version, the MLC Wheelie boasts two other colorways.
Patagonia

Black Hole, son!

The 45L size of the MLC Wheelie was chosen for a particular reason: travel. More specifically, it was chosen because it means this bag meets the carry-on standards of even smaller aircraft.

In fact, that’s what MLC stands for: Maximum Legal Carry-on.

Even for Crocs, These Camo Clogs Are Bold

More than 20 years after the brand’s launch, Crocs seems practically unstoppable. Once decried as ugly, weird and only fit for the likes of line cooks and children, these foam-based clogs have become a genuine powerhouse in the fashion world.

While some recent releases have pushed their functional limits, like these outdoor-going rubber-bottomed ones, others have scooted further into the realm of streetwear.

The brand’s latest collaboration, the Aries Arise x Crocs Classic Clog, almost hits it from both angles. These camo clogs clearly have outdoor inspo, but they fit better in the city.

The meeting point between the city and Mother Nature inspired the clogs’ camo pattern and charms.

London clog

This is actually the second collaboration between Aries Arise and Crocs. This go-around, the product takes inspiration directly from the former’s birthplace: London, England.

More specifically, the styling of these clogs draws directly from late-night walks through the city, and they are styled to evoke the combination of the urban landscape and the nature found between the cracks.

This Compact Affordable Field Watch Is Faithful to Its U.S. Military Roots

Were you in “The Shit?”

Benrus was founded in 1921 and was one of the watchmakers who equipped the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II. After a major escalation in the Vietnam War in 1964, Benrus issued a new generation of field watches.

The bund is removable from the leather strap, and a green nylon NATO strap is also provided with the DTU.

Meeting specific requirements requested by the Pentagon, the DTU was updated to extend its service life. The watch is recognizable by its lack of insignia, a common practice for American equipment used in Vietnam.

The new DTU comes with two straps that match those provided to U.S. servicemen in “The Shit.” It comes on a leather bund strap, which was designed to prevent the steel watch case from injuring the wearer when exposed to extreme temperatures.

For those who are firmly anti-bund, like myself, Benrus also provides a fatigue green nylon NATO strap. The whole package looks and feels like something you might stumble upon in an Army-Navy surplus store.
