The North Face’s New Everyday Basics Bring Vintage Trail Vibes to Streetwear

Fashion or function?

Blurring those two camps has become the hallmark of many an outdoor brand, including runway darlings Salomon and Arc’teryx. But you could call the North Face’s crossover into hip hop and streetwear culture in the ’90s a first ascent of sorts.

For decades, the North Face logo has blurred the lines between technical outdoor gear and streetwear.
The North Face

Today, the Nuptse jacket is more iconic for its omnipresence in everyday life than its prowess in rugged alpine environments.

The same could be said of the Borealis backpack, not to mention countless pieces born from the brand’s high-profile collaborations with Supreme, Gucci and others.

With its latest lineup of everyday basics, the North Face isn’t being shy about its off-mountain appeal. That said, the collection of t-shirts, sweatpants and more still pays tribute to the brand’s rugged roots.

Could Mitsubishi’s Latest Trail Package Signal a Return To Its Off-Road Roots?

a photo of a mountain biker shown through the interior of a mitsubishi outlander
Though the Outlander Trail Edition comes with rugged all-weather matting, it doesn’t skimp on the interior experience.
Mitsubishi

In keeping with the package’s go-anywhere aspirations, Mitsubishi has also made some changes to the Outlander’s interior. All-weather floor mats come standard across all seating positions, and even the rear cargo area features rubberized protection to guard against mud and grime.

Of course, anyone who’s considering the Trail Edition will probably be hauling gear that’s too simply too large to fit inside — even with a folding third-row. To that end, Mitsubishi is offering buyers equipment like a Thule Caprock flat-rack roof rack, a Thule hitch-mounted bike rack and a host of compatible accessories like awnings and canoe mounts.

Whether you’re looking to bring along your bikes, kayaks or other outdoor gear, Mitsubishi’s factory-offered Thule racks have you covered.

Off-road aspirations

Now, even though the Trail Edition doesn’t come fitted with your usual off-road accessories (like a lift or a skid plate), this year’s Outlander does benefit from some suspension tweaks, and the package makes otherwise optional all-wheel drive a standard feature.

In the case of Mitsubishi’s Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system, you’re getting five distinct driving modes. By monitoring vehicle speed, ambient temperature, wheel grip, steering input and yaw, the Outlander’s driving characteristics can be tailored to everything from dry tarmac to slippery snow.

An Espionage Expert Helped Develop This Robust Yet Refined EDC Knife

You might not realize it, but the worlds of knifemaking and watchmaking actually have a lot in common. There are some obvious overlaps, like the materials employed — both rely heavily on robust metals, especially steel — but they also share elements of design, craftsmanship and history.

The upcoming Prometheus Design Werx x Watches of Espionage Birdwatcher EDC knife takes those commonalities to heart and magnificently blends them.

Of course, it doesn’t hurt that it was partly developed by someone intimately familiar with both worlds: a former CIA operative who now dabbles in horology.

Prometheus Design Werx

Tinker, tailor, soldier, spy

As mentioned, PDW Special Project Division’s collaborator in this knife is W.O.E. (Watches of Espionage), a blog and shop run by a genuine former CIA operative with a watch obsession. As such, it makes perfect sense that the knife is heavily inspired by spy culture and history.

For starters, the name itself is referential. “Birdwatcher” is a cheeky espionage colloquialism for “spy” — someone who collects intelligence and watches others.

Seiko’s Special Edition Speedtimer Collection Is a Retro Masterpiece

At first glance, it resembles a the 5 Sports automotive collection more than a Speedtimer, but the movement alone puts it well above Seiko’s entry-level collection. It is powered by the same caliber 6R55 automatic movement, which is seen throughout Seiko’s mid-tier Presage collection.

The obvious comment is that this isn’t a chronograph, but the internal bezel is an adequate low-tech mechanism for measuring elapsed time. It can mark a second, minute, or hour that something occurred or began.

In that regard, I think the SPB517 is actually a clever and novel addition to the Speedtimer family. It also has the coolest Datsun insignia on the logo, using the brand’s racing logo. It evokes a connection to one of the most iconic racing watches, the TAG Heuer Monaco.

Klipsch Just Gave Its Iconic Heritage Loudspeakers a Refined Upgrade

Klipsch’s Heritage loudspeakers are a true staple of American hi-fi. Dating back to the mid-20th century, they combine the brand’s signature horn-loaded designs with beautifully crafted cabinets made from high-quality hardwood, resulting in a look and sound that is truly unique.

Its Heritage line started in 1946 with the original Klipschorn — which still holds the distinction of being the longest-continuously produced speaker in history — but now features several other models, including the Heresy (’57), Cornwall (’59), La Scala (’63), Forte (’85) and Jubilee (2022).

Today, Klipsch continues to manufacture these same Heritage loudspeakers in Hope, Arkansas, just like it has been doing for nearly eight decades. Although today’s breed of Heritage loudspeakers has been updated with modern acoustic and aesthetic upgrades.

Earlier this year, it introduced new versions of its Klipschorn and La Scala loudspeakers, giving them updated drivers and crossovers. And now, while not as drastic an enhancement, Klipsch has revealed that it is bringing an aesthetic change to two of most popular Heritage loudspeakers.

This week, Klipsch announced that it will offer its Heresy IV and Forte IV loudspeakers in a new “Red Oak” finish, paired with a soft-gray heathered speaker grille. According to the brand, this “adds a contemporary, design-forward twist to the celebrated Heritage aesthetic.”

Both Heresy IV and Forte IV loudspeakers are also available in three other finishes: American Walnut, American Auburn or Black Ash.

Harley-Davidson Is Finally Making the Entry-Level Motorcycle I’ve Been Practically Begging Them to Try

It’s no secret that America’s most legendary motorcycle manufacturer has been hitting the skids lately.

Over the past couple months, flagging sales, LiveWire struggles and boardroom drama have seemingly made more headlines than, you know, actual bikes.

harley davidson x 440 duo
Could Harley’s upcoming sub-$6,000 bike look something like the X 440? It wouldn’t shock me.
Harley-Davidson

However, as the demand for more approachable motorcycles seems to be skyrocketing, the latest news from the brand has me feeling stoked about its future.

On a conference call with financial analysts yesterday, CEO Jochen Zeitz said a new bike with an MSRP under $6,000 will be unveiled later this year and available for purchase in 2026.

Considering the smallest and most affordable motorcycle the brand currently offers is the 975cc, $9,999 Nightster, that’s cause for celebration, as far as I’m concerned.

However, the new variant further ties the two together, considering the material makeup of both sunglasses.

Apart from its aggressive design language, the Romeo of old was unique for its proprietary titanium alloy, X-Metal — an innovation that pushed Oakley beyond nylon-based frames.

The Plantaris Ti also boast a titanium construction, and while the exact composition differs from that of X-Metal, the sunglasses can boast similar levels of durability, comfort and performance.

Prized in watchmaking and EDC design, too, titanium carries an incredible strength-to-weight ratio, making it an optimal choice for sunglasses designed for all-day wear.

Vans Premium Old Skool Mule Shoe

Vans has taken its most iconic skate sneaker and morphed it into one of the trendiest contemporary styles: the mule. The sneaker retains its classic styling, including its canvas and suede upper and signature side stripe, but it sees the heel lopped off for a more convenient, comfy and casual slip-on silhouette. It also still has its chunky, vulcanized rubber outsole with Vans’ waffle tread, but gets a more cozy Sola Foam ADC (All-Day Comfort) insole for additional cushioning.

It features an industry-first square HDR sensor and is capable of recording videos at up to 8K at 50fps, including 4K videos at 100fps — the brand claims that it sets a “new standard for video resolution in 360 cameras.” It can also capture 120-megapixel 360-degree stills. Additionally, the Osmo 360 has a super compact and lightweight body, weighing just 183 grams. And it’s compatible with several accessories (such as a battery extension rods, selfie sticks, mounts and lens protections), which DJI sells separately.

Aiming to make hiking more accessible, Osprey teamed up with Chantelle Shoaee (shown), a disability advocate and the executive director of Always Choose Adventures, to design a pack that delivers mobile oxygen support for people with hypoxia. (The condition, where the body’s tissues don’t get enough oxygen, can result from a number of medical diagnoses, including long COVID.) This particular Talon pack features a padded front pocket designed to securely carry the Inogen G5 portable oxygen concentrator (not included), plus Cannula routing ports to prevent tubing kinks and catching. It also boasts some beloved features of Osprey’s best packs, including dual zippered hipbelt pockets, side stretch mesh pockets, compression straps and a reinforced bottom so it stays upright when not in use.

Porsche Macan Turbo EV & Taycan 4S Cross Turismo Review: EV Life is Better Than Ever

Living with an EV isn’t what it used to be. And after a week in Porsche’s latest electric offerings—the new Macan Turbo EV and second-generation Taycan 4S Cross Turismo—I’m more optimistic than ever that the tipping point has arrived. No hypermiling, no app-juggling charger hunts, just proper driving in proper cars. Both delivered on their promise of over 300 miles of range, even when driven as if they were combustion-engined. In fact, I barely thought about range at all.

Collected from Porsche GB with full batteries, both the Macan and Taycan showed range estimates of 300 miles. In reality, that number was remarkably accurate. My driving style didn’t change: air-con on full blast, cooled seats in the Macan, and every horsepower used as intended. I didn’t precondition the batteries or nurse them to chargers. I simply drove.

The Macan, finished in stunning Copper Ruby Metallic with massive wheels that looked spectacular but gave the ride a slightly brittle edge, felt every bit the Porsche SUV it claims to be. Control weights were perfect, the seating position spot-on. Despite its 2.6-tonne mass, the Macan Turbo EV moved with conviction, thanks to its 630bhp twin-motor setup and sophisticated chassis. On the road to Silverstone, I stopped at a Porsche dealership to charge, but spent more time taking photos than waiting for battery percentage to climb. Later, a 400kW supermarket charger delivered 32kWh in eight minutes, jumping from 15% to 51%, with the cabin cooling me in 35-degree heat, massage seats and all.

The Taycan 4S Cross Turismo offered a different flavour: a more dynamic seating position, less in-cabin tech frippery, and a marginally softer ride. It lacked cooled seats, which I sorely missed during London’s heatwave, but its drivetrain remained characteristically sharp. On my 50-mile daily commute, a five-minute top-up at a fast charger more than sufficed. Even without home charging in London, I never once experienced range anxiety or inconvenience.

GTspirit MacanEV 11

The Taycan featured Porsche Active Ride, a new suspension system that quietly transforms the experience behind the wheel. Using high-speed hydraulic actuators at each corner, the system actively manages body movement, keeping the Taycan astonishingly level and composed—even during hard cornering or over poor surfaces. It enhances comfort, sharpens dynamics and helps disguise the cars’ weight. It’s also available with the latest generation Panamera.

That’s the real revelation. These EVs finally offer the ease and confidence of ICE cars, thanks to battery and infrastructure advancements. The second-generation Taycan uses a new 105kWh battery with improved cell chemistry, and the Macan’s 800V PPE architecture allows it to charge from 10 to 80% in just 21 minutes under ideal conditions.

GTspirit MacanEV 5

But not everything is perfect. At over £100,000 as-tested, interior materials in both cars didn’t quite meet expectations. Some touchpoints felt plasticky and out of step with the badge on the bonnet. As with many EVs, both the Taycan and Macan face tough questions around depreciation and long-term desirability.

Still, there’s no mistaking the Porsche-ness. From the way they steer to the way they hunker down into corners, these are true products of Weissach. That the Macan, now in its second generation and 1 million units deep, has evolved into something so advanced yet still recognisable is impressive. With these cars, Porsche proves that the future can be electric with next to no compromise.

This Sporty Automatic Dive Watch Packs Two Crucial, Frequently Excluded Features

The Ocean Fade is available with the original blue ceramic bezel insert, featuring a red zero marker that wraps around the bezel’s coin edge. This detail is a stand-in for Hanhart’s signature red chronograph pusher.

A new black ceramic bezel insert is also available, although it only comes on the Ocean Fade dial, not the original FreeFall Blue.

Two new rubber dive straps, a blue and a black, with folding clasps and dive extensions, have joined the collection. They are signed with the Hanhart script logo.

The red wrap-around zero marker on the dive bezel is a stand-in for Hanhart’s signature red chronograph pusher.
Hanhart

The Ocean Fade references add a touch of nuance and some variety to the Aquasphere collection, but they don’t fix anything that wasn’t broken. It is still a remarkably capable and beautiful dive watch for a brand’s first go at the genre.

Selling for just over $2,000, it is also an excellent bargain for the amount of watch that you get.

12 Features Automakers Are Quietly Cutting from Modern Cars

The inevitable march of progress means that the automotive industry is in a state of constant flux — each model year necessitates an update that addresses customer needs and improves on its predecessor in some way.

As a result, even technologies that were once considered novel or cutting-edge can quickly fall out of favor due to the arrival of something faster, shinier or more powerful.

In most cases, this ongoing cycle of innovation and obsolescence results in obvious and warranted changes (looking at you, carburetors, crank windows and car phones).

However, some features are far subtler in their disappearance from the market — you might not even know that they’ve become bygone relics.

Whether it’s something outdated, like a CD player, or something unused, like a spare tire, what follows are a dozen car features that are going extinct before buyers’ eyes.

1. Manual transmissions

According to the 2024 EPA Automotive Trends report, manual transmissions were included in almost 35 percent of new vehicles in 1980. However, stick shifts have accounted for less than 1 percent of all production since the 2021 model year.

a photo of a hand holding the shifter for a manual transmission
Car enthusiasts bemoan the death of the manual transmission, but automakers build what sells — consumers value convenience.

While the death of the manual amounts to a great loss for enthusiasts, it’s clear that most new car buyers prioritize driving convenience over the art of rowing their own gears.

LG’s Newest TV Looks like It’s from the Future

A picture upgrade

First and foremost, the StanbyME 2 is a better-looking TV. It’s the same 27-inch size as its predecessor, but it now delivers a higher-resolution picture (1440p instead of the original’s 1080p).

The smart TV runs on LG’s webOS and is powered by the latest-generation Alpha 8 AI processor. According to the brand, it can harness AI to detect what you’re watching and automatically enhance picture and sound quality accordingly.

A touchscreen that detaches

Like the original model, the StanbyME 2 has a built-in battery (which promises up to four hours of runtime on a single charge) and comes on a stand with wheels, allowing you to roll the TV from room to room and without needing a power connection.

However, unlike the original, the StanbyME 2 can be detached from the stand. You can then hang the TV on the wall, hold it like a tablet or place it on a surface. You can purchase optional accessories, such as a folio cover or a strap to hang it on a wall or stand it upright.

No matter what your natural proclivities may be, summer is invariably a season of getting out and having fun, especially on nights and weekends.

With that in mind, it could be prime time to update your street style, particularly your footwear.

Thankfully, brands have been releasing snazzy sneakers left and right, and we’ve been keeping tabs.

Check out some of our favorites from the past month below, and feel free to hit up our Sneakers Archive for even more sweet kicks.

Nike C1ty Premium

The C1ty Premium is an upgraded take on the base model, bringing tougher materials and an outdoorsy edge that effectively turns the silhouette into a retro hiker. The shoe showcases the same suede paneling found on the original C1ty shoe, however, it replaces the standard mesh with hardwearing Cordura for a tactical edge.

HOKA x MAAP Tecton X 2

Available in a signature “limeade” colorway, the shoe is built on HOKA’s acclaimed Tecton X 2 sole, featuring a parallel carbon plate that delivers a propulsive ride on varied terrain. Reflective detailing, inspired by MAAP’s technical cycling apparel, enhances visibility on and off the bike. Hot melt overlays and splatter paint details further elevate the shoe’s design, paying homage to MAAP’s instantly recognizable aesthetic.

New Balance 204L sneakerNew Balance

New Balance 204L

New Balance sneakers tend to fall into one of two camps: techy Y2K runners or dad shoes with retro flair. The brand’s next “it” shoe is a mashup of both worlds, stringing together two distinct eras of New Balance heritage into one fresh silhouette set to dominate the second half of 2025.

Adidas

Adidas Spezial Made in Germany

These sneakers feature upgraded suede across the upper, paired with a plush leather collar and more precise stitching than you’ll encounter on the Samba or even inline Spezial. What’s more, Adidas opted to endow this release with a simple blue-and-white colorway that will undoubtedly earn it a place in the history books as one of the brand’s best efforts on an unsung model.

Danner FullBore ID Hiking Sneaker profileDanner

Danner FullBore ID

The FullBore ID’s upper is made from suede and nylon, a classic combination that offers both stylishness and durability. Wedged between the upper and the outsole is a Danner Plyolite midsole, offering plenty of cushion to keep your feet comfy no matter the terrain. To take that a step further (pardon the pun), these sneakers also have a removable OrthoLite footbed to offer a little more comfort and support. And there’s a mesh lining to keep everything breathable, making these shoes great for summer adventures.

Adidas Chavarria Jabbar sneakerAdidas

Adidas Chavarria Jabbar Dress

The limited-edition Chavarria Jabbar Dress reimagines the evergreen sneaker as an upscaled dress shoe, complete with enhanced leather, waxed laces and a sculpted toe box that’s more pointed than the original. This variant also diverges from the classic Jabbar with a wordmark on the lateral side of each shoe. Interestingly, one reads “Kareem” while the others reads “Willy.”

Madewell x Reebok Club C 85 Sneakers profileMadewell

Madewell x Reebok Club C 85

Like its numerous predecessors, this take on the Reebok Club C 85s maintains a lot of the sneaker’s iconic details. This includes its tumbled leather upper, giving it a creamy off-white appearance. It also gets a rubber outsole, although it sees the midsole swapped for more modern, comfortable EVA foam. This version also has a terrycloth lining, which is soft to the touch and allows for them to be worn with or without socks while remaining cozy.

Unlike most other versions of the Field General to date, “Parachute Beige” sees the design take on a monochromatic getup that stands apart with its tonal upper, logo and midsole. What’s more, Nike went with a palette that places the shoe more in desert boot or Clarks Wallabees territory than anything resembling the Adidas Samba — its closest competitor from across the aisle.

Hoka x Supervsn Clifton One9

Introduced late last year, the Clifton One9 updates the super-popular and iconic Clifton with a TPU film overlay on top of the open-hole mesh upper, a slim, race-ready tongue, Hoka’s finest foam and a 32mm stack height. With this collaboration, that already compelling package gets three eye-popping yet elegant colorways: Mantis Green, Ice Grey and Neon Gold (which will get a very limited run of 99 pairs, making it the rarest Hoka ever made).

a pair of new balance sneakersHuckberry

New Balance 2002R Dark Juniper

This throwback to the early 2000s is a derivative of the 990 series, with a similar toe box design, but New Balance added the springy N-ergy outsole system. The upper has suede over nylon mesh panels. It sits on New Balance’s signature ABZORB midsole and has a heavily padded collar for support.

Nike Total 90 SneakerNike

Nike Total 90 Premium

Unlike the glossy uppers of Total 90s, this one gets premium material upgrades, utilizing a combination of leather and suede. Furthermore, the upper material is distressed out of the box, giving it a lot more character than its shiny sibling. Admittedly, this sneaker is probably going to be a lot more divisive than the Samba for a number of reasons. However, it’s a bold choice for Nike and could be a sleeper hit for those not afraid of a little originality in their style.

Vans Authentic VibramVans

Vans OTW Authentic Zip Vibram

First the first time ever, the Vans OTW Authentic Zip Vibram sees the classic design take on a Vibram Vulc Tank Tread outsole. This not only injects the classic shoe with extra traction and grip but increases its durability tenfold compared to standard Authentic models made with vulcanized rubber. That ethos also shines on the rest of the upper and midsole, starting with a higher-than-average sidewall and knurled rubber heel counter — not to mention a reinforced toe cap for extra impact protection. Casting its namesake attribute aside, however, the shoe’s most novel feature is undoubtedly its stretchy neoprene upper inspired by wetsuits and booties.

Adidas SL 72 SneakerAdidas

Adidas SL 72 RS

Quietly released on Adidas’s official website, “Aurora Ivy” and “Earth Strata” see the SL 72 adopt dark green and light brown uppers — two fall-friendly departures from the bright hues that traditionally adorn the retro model. That said, there’s more going on here than a simple color swap. Nylon makes way for a knit textile as the base material of the upper, matching the textured tongue while imbuing the shoe with late-summer breathability.

Converse Road Classic SK OXConverse

Converse Road Classic SK OX

The Road Classic SK OX boasts a mixed-material upper that combines canvas and suede, with paneling around the heel and toebox that’s reminiscent of the Adidas Samba. That said, the Road Classic SK OX avoids being an all-out Samba dupe, with a tacky, rubber sole that follows in the footsteps of shoes like the Nike Killshot 2, giving it a leg up for use actually skateboarding. The only thing missing is notoriety outside of Japan, where the shoe has remained exclusive since launch. In other words, make sure your checked bag has some spare room for the way back.

Vans Old Skool 36 FM ShoeVans

Vans Old Skool 36 FM Shoe

This design still resembles the original Old Skool sneaker in both name and style. However, many of its elements are a major departure from the classic skate shoe. And they’re largely drawn from the outdoor industry. Take the upper, for instance. Instead of a solid canvas, this shoe sees it swapped for a more breathable, mesh-like “lofted engineered-knit” cotton. It also sees the classic eyestays swapped for rubberized ones that connect to the sneaker’s signature side stripe. Speaking of the side stripe, this crucial element is also different on this shoe. Instead of a strip of leather, this version is a 3D-injected synthetic.

CRKT’s Robotics-Inspired EDC Knife Gets a Premium Italian Upgrade

All of [the Nucleus’s] stylistic flourishes also serve a purpose.

It boasts a futuristic silhouette and exaggerated angles. Yet, all of its stylistic flourishes also serve a purpose. The skeletal cutouts help reduce weight, while the beveled edges ensure the remaining material retains its strength and structure.

While the original version of this knife was already pretty exceptional, this new, upgraded take — in two colorways — makes it even better.

The knife boasts three deployments: back and front flippers and a thumb hole.
CRKT

(Italian) upgrade complete

The original Nucleus came with a 12C27 steel blade, a stainless steel handle and a G10 overlay. It was offered in a black and red colorway. However, all of that has changed in this new version.

Made in Italy, it now has a robust MagnaCut 3.23-inch modified Wharncliffe blade with a bead-blasted finish. However, it still has its trio of deployments: an oversized thumb hole and both front and back flippers.

It also includes another small but impactful feature missing from the waxed canvas version: waist tabs. First appearing on the washed-indigo denim version from 2024, waist tabs can adjust the fit of the torso to make it more flattering.

Rogue Territory has always been rooted in the cultural exchange between mid-twentieth-century American workwear and Japan’s twenty-first-century adaptation of it, making this evolution of the Supply Jacket feel logical and satisfying.

Although it lacks the durability and patina of a waxed canvas, the 14-ounce Japanese denim is tough as nails, and the ecru color has limitless styling potential. The Cord Collar Supply Jacket in 14-ounce ecru Japanese selvedge denim might be the new best all-purpose outerwear at any price.

Availability and pricing

Rogue Territory released a small run of this burly jacket on the brand’s website in 2023 and again this past May. Both times, it quickly sold out in common sizes. According to a social media post, this full restock is exclusively available from Stag Provisions.

The Rogue Territory Cord Collar Supply Jacket in ecru 14-ounce Japanese selvedge denim is available now from Stag Provisions for $348.

This Stunning Watch Shouldn’t Be This Impressive at This Price

The indices alternate between lab-grown baguette-cut diamonds and custom calligraphed printed numeral indices in one of two styles. One option features Chinese characters designed by Hong Kong calligraphy artist Elaine Wong, while the other offers Western Arabic numerals inspired by Chinese bamboo paintings and designed by artist Lee Yuen-Rapati.

Even the hands are impressive. They’re leaf-shaped, 0.45mm-thick, rhodium-plated and feature a frosted finish in their center with a mirror polish on their concave sides. The dial is protected by a box-shaped sapphire crystal with five layers of anti-reflective coating.

Unique Case, Unexpected Movement

Moving on to the case, it’s nice and compact at 38mm across, 11.3mm thick (9.05mm sans crystal) and 46mm lug-to-lug. The case is water resistant to 100m and is made from 904L stainless steel, the same grade used by Rolex for its Oystersteel, and features some impressive finishing — especially on the lugs.

The lugs are a unique detached design where two lugs are carved from the same piece of steel and then screwed internally into the case and secured from the outside with engraved bolts. Because they exist as a separate piece from the case, the lugs are able to be finished to a degree that wouldn’t be possible on traditional lugs, with Atelier Wen utilizing several different finishing techniques on all surfaces of the lugs.

How, Exactly, Is This New E-Bike So Much Faster Than Any Other?

While your typical e-bike battery charges at a rate of 100 to 300 watts, Morelle claims its battery can charge at a rate of over 1,500-watts.

Without getting too technical, Morelle’s 350-Wh downtube battery trades the standard graphite anode for a silicon anode with 10 times the energy capacity, the brand says, translating to a huge boost in battery energy density and charging speed.

Why isn’t silicon more common? It historically has a nasty habit of swelling and shrinking while in use, which negatively impacts surrounding materials and its own lifespan.

However, recent tech breakthroughs are addressing these issues, leading Morelle to says its batteries will be good for 1,000 superfast charging cycles, if not more.

morelle ebike charging
The logistics of fast-charging e-bike stations may be the biggest challenge Morelle faces, at least at first.
Morelle

While your typical e-bike battery charges at a rate of 100 to 300 watts (aka Level M1), Morelle claims its battery can charge at 1,000- to 1,200-watt (M2) and over 1,500-watt (M3) levels.

One lingering question is whether you’ll be able to hit those levels at home; Morelle’s plans to add e-bike charging hardware to existing Level 2 automotive charging locations cast some doubt on such a prospect, at least right now.

Apple Is Quietly Giving iMessage a Simple But Useful New Ability

After pasting the copied text, be it in another chat or in Google Search, you’re then forced to delete the excess text that you didn’t want. It’s not quick or practical.

But good news! With iOS 26, Apple is introducing a new “Select” function that allows you to highlight and copy just the specific text you want. Hooray!

iOS 26 iMessage update
Once selected, you can then highlight the exact text you want copied.
Photo by Tucker Bowe for Gear Patrol

To do this, simply long-press on the iMessage you want to copy from and, just like before, a drop-down menu will appear. Only this time, there’s a new “Select” option.

Once selected, you can then highlight the exact word or phrase you want copied and leave out all the rest. Then just tap “Copy.”

This works across both text messages and iMessages, and promises to be a game-changer for those who wish to copy things like phone numbers, addresses, landmarks, simple words …. or really anything in the confines of a message.

Patagonia Has Been Perfecting the Fleece for Decades. This Might Be Its Best Yet

The R1 Air combines hollow-core yarn and a unique zig-zag weave that serves a dual purpose. For starters, it’s incredibly lightweight and thin, making it as perfect as a solo garment as it is for layering.

Second, the structure was carefully designed to capture warmth when needed. Better still, it’s breathable when you need to cool off, and it’s quick-drying.

In short, it’s not just a hot box; it’s designed to be warm in the cold and cool in the heat, making it a serious dual-threat.

The fit has been improved in several ways, helping inch the R1 Air closer to perfection.

In pursuit of perfection

Now that you know what makes the R1 Air such a groundbreaking evolution of the fleece, you might wonder what’s different about this upcoming version. Much of what makes it remarkable remains — which is a very good thing.

However, in pursuit of making it the best it can be, Patagonia has made some seemingly incremental tweaks. But that doesn’t mean they’re small; these adjustments help inch it ever closer to being perfect.

Anker Nano Power Bank (MagGo)Anker

Anker Nano MagGo Power Bank

Apple still doesn’t sell a portable MagSafe power bank with a USB-C charging port, so Anker has stepped in. The Nano MagGo is a super-thin portable power bank with a 5,000mAh capacity that magnetically attaches to your iPhone (12 or later) and wirelessly charges it. It’s capable of wirelessly charging your iPhone at up to 15 watts, but you can use a wired USB-C connection to charge it at up to 20 watts. Available in four different finishes: colors: white, black, rose or blue.

Áigi Gruvebus

We have tool watches for divers, pilots and spelunkers, so why not one specifically built for miners? That’s the idea behind the Gruvebus from Norwegian microbrand Áigi, a watch that not only pays tribute to the coal-mining culture of Svalbard, Norway, but also was purpose-built for use in the mines. The watch features tritium gas tubes on the hands and indices for lume that is always on and requires no light to charge, while the case is made from quenched mining-grade steel, which is coal-fired and salt-quenched to make it 17 percent harder than standard 316L stainless steel. Finally, the unique dial texture was produced by pressing a piece of coal from the Svalbard mines into the brass dial and sealing the impression with lacquer. The Gruvebus retails for $929 but is available at a 20-percent preorder discount until August 1.

WESN Grow North Microblade

WESN’s latest special-edition Microblade evokes summer vibes thanks to a floral UV print on the front handle scale, which looks almost wooden but is in fact made of durable, grippy G10. Deployable via flipper tab or thumb stud, the blade is classic D2 tool-grade steel while the back handle scale is light but tough titanium. Adding to the exclusiveness of this release, limited to 200 units that will likely sell out fast, the knife comes complete with its own flower-festooned box as well as an antique brass coin featuring some badass beasties, front and back.
