The 2022 Lotus Emira Has Officially Been Unveiled

In May 2021, Lotus gave us a look into the future of the brand with the announcement of the all-new Lotus Emira. On July 6th, the company announced the full details on Lotus’s last internal combustion model.

2022 Lotus Emira Rear

The Lotus already has the configuration tool on its website to assist potential customers in building the perfect Emira. The online configurator allows potential buyers and dreamers alike to select exterior, interior, wheel, and brake colors. Last but not least, you are welcomed to select your choice of either a 3.5-liter supercharged V6 from Toyota with roughly 400hp or a 360hp turbocharged inline-4 that was made in conjunction with AMG. Those engines can be paired to either a 6-speed automatic transmission or a “6-speed manual with Torsen type limited-slip differential”.

2022 Lotus Emira Interior

How do you get your hands on one?

Per the Lotus website, you have the option to pay a £2,000 ($2,800) “priority fee”. Doing so will put you at the front of the line come the ‘Order Window’ period (beginning September 2021 and end in March 2022). But there’s one small catch – the priority fee is only for Right-hand drive models – otherwise, you wait like everybody else.

The Emira is a very special model not only because it’s the first Lotus model in almost 10 years but it is also the last petrol-powered Lotus to be released. And it can be yours for a measly £60,000 ($83,000) – a small price for such a striking piece of Lotus history.

The 18 Best Reading Chairs of 2021

The reading chair is a funny classification because it’s not really official by any furniture standard. When we talk about reading chairs, we mean seats that promote relaxation, security and protection from the demands of the world outside your book (including the harsh demands of gravity).

You could say the reading chair is the evolutionary high point of sitting down. A good reading chair is one you can stay in for hours and hours, poring through detective novels, newspapers or websites like this one. You could even watch TV in a reading chair — we’re really not sticklers about the term. It’s possible you have one already — one that you’ve been carrying with you move after move after move. But if you don’t, here are some more than worthy options.

1 Poäng Armchair

The Poäng is four decades old, and it’s one of the few early Ikea designs to enjoy popularity throughout every stage of the Swedish dorm outfitter’s long history. How has it lasted so long? While it’s not the standard of design excellence, it’s cheap, lightweight, good-looking and easy to care for — a much sought-after and unfortunately rare set of attributes.

2 Skiles Wide Armchair

Corrigan Studio

It’s plush, it’s inviting and it’s under $200. Find comfort in the Skiles chair, especially knowing you got a good deal on a great chair.

3 Book Nook Armchair

When you think about a reading chair, you may conjure up a tall, wide chair that takes up an entire corner of a room. They don’t have to be that. West Elm’s Book Nook chair is built for those of us without the square-footage to accommodate other options on this list. A simple wheat-colored upholster job covers a compact, pleasantly priced wood-framed chair. Plus, the armrests dip just enough to keep your elbows rested and a book squarely in front of your face.

4 Rivet North End Wood Accent Living Room Arm Chair

Rivet

Now 6% off

Rivet is one of Amazon’s in-house furniture brands and it’s vaguely mid-century modern. Amazon says that the pieces are “sure to turn heads,” which isn’t really true. The North End accent chair does the opposite — it’s the ideal corner reading chair for those who would rather keep it low-key, and there’s not a damn thing wrong with that.

5 Tuxedo Chair

The Inside

The Inside makes well-designed furniture at lower-than-retail price points. The chair looks as if someone took a box and carved out a little nook to sit in. For picky people, there are over 100 design options for the chair so it can fit your home design aesthetic. We’re fans of the tall arm height so you can comfortably rest your arms or lay your head.

6 Tia Velvet Chair

Urban Outfitters

Urban Outfitters surprisingly carries a lot of velvet chairs. This retro, ’70s-inspired armchair features an interesting curved base, so this reading chair doubles as an accent piece.

7 Gabriola Boucle Chair

Article’s curvy, deep=set reading chair  carries with it the relaxed and slightly weird vibe of the ’70s and ’80s. It’s also covered in boucle, which serves up a tidy opportunity to present some texture contrast in your living room. Or you could buy a sofa that looks exactly the same. It’s your living room.

8 Carlo Mid-Century Chair – Metal Legs

West Elm’s Carlo chair references the mid-century modern furniture zeitgeist, but isn’t the exact same chair that’s been reproduced by every manufacturer under the sun. Looking at the chair from the front, it’s much deeper and more narrow than it appears, imbuing it with a kind of sneaky coziness. West Elm also offers different fabric, color and leg options.

9 Penny Lounge Chair

Industry West

A chair you can sink into. Industry West is a newer furniture maker putting out riffs on many design eras. This one is mid-century modern, and is made from a walnut frame and a pair of cushions.

10 Oxford Weave Soba Armchair

Inside Weather

This boxy chair from Inside Weather offers an inviting place to spend your weekends. There’s a nice contrast between the wooden arms and the upholstered seating, and like all Inside Weather furniture, there are endless possibilities for customization.

11 Saic Quantam Rocking Chair

According to its designer, the Saic chair “traces the shape of the human body and allows you to become totally immersed in the chair.” The ergonomic design cradles your body, creating a safe space from the outside world. As great as the chair is for immersing yourself into a book, it works just as well to rock you to sleep.

12 Block Nomad Club Chair

Burrow’s club chair shares a lot of DNA with its sofa, which is one of our favorite ones you can buy on the internet. It’s easy to assemble, offers up an absurd level of customization, is priced well and, on occasion, goes on sale. Its style is plain, and that’s the point — the brand doesn’t make statement pieces, they make pieces that blend into what you already have.

13 Ardis Black Chair

I think it’s fair to say this chair is a vibe. Black poly-velvet, extra-wide with an airy and thin base, CB2’s Ardis chair provides some shape and material contrast to a reading nook.

14 Hai Lounge Chair

The Hem brand is the ideal marriage of high-end design and the online marketplace. Its furniture is beautiful, made with premium materials and designed by some of the brightest creative minds in Europe (it’s based in Stockholm); but it’s also much quicker about shipments, ease of assembly (and disassembly) and customer service than many brick-and-mortar design outlets. The Hai chair epitomizes this. A blend of mid-century shape and contemporary lines, it arrives fully built. It also comes in six colors with the option to add an ottoman.

15 New Standard Lounge Chair

In a memo sent to eventual co-founding partners Maurice Blanks and Charlie Lazor, John Christakos described an early vision of Blu Dot as follows: “I am still leaning towards smart design for middle-class America. The Shaker thing with the nineties twist, babe.” A couple decades later and the trio’s company has done just that — luxe design that doesn’t get stuck in the rhythms and pomp of luxe design. Available upholstered and in leather, the New Standard lounge sports wide arms, a loose cushion and wiry splayed legs. It’s essentially a throne for regular people.

16 Bram

Room & Board

The leather club chair is about as classic as it gets. Room & Board’s offering is more minimal than most — it can be dressed up or down and it looks good with furniture from almost any era. Room & Board also offers free design consultation, white glove delivery and makes the vast majority of its furniture in the US. Prepare for the sickest patina of your life.

17 Jack Chair

Schoolhouse

Schoolhouse makes good products. From the hardware and home accessories that made it famous to this compact lounge chair, everything is good. The Jack Chair’s low-slung arms and minimally tufted cushion is mid-century modern lite at its best.

18 Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman

Herman Miller

“This is the ability to select among the unlimited possibilities and return considerable richness to the world.” That’s how Today Show co-host Lee Meriweather captured Charles and Ray Eames’s ability to make old things new at the release of the Eames Lounge Chair in 1956. If there were a Tolkien-esque “one chair to rule them all,” it would be the Eames’s transcendent lounger. The 20th century’s answer to the 19th century’s club chair was designed to neutralize pressure on the lower back and mimic the look of a baseball mitt (leather folds included). It is unquestionably the most recognizable piece of high design ever conceived on American soil. The chair is made today in much the same way it was in decades past, but nowadays you get to pick leather colors, upholstered cushions, wood veneer finishes and more.

A Pro Cyclist Rode Almost 500 Miles of the Tour de France Course in Birkenstocks

The world’s premier cycling race, the Tour de France — or, more simply, Le Tour — is on. This year’s route links 3,414 kilometers of road through 21 stages across the country, from Brittany to the Alps and down the Rhône Valley and up to the Pyrenees before taking a turn northward and ending, as is tradition, on Paris’s Champs-Elysées. It’s a glorious slog that only the world’s best cyclists attempt…and one just rode several hundred kilometers of the route in a pair of Birkenstock sandals.

The sandals in question are Birkenstock’s Arizona Essentials, a version of its iconic hippy two-strap made entirely of EVA, a plastic with the feel of rubber. The advantage the material holds over the traditional cork and leather is that it’s far lighter and waterproof. On its website, Birkenstock recommends wearing them “at the beach, in the garden, or around the gym and after workouts.” Lachlan Morton, a pro cyclist riding for team EF Education-NIPPO, chose to wear his while riding his Cannondale SuperSix Evo across the width of France from Redon to Saint-Amour.

To be clear, Morton isn’t spinning along with the other competitors in the peloton. He’s riding his own “Alt Tour” in which he’ll forgo the aid provided by a support crew, skip the two built-in rest days and ride the entire route, including every transfer — portions of the course between the finish of one stage and the start of the next that cyclists cover by vehicle. Doing so adds more than 2,000 kilometers to Morton’s self-inflicted race.

It’s not simply a stunt, either. Morton is using the Alt Tour to raise money for World Bicycle Relief, which will use the funds to purchase bikes for under-mobilized communities around the world. (Donate to the effort here.)

lachlan morton alt tour

lachlan morton alt tour

Morton opted for Birks on his fifth day of riding to ease some knee pain. Reportedly, they “[worked] wonders” in that respect but gave him blisters — a problem he solved by cutting off the front strap with a pocket knife before riding 250 kilometers of hilly terrain.

On his seventh day of riding, Morton trashed the Arizonas, opting for a more traditional pair of cycling shoes before ascending into the Alps.

If there’s a lesson to be learned from Morton’s ride, maybe it’s that the generations of long-held traditions that form the foundation of a sport aren’t as impenetrable as they seem, that even an exalted contest like the Tour de France could use something of a shakeup, perpetrated by an insider no less. Ride your own tour, and, hell, you do it in whatever shoes you have.

Then again, maybe we’re just reading too deeply into all this. Regardless, Birkenstock’s Arizona Essentials are an ideal sandal for all kinds of adventures. Take it from Morton. (You can track him in real-time here.)

Shop L.L. Bean and Peanuts’ Collaborative Collection

Are there fictional characters more ubiquitous than Snoopy and Woodstock, the shining stars of the comic-strip-turned-pop-culture-goliath Peanuts? (Sorry, Charlie, Linus and Lucy.) They’re everywhere. And now they’ve ventured into the great outdoors via a collaborative clothing and accessories collection with Maine-born outfitter L.L. Bean.

“We are excited to launch this exclusive collection with PEANUTS that features beloved characters exploring the great outdoors,” Owen Kelly, head of product creation at L.L.Bean, says in a statement. “What better way to celebrate the joy of nature – and inspire outdoor adventures in young people — than through the eyes of these nostalgic icons.”

First of all: exclusive? If I remember correctly there was a Todd Snyder x L.L. Bean x Peanuts collection earlier this year? Was that collection simply a precursor? A way to test the waters before hitting send an a few thousand more orders of the stuff? Either way, this new evolution of the L.L. Bean x Peanuts line comes in at more than half the price of Snyder’s — although most of his collection’s 20-percent off now — and stretches beyond a few crewneck sweatshirts. Plus, it aims to accommodate the masses: there’s youth, men’s and women’s sizes.

There are 22 styles, each in various colorways and patterns, equaling 47 products in total. Some are as affordable as $14.95, while others reach a whopping… wait for it… $79. It’s a limited-edition-level collaboration with standard-issue-style sticker prices. Shop it below.

Jeep May Have Canceled the Hellcat-Powered Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is one of the most fun, flagrantly absurd SUVs on the market. It’s your bog-standard family Grand Cherokee, except track-tuned, packing 707 horsepower from its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 Hellcat engine — and built ready to rival Porsches. The Grand Cherokee Trackhawk can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. (It’s also at or near the least fuel-efficient vehicle on the road, earning just 11 mpg in city driving.)

But if you’ve been hoping to buy a Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, you may need to act fast. MoparInsiders is reporting that the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, as constituted, won’t return for the new WL generation. Per the report, Jeep had planned to have a Hellcat-powered Trackhawk version of the WL — but killed it as part of the brand’s (necessary) pivot toward electrification and better fuel economy.

MoparInsiders says there may still be a high-performance Trackhawk version, but it would likely be based on the new GME-T6 inline-six plug-in hybrid engine that Stellantis will be using as a replacement for its muscle car V8s. The top-spec of that engine layout is estimated to be around 525 horsepower. According to the report, that will be one of two PHEV options Jeep adds to the Grand Cherokee lineup; the SUV will also get the 375-hp 2.0-liter inline-four PHEV from the Wrangler 4xe.

Jeep axing the Hellcat engine Grand Cherokee is not too surprising. The electrified future is coming fast in the automotive world. Some of our favorite cars — many of them traditionally running on fuel-swilling V8s — will need to make major changes in the next few years to adapt. And at brands like Dodge, Ram and Jeep, which have done little to prep the way for electrification and EVs, those changes will feel particularly abrupt.

How to Connect AirPods to Your Apple TV

Did you know that you can connect your AirPods to your Apple TV? It’s an easy solution for anybody wanting to watch something without disturbing other people in the room. And now you can listen to content that supports Dolby Atmos and Spatial Audio, the experience of listening to your Apple TV is better than ever.

For the best possible experience, you really need an Apple TV 4K as it’s Apple’s only set-top box that supports Dolby Atmos content (the HD model does not). You also need AirPods Pro or AirPods Max, as they are the only two wireless headsets with the necessary sensors to take full advantage of Apple’s newest immersive technology, Spatial Audio.

That said, any headset that has Apple’s H1 or W1 chipset (meaning most of the latest Beats headphones as well as Apple’s regular AirPods) that’s paired with the Apple TV 4K can still play to Dolby Atmos content — it just won’t sound quite as good.

Finally, you can actually pair any Bluetooth headset to your Apple TV and listen to content privately. So, if you want to listen on your comfy Sony or Bose over-ear headphones — you can. The catch is that pairing isn’t quite as easy and it won’t support the same immersive sound technologies.

How to pair AirPods to Your Apple TV

There are two ways to connect your AirPods to an Apple TV. The first and easiest solution is if the Apple TV and your AirPods (through your iPhone) are linked under the same iCloud account. Make sure that your AirPods and Apple TV are running the latest software, then follow these steps:

• Make sure you’re either wearing your AirPods or the charging case’s lid is flipped open.
• Turn on your Apple TV and go to the Home screen.
• Hold down the Play/Pause button on your Apple TV Remote.
• Select your AirPods when they appear as an option on the screen.

How to pair AirPods to someone else’s Apple TV

If you’re trying to connect your AirPods to an Apple TV that isn’t the same iCloud account, it’s still a pretty simple process. Here’s what you need to do:

• Make sure you’re either wearing your AirPods or the charging case’s lid is flipped open.
• Hold the pairing button on the back of the AirPods case until its light starts flashing white.
• Turn on your Apple TV and open the Settings app.
• Select Remotes and Devices and then Bluetooth.
• Select your AirPods when they appear as an option, and then select Connect Device.

How to pair non-AirPod Bluetooth headphones to an Apple TV

It’s not as seamless, but you can connect any pair of Bluetooth headphones to your Apple TV and use them for private listening. Here’s how:

• Make sure your wireless headphones in pairing mode (the process will depend on model).
• Open the Settings app on your Apple TV.
• Select Remotes and Devices and select Bluetooth.
• Select your wireless headphones when they appear.

BMW Launched Its Last Old-School Driver’s Car, but With a Big Catch

The BMW 2 Series — descended from the iconic 2002 model — has been the enthusiasts’ BMW offering of late, perhaps the purest “ultimate driving machine” experience at BMW’s most affordable price point. The 2 Series Coupe returns as an all-new model for 2022, and with markedly more power on offer. It may even be the last of the old-school gas-powered BMWs before the lineup electrifies.

But it will not have one key element of that old-school experience, however. BMW is cutting the six-speed manual from the 2 Series for 2022.

BMW will begin by offering two versions of the 2 Series here in the United States. The base 230i will be rear-wheel drive and get a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four putting out 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The M240i xDrive will get a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system and a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 382 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The 230i xDrive and RWD M240i will arrive later. (If those outputs sound familiar, it may be because they are the same two engines used for the Toyota Supra.)

bmw 2 series

www.daniel-kraus.com

bmw 2 series

www.daniel-kraus.com

Like the Supra, BMW will offer both cars with an eight-speed automatic. BMW is keen to point out the cars will have shift paddles, launch control and an optional Sprint function that lowers to the lowest usable gear when you hold the left paddle. However, the transmission will also do decidedly non-purist things, incorporating route topography and traffic for optimal shifting. Like BMW did with the 3 Series, it’s still expected that the new M2 Coupe will have a stick shift option.

bmw 2 series

daniel kraus

bmw 2 series

daniel kraus

As for styling, BMW says the 2 Series Coupe’s “striking and athletic new exterior design is the first thing that everyone will notice.” It’s hard to quibble with that statement. BMW made the car longer by 4.2 inches, wider by 2.8 inches and lower by an inch than its predecessor. The design emphasizes the new dimensions with a “turbine style” horizontally-oriented kidney grille — which we might term mustache style — and more space between the A-pillar and front wheel arches. That extra space appears to have come from the rear of the car, which looks stubby and off-kilter.

Starting MSRP for the 2 Series Coupe will be $36,350 for the 230i version and $48,550 for the M240i xDrive. BMW says they will hit the American market in November 2021.

This Is One of Our Favorite Watch Dials of the Year So Far

Combining history, high-end watchmaking and multiple current trends at once, this is a watch that should get any horological geek’s attention: The Swiss brand Czapek & Cie. has partnered with watch enthusiast website Fratello on a limited edition version of its sporty Antarctique watch with a winning combination of its naturally compelling design and a green dial (and some other unique touches). It’s one of our favorite recent models in the popular genre of high-end steel sport watches.

For any budding watch nerds who aren’t yet familiar with Czapek, it’s the name of the watchmaker that co-founded the brand now known as Patek Philippe as Patek, Czapek & Cie. back in 1839. Czapek split with Patek to form his own company in 1845 that only lasted 24 years, but was re-launched in 2012 — and has quietly been a delight of independent watchmaking fans since.

The Antarctique is the brand’s take on the popular genre of “lifestyle sport watch,” with a steel case designed especially to fit its proprietary bracelet a là Gerald Genta’s classic Royal Oak and Nautilus watches. (This “integrated bracelet” concept has seen a resurgence in popularity, especially among higher-end watchmakers.) The stainless steel case measures a moderate 40.5mm wide and 11.3mm thick and houses the brand’s own SXH5 automatic movement with a microrotor. This is standard for the collection, but the new model stands out for its dial.

watch

Courtesy

The version of the Antarctique called the Passage de Drake has a cool dial texture dubbed “Stairway to Eternity,” and it usually comes in the common color choices of black, white or blue. Another way that the Fratello version feels particularly on-trend is that it adds a green “Veridian” variation with a pleasing kind of teal tone. A subtle difference from the rest of the collection is that the 12 o’clock Arabic numeral is here replaced by a double index — like on earlier models from the Antarctique collection — for Fratello.

Czapek doesn’t mass-produce zillions of watches: This limited edition will only have 50 examples, so you’d better act fast if you want one. For a little sense of personalization, buyers get to specify if they want a seconds hand in plain steel, with an orange tip or one that’s fully orange. In addition to the steel bracelet, the watch comes with a proprietary rubber strap, all for a price around $24,600 including European sales tax.

TEDS says its TEDPoP expandable rooftop tent can comfortably fit a family of five

Most pickup trucks or SUVs are enjoying the benefits of their horsepower and torque for overlanding. Additionally, the higher towing capacity allows owners to enjoy the creature comforts of more rugged camper trailers. As for the rest of us, TEDS is cooking up something cool for outdoor enthusiasts. This here is the TEDPoP – a rooftop tent that can accommodate a family of five.

Although there is nothing wrong with traditional portable shelters or sleeping bags, sometimes we just want a hassle-free alternative. This is where pop-up tents shine, but the TEDPoP is perfect for spots you can just drive and park. In other words, locations that are ideal for weekend getaways form the urban jungle.

According to TEDS, their product is supposedly the “world’s first pop-up dual expandable rooftop tent.” It seems all 691 backers of their Kickstarter project believe so and funded them way beyond their $20,000 goal. So far, it’s cool that you can pack it all in a sleek hardshell top.

This means you can just install the TEDPoP and leave it there safe from the elements and more. The manufacturer wants to make setup virtually effortless as much as possible. Thus, the folding support frames easily lift up with the help of condensed gas strut bars.

This mechanism also deploys the extension panels. You can access the tent via two telescopic ladders on each side. Inside, there is a 2.5-inch-thick mattress so you can relax in any position. Moreover, windows on each side provide a 360-view of your surroundings.

The entire thing measures 90 x 50 x 14 when closed and 125 x 50 x 120 when opened. Its ABS hardshell comes in white or black. Also, the polycotton canvas of the TEDPoP is available in three colors: Green, Gray, and Dark Wine Red.

How to Sell Your Clothes Online

No matter how much better you vouched to be about buying clothes you didn’t need or won’t wear, there are probably a few pieces in your closet right now you’d be willing to part ways with — for the right price. No, not all of your garments will fetch three, let alone five, figure amounts, but no one’s stopping you from trying. A little bit of time, access to a camera, the wherewithal to know who made your clothes and what you originally paid for them, and you’re in business.

But, keep in mind: first and foremost, reseller websites and platforms, consignment sites and thrift stores exist so others can capitalize on discounts on designer items, mass market mainstays and other deals. For sellers, they a promise extra income, even if you’re forced to part ways with something below retail. It’s also important to know that certain selling methods yield way less money than others. Also, there are avenues that don’t offer immediate payouts.

The research is half the battle; then it’s setting up your “shop.” Below, there’s a breakdown on the percentage of the sale you take home, which services charge fees, which cover shipping, what to sell to each and much more to ease you through the process.

Buffalo Exchange

Buffalo Exchange boasts locations in 17 states. (See which here.) Selling here is fairly typical for most thrift stores — well, at least for ones that source the items they sell instead of accumulating inventory through unsolicited donations. Right now, appointments are required but typically last no longer than 30 minutes. You arrive with the items you’re seeking to sell in tow, washed and untouched for the last 24 hours in a box or bag. The clerk sorts through it, assessing the condition of each item and offers you final value redeemable in cash, check or store credit. They seek in-season items — if you’re selling in summer, sell them shorts — but will buy most popular items.

Don’t Need the Extra Dime? Donate Your Used Clothing

If you’re someone who’s dedicated time or till to your wardrobe, selling the pieces you don’t want one by one might make sense. For others, it’s too exhaustive a process for the few dollars they’ll get in return. Plus, there are plenty of folks in need who’d benefit from receiving the clothing at a reduced cost, perhaps even free of charge. Yes, Buffalo Exchange, Plato’s Closet and a few others on this list, because you can set the price as low as you’d like there, lower the point of entry for potential patrons, but accessibility issues remain — like high-speed Internet. (14% of households earning less than $30,000 a year do not have Internet access; 9% of those making under $50,000 don’t, Pew reports.)

Unless you’re driven to sell because you could use the extra dollars, too, in which case reselling clothes could become a profitable side project, donating does the most good. Not only does someone get a gently used jacket or pair of jeans, but it helps excess material from entering landfills. Plus, you can itemize and value all of your donations. Just stash the paper receipts until tax season.

The Best Sheet Masks for a Weekly Boost

man wearing bro face mask

Jaxon Lane

These days, when you hear “face mask” it brings to mind a certain type of mask—one that rouses anxiety and surfaces pandemic-era stress. But there are the other types of face masks, of the skincare variety, that have quite the opposite effect. It’s the skin-soothing, calm-inducing sheet masks that work to firm fine lines, awaken skin, brighten complexion, and even cleanse acne-prone or oily complexions.

Sheet masks can do a variety of things, whether they target hydration or exfoliation, or provide some combination of these (and other) effects. They’re a terrific once-weekly (or 2x) addition to your regimen, almost like a targeted treatment for whichever goal you’ve got in mind. Think of them as mega moisturizers or pore cleansers — kind of like the topical masks you apply by hand (most of which are cleansing). These sheet masks typically use some kind of serum that settles into your skin over the duration of wear (typically 15-20 minutes), and that works correctively deep within the layers of the skin to generate results — some of them instant, some of them overnight, some of them part of a long-term skin-firming or -clearing strategy.

Individually you can find them for a few bucks, or in packs of 4-10, with prices ranging anywhere from $2-20 per mask (depending on the brand and the offering). Below are our most relied-upon picks, the best sheet masks for men, and for anyone, really.

Best Overall Sheet Mask: Jaxon Lane Bro Mask (4-pack)

We love many things about Jaxon Lane’s sheet masks (but the name “Bro Mask” not entirely…). First, its recipe is phenomenal, with moisture-absorbing hyaluronic acid, skin-brightening Vitamin C, nourishing Vitamin E, texture-smoothing niacinamide, as well as skin-firming peptides and hydrolyzed collagen. On top of that, these masks are separated into two pieces, so that guys with lots of facial hair don’t have to wear them all dangly over the face. You can use the bottom half, too, so don’t toss it. Just swipe it into your beard away (if you can reach the skin), or else target your neck, shoulders, hands, chin, jaw, ears, etc.

Best High-End Sheet Mask: SK-II Pitera Facial Treatment Mask (6-count)

SK-II’s secret sauce is Pitera, which is a nutrient-dense ingredient derived from a fermentation process. It’s chock full of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and natural acids, though SK-II is a bit mum on the exact formula, given that it’s practically liquid gold. That’s why these sheet masks are a few shelves higher than the rest, and why it’ll look like you paid for an expensive and instant-glow facial with each use.

Best Affordable Sheet Mask: Mediheal Sheet Mask Variety Pack (6-count)

Mediheal makes so many types of sheet masks, for a variety of uses, and this variety pack is a great way to try 6 of them at just $2 a pop. There’s one each for intense hydration, blemish control, lifting and firming, dryness relief, detox and brightening, and tightening. You can find your favorites and buy them in bulk, then deploy them as needed, when needed, without breaking the bank.

ZitSticka Press Refresh Hydrogel Exfoliating Sheet Mask (5-pack)

ZitSticka’s entire assortment is geared at keeping pores clear, whether with cystic-acne-busting spot treatments, SPF serums, or exfoliating sheet masks like these. The hero ingredient is salicylic acid, which seeps into your pores to dissolve dead skin cells and grime buildup, thus preventing breakouts. It also works in tandem with hyaluronic acid and allantoin to put your brightest, most hydrated, and very soothed face forward. (And it comes in two separate masks, for the bearded consumers amongst us.)

Cardon Charcoal Face Mask plus Beard Oil Application (4-pack)

Instead of breaking the mask into two sheets for the bearded guys, Cardon took things a step further and made a mask specifically for those individuals — and even included a beard-treatment oil packet in the top half of each vessel. This way, your lower half gets the targeted nourishment (for skin and hair alike) that it demands, with key hydrating oils like argan and jojoba, while bamboo charcoal detoxifies and hydrates the non-hairy half of the face (with skin-smoothing niacinamide and soothing cactus extract).

Wolf Project Hydrating Sheet Mask (5-pack)

Wolf Project’s moisturizing masks wow with a trifecta of key ingredients: complexion-smoothing niacinamide, pore-detoxing bamboo charcoal, and hydration-boosting hyaluronic acid. I like using them in the morning, on a day I have a big meeting, or the night before if I had a few too many drinks and anticipate a soggy reflection the next morning. My only strike against them would be that they’re a full-face sheet (like others on the list), so it’s hard to press into a bearded lower half. Still, that dangly lower half can be snipped away (up across the mouth line) and used as a wipe to hydrate other above-the-shoulder parts, like the neck and chin—and even the beard itself.

Spatial Audio vs Dolby Atmos: What’s the Difference?

Apple Music is officially a lossless music streaming service. As of early June 2021, subscribers now have access to a huge catalog of lossless tracks that are CD quality (16bit / 44.1kHz) and better (up to 24-bit / 192 kHz), which is a massive upgrade over the MP3-quality tracks that they were previously had access to. But it’s not just higher-bitrate tracks that Apple has brought to Apple Music subscribers — it’s given them access to more immersive tracks, as well.

Apple Music has started adding tracks that support Dolby Atmos and take advantage of Spatial Audio, both of which are immersive sound technologies. The combination of the two, according to Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and Beats, is the “biggest advancement ever in sound quality.” But what exactly do each do? And how do they work together? Consider this your beginner guide.

What’s Dolby Atmos?

Dolby Atmos is one of the most sought-after features for any new soundbar or home theater system. It’s an immersive audio technology that creates virtual height and side channels, which trick your ears into thinking that sound is coming from all around you — left, right and above — instead of just right in front of you. Essentially, Atmos makes it sound like you’re in a movie or at a concert — and it’s incredible.

What devices support Dolby Atmos? A lot. There are hundreds of millions of devices that support Dolby Atmos. And it’s not just home theater systems and soundbars. It’s built into PCs and tablets, game consoles and streaming sticks, smartphones, smart speakers, headphones and TVs. Dolby licenses Atmos as a software package to various
manufacturers (like Apple, Samsung and Sonos), which figures out what kind of system you have, whether that’s a 2.0, 5.1.2 or a 7.1.2, and then renders the audio so that it sounds best.

What’s Spatial Audio?

Spatial Audio is Apple’s own immersive sound technology that uses the various sensors (specifically the accelerometers and gyroscopes) in Apple’s AirPods Pro or AirPods Max to track the listener’s head movements. It then creates a virtual space based on the listener’s head and the device they are listening from (like an iPhone) so that it always sounds like the audio is coming out of that device. For example, if you’re watching a movie on your iPhone and AirPods Pro and you turn your head to the right, the sound will become more prominent in your left ear because it’s closer to the action (the iPhone screen).

What devices support Spatial Audio? You need to wearing Apple’s AirPods Pro or AirPods Max and listening from an Apple device that supports Spatial Audio. If you’ve bought an iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV in the past few years, it likely supports Spatial Audio; you just need to have it updated with the latest software.

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

What’s Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos

Spatial Audio can work without Dolby Atmos, but more times than not you’re going to be listening to content that supports both simultaneous. In fact, Apple designed Spatial Audio so that it works best with Dolby Atmos. The combined effect lets you take better advantage of the virtual audio space that Dolby Atmos creates by allowing you to move around in it.

In a nutshell, Dolby Atmos creates the effect of watching a movie at a cinema or listening to music at a live concert — the sound comes from all around you (center, left, right, above and behind) — and Spatial Audio adds another layer that makes you feel like you’re in movie or moving around at the concert.

When listening to music, you can turn your head to left or right and the vocals and instruments will become more or less prominent depending on where you’re facing. If you’re watching a movie on your iPhone or Apple TV, and a character is yelling on the right side of the screen, you can turn your head to the right and it’ll sound like they are yelling right at you.

What content supports Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos? You need to be wearing AirPods Pro or AirPods Max and listening from an updated Apple device that’s from 2018 or later. From there, any content that Atmos (or 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound) will be able to take advantage of the Spatial Audio feature. Most video streaming apps, such as Apple TV+, Hulu, HBO Go and Amazon Prime Video support some sort of surround sound technologies on Apple device. (Netflix only supports stereo sound on iOS devices.) Apple Music is the only music streaming service that supports Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos.
