The Bugatti Centodieci faces the Bugatti EB 110

Remember our article on the two unique Bugatti EB110 cars we published a while ago? Where we talked about probably the two rarest EB110 models in modern automotive history, a blue EB110S LM and a silver EB110S SC GTS-1 … two bespoke race cars built by Bugatti and based on the EB110 SS, only one of each were ever made, making each one unique on her own because they were built with a different purpose in mind. The blue car was specifically built for Le Mans, hence the EB110 LM naming, and she did enter the 1994 edition of the 24h of Le Mans, with a rumored power output of more than 700 PS.

Earlier this year the silver EB110S SC GTS-1 returned to a race track in Dyon after being dormant for 25 years, but not to compete, but to be part of a photoshoot, after that the car would join its blue EB110S LM in the UK, to be taken care of by the specialists at H.R.Owen Bugatti for their annual maintenance, and it seems they haven’t been returned to their owner’s garage just yet … Bugatti Automobiles had the great idea to take their new limited edition model, the Centodiece, which is an homage to the EB110SS, to the Nardò track in Italy and come face to face with these two bespoke built race cars from the past … a meeting of two icons.

The Bugatti Centodiece will be entering production in 2022, but before that happens the prototypes will be taken for multiple test drives, both on the open road, and on the track, and that’s why Bugatti returned to the famous Nardò circuit in southern Italy, a proving ground often used by not only Bugatti but many renowned supercar and hypercar manufacturers, this test track in Apulia has seen many prototypes roar their engines for final dynamic checks before going into production.

The 6.2-kilometer track at Nardò combines several right-left-right corners to be taken at high speeds that allow a perfect refinement of the chassis, this track is very demanding on both driver and car, that’s why it’s a preferred venue, but Lars Fischer, Head of Chassis Testing and Application at Bugatti, takes the testing even further by not only keeping the new Centodiece on the track, but also taking it onto the rounds around Apulia, to get a better understanding of the chassis tuning in real-world traffic, and on roads that aren’t as smooth as a race track.

A team of 20 engineers and drivers took the Bugatti Centodiece to Italy to finalize the new model, experts in chassis tuning and development together with engine, transmission, and bodywork specialists all work together during these grueling tests under the Italian sun, this allows them to verify the car’s performance under high outside temperature while taking her onto the high-speed course at Nardò.

The Bugatti Centodieci will be made by hand right at the atelier in Molsheim, this model is an homage to the legendary EB 110 and it’s also a symbol of Bugatti’s coachbuilding expertise, back in 1998, the EB 110 was a milestone on the road to reviving the Bugatti brand in Molsheim, and now they face each other on the Italian race track, but in nearly 30 years a lot has changed, the EB110 came with 610 PS while today the Centodiece will add almost 1,000 PS to that figure, while the EB110 didn’t have a lot of electronics fitted, the Centodiece has systems that alter the chassis dynamics in real-time.

But for Loris Bicocchi, who was already a test driver in the early 90s, and was effectively involved in the development of the EB 110 from scratch, the biggest difference isn’t the power output or the electronics … it’s the tires, the grip level of modern tires like those on the Centodieci is extremely high, he says, and this allows for high lateral acceleration, now Bicocchi is helping the Bugatti team to develop the Centodiece, especially the chassis setup … so he came full circle, working on the EB110 and now on that cars homage 30 years later.

But only a very select few will be able to enjoy all this hard work, Bugatti will only build 10 units of the Centodiece, deliveries will start in 2022, and they are all sold already … at €8,000,000 each, that’s about US$ 9,500,000 …

Plugable just announced a beast of USB-C charging hub that’s also pretty darn cheap. It’s called the USBC-HUB7BC ($49) and it has seven different USB-A ports, all of which can charge and transfer data (up to 5Gbps) at the same time, which very few charging hubs that are this cheap can do.

The 7-in-1 hub comes with USB-A (3.0) and USB-C adapter cable, too, so you can easily hook it up to your newer USB-C laptop or older laptop with a USB-A connection. Basically, it can work with any Mac or Windows laptop.

tech roundup

Plugable

It might be overkill for most people, but the other cool thing about the USBC-HUB7BC hub is that it’s designed to be stackable with other USBC-HUB7BC hubs. So you can easily buy two or three of these hubs to get an extra 14 or 21 extra USB-A ports, meaning you can charge a lot of devices simultaneously.

The only real downside of Plugable’s new 7-in-1 charging hub is that there’s no ports other than USB-A, so you’ll need an adpter if you want to connect a special peripheral such as a SD card reader.

The Plugable USBC-HUB7BC is available on Amazon right now for $49, but there’s a special $10-off deal at launch so you can pick one up for even cheaper.

Ram Is Coming After Ford, Rivian and Tesla With Its Own Electric Pickup Truck

July 8th may not be a particularly notable day for you, but for the folks over at Stellantis, it’s EV Day — the day when the multinational automaker reveals how it plans on joining the electric vehicle revolution set to take place in the near future. Dodge is going into electric muscle cars, but it’s not the only brand with a new electric vehicle on the way; Ram has promised “a full portfolio of Ram eTechnology” moving forward. And the centerpiece of that transition will be a battery-electric Ram 1500 pickup that will arrive in 2024.

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Ram provided scant details of what its battery-electric pickup will look like, only noting that the new EV truck will “push past what competitors have announced.” The body-on-frame EV platform that should underpin the new Ram pickup will have a range of up to 500 miles, though that will likely be an expensive, top-spec version.

Ram says it will have a “fully electrified solution” for most of its vehicles by 2025 and an EV in every segment no later than 2030. Note that this isn’t a commitment by Ram only to sell hybrids and electrics.

It would be surprising if Ram didn’t have electric and electrified pickups in the works. Having them will be a competitive necessity. Ford has an excellent hybrid F-150 at dealers already and gave us a ride in a prototype for the new all-electric F-150 Lightning, which has more than 100,000 reservations. GM has already unveiled the Hummer EV SUT and promised an electric edition of the Silverado. The new Tundra has teased what should be a hybrid powertrain. The electric Rivian R1T and Tesla Cybertruck are due to arrive soon as well. Those developments, meanwhile, are all happening in the wake of Ram unleashing the 700-plus horsepower TRX and its cartoonishly bad fuel economy.

Ram may end up being last to the party on electric pickups. However, as Ram proved with the sublime Ram 1500 internal combustion pickup, being last doesn’t really matter, provided you do it well.

Oakley’s Crazy New Shades Are Ready for Their Tokyo Closeup

Last fall, professional cyclist Chris Froome was spotted rocking a pair of previously unseen Oakley sunglasses during the Vuelta a España, a 21-stage Grand Tour race that winds around the Iberian peninsula. The sleek, all-black shades bore Oakley’s signature wraparound design but seemed to lack a frame entirely — and they included a unique extension of the one-piece lens over the bridge of the nose.

This past spring, Oakley finally revealed the mysterious shades, and with the help of none other than Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes: the Oakley Kato.

Now comes news that a special edition of the innovative specs are headed to Tokyo for the Olympics, which begin July 23rd — and to your face if you so desire. That’s right, the Oakley Kato with Prizm 24K lenses ($291) is available on Oakley’s site and in select Oakley stores. These particular lenses are designed to enhance color and contrast, enabling you to see more detail — almost like you are upgrading your TV from standard def to HD, but in real life.

As you may have noticed, the Kato is strange, mask-like and completely frameless. Oakley figured out how to get rid of the extra plastic and instead put frame-mimicking points of rigidity right in the lens — notice how the lens gets thicker and flares outward at the forehead, like a frame. Oakley says that building the glasses this way brings the lens closer to the face.

The Kato’s feature set doesn’t stop with the frameless design either. It has a place for rubberized nose pads that is seemingly stuck right onto the back of the lens and comes with three different sizes. Plus, its sidearms rotate, changing the tilt of the glasses to accommodate variations in face shape while maintaining the close fit.

Alongside Mahomes, Oakley worked with Mark Cavendish, Nigel Sylvester and Joseph Newgarden to fine tune the Kato’s fit. The fact that elite athletes will rock the unusual-looking shades in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics calls to mind the moment when sprinter Ato Boldon stepped onto the track at the 2000 Sydney Games wearing Oakley’s wild OVERTHETOP sport glasses.

It seemed as though Boldon pulled his sunglasses out of a comic book, and it was hard for cycling fans not to comment on Froome’s mask-like shades with references to Batman. They have the wrong superhero, though; while it makes no explicit mention of the character, Oakley seems to be referencing Kato, the Green Hornet’s masked sidekick, who Bruce Lee famously played on the 1960s TV show.

Editor’s Note: Anticipating that the masked-athlete look might be a little much, Oakley offers another version of the new sunglasses called the Kato X. Available at the same price ($291), this pair uses the same frameless molded lens design, but there’s no expanded nose piece. Without it, the Kato X more closely resembles the performance eyewear Oakley has been making for decades.

Dodge Is Taking the Muscle Car Electric by 2024

The automotive world is moving to electric (or at least, in many cases, electrified) power. That will mean wholesale changes at Stellantis — and the Dodge brand in particular, which more or less exists these days to sell V8-powered muscle cars. The Grand Cherokee Trackhawk looks like it will lose its Hellcat V8; indeed, that engine — and the other Hemi V8s — are likely to be phased out soon entirely.

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

But that doesn’t mean the end for big burnouts and crazy horsepower figures. Dodge had been promising a glimpse of what its future will look like on July 8th — and, as anticipated, the brand announced Thursday that will be making a hard pivot to electric power. Or, as they are relabeling it, “American eMuscle.”

The brand hinted at upcoming hybrid models, but they confirmed “the world’s first battery electric muscle car” will hit the Dodge lineup in 2024. Dodge did not mention whether the EV muscle car would carry a new name or an old one, although some play on “Charger” would make sense.

moto

The transition will be awkward. If you’re someone who is still buying a stupidly powerful Charger or Challenger in 2021, it’s because you love a classic V8 muscle car above all else. And there probably isn’t an argument that could convince you otherwise.

Dodge is framing the efficiency shift as an evolution, rather than a revolution. They argue — correctly — that the future performance pinnacle won’t come from internal combustion. The shrill-sounding, tire-shredding vehicles of the future will have at least some electric componentry.

Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis noted that “if a charger can make a Charger faster, we’re all for it.” He also made an incredibly canned-sounding pledge for the brand to “tear up the streets, not the planet.”

It’s not clear whether this reframing will work with customers, particularly the young, diverse audience Dodge says it is targeting. But for the Dodge brand to have a long-term future, it’ll need to.

Our New Favorite GMT Watch Costs Less Than $1,500

Rejoice, all ye fans of affordable GMT watches — we have another one for you. And it’s so cool that you’ll have to wear a sweater in July.

A collaboration between our friends at watch website Hodinkee and the fine folks at Unimatic, one of our favorite boutique watch brands, the H Series actually includes three watches — but the GMT definitely takes the cake: Housed in a 41.5mm case, it’s only 11.8mm thick (hell yeah!) and features 22mm drilled lugs for easy strap changing. Outfitted with the Sellita SW330-2 automatic GMT movement, it’s the first Unimatic to feature this travel-friendly complication.

HODINKEE

It’s also water-resistant to an impressive 300m, features ample Super-LumiNova lume on the dial and ships with a black cordovan leather strap as well as a single-pass NATO. Done up in signature Hodinkee grey, the U1-HGMT is outfitted with a 24-hour, unidirectional bezel and individually adjustable grey GMT hand for easy time zone changes.

Unimatic makes a handsome, highly legible watch, and it’s hard to argue with this one — especially at this price: the watch is $1,395 and ships in a hardshell, Pelican-style case. For our money, this is far and away the best GMT of 2021. However, should you be GMT’d out and are more in the mood for a dive watch or a simple field watch, the new Hodinkee X Unimatic collection includes those, too.

There’s the Uno U1-H, which features the classic Unimatic dive watch case and silhouette, here paired to a 60-minute, unidirectional dive bezel and the Sellita SW200-1 movement ($875). Peugeot 9X8: Le Mans Hypercar Revealed Ahead of 2022 Race Debut

Peugeot has officially unveiled their new hypercar challenger Peugeot 9X8, the model is expected to make its debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2022 (FIA WEC).

The new Peugeot 9X8 is powered by a hybrid power unit with all-wheel-drive transmission, the hyper-efficient prototype fits the Neo-performance strategy of the Peugeot and is a brand-driven project for the French car maker. It combines premium sporting with styling excellence as well as efficiency and technology.

The name Peugeot 9X8 blends with the notion of heritage, the ‘9’ refers to the icons of the brand such as the Peugeot 905 which raced from 1990 to 1993 and the Peugeot 908 which raced from 2007 to 2011. The ‘X’ refers to the hybrid powertrain and the all-wheel-drive technology whereas ‘8’ is the suffix number currently used on all the Peugeot model names from 208, 2008, 308, 3008, 508 and 5008.

The exterior of the new 9X8 prototype features front and rear lighting signatures in the form of three claw-like strokes, lion’s head logo at the front and sides of the car in backlit form, wing vents and Selenium Grey and contrasting Kryptonite acid green/yellow highlights of the body and the interior.

In addition, the interior features a combination of Peugeot color scheme and i-cockpit styling signature for a unique appearance and feel.

The absence of the rear wing on the 9×8 prototype is an innovative step from Peugeot engineering team, the absence of the rear spoiler provides a freedom to design a sleek silhouette, maximises the potential of the Le Mans Supercar regulations and the model is still able to easily achieve a high degree of aerodynamic efficiency.

The rear part of the vehicle is mounted with a 2.6L bi-turbo, 90-degree V6 internal-combustion engine with an output of 680hp whereas the front-mounted features a 200kW motor-generator unit, seven-speed sequential gearbox and a high-voltage (900 volts) and high-density battery.

Athletic Shoulder Replacement Surgery and Return to Sport

The first thing an athlete with a serious shoulder injury wants to know is “how long is recovery from shoulder replacement surgery going to take?” In the past, doctors often relied on generalized timelines to determine when to give an athlete the green light to return to sport. But today’s technological tools have changed all that. We now have the methods and the means to precisely measure the degree of healing, to ensure that individual athletes are not sent back to play before they’re ready.

Sports with High Incidence of Shoulder Injuries

Premature return to sport after shoulder surgery often leads to re-injury that can be career-ending for a competitive athlete. Athletes who are the most prone to shoulder injuries include:

  • Swimmers
  • Baseball players
  • Volleyball players
  • Golfers
  • Tennis players
  • Soccer players
  • American football players

Because athletes, in general, have a relatively small window of time to reach their competitive peak and play at the top of their game, post-surgery rehabilitation is crucial, and time is of the essence.

Factors Affecting Successful Return to Sport after Shoulder Surgery

Every athlete is unique, and a successful shoulder rehab program must be personalized and sport-specific. In addition, rehabilitation after injury and surgery requires neuromotor training that restores optimal communication between the brain and muscles.

Factors that influence the speed and success of return to sport include:

  • The athlete’s adherence to rehab training protocols
  • The skill and experience of the sports rehab team
  • Access to technological tools for measuring progress
  • Availability of advanced equipment for training and feedback
  • Personalized one-on-one training designed specifically for the athlete
  • The athlete’s level of motivation

It is critical to find a sports medicine physical therapist with experience in athletic shoulder injuries. Generalized cookie-cutter training protocols based on timelines that are not tailored to the individual athlete are insufficient to prepare an athlete to return to sport.

Common Types of Athletic Shoulder Surgery

Shoulder surgery can range from minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures to full-blown total shoulder replacement. The most common types of shoulder surgery include:

  • Bankart lesion repair. This procedure is done to mend a tear in the anterior glenoid labrum that rims the shoulder socket. Bankart lesions are often the cause of shoulder instability and frequent dislocations.
  • Superior labrum anterior and posterior (SLAP) repair. SLAP surgery is done to reattach torn labral tissues at the top of the shoulder socket. Symptoms of SLAP tears are popping sounds or sensations, shoulder pain and reduced arm mobility.
  • Rotator cuff repair. Minor rotator cuff tears will self-repair over time, but major ruptures can require surgery to reattach torn tendons to the bone of the upper arm. Rotator cuff ruptures are a common type of overuse injury.
  • Complete Shoulder Replacement. Shoulder replacement surgery is sometimes necessary after a serious fracture or in cases of advanced arthritis. In this lengthy procedure, the shoulder ball and socket are replaced with artificial parts.
What Research Says About Shoulder Surgery Recovery Time and Return to Sport

According to recent research, the majority of athletes who play sports on a regular basis were able to return to play after shoulder surgery.

One meta analysis reported the following data for return to various sports after shoulder arthroplasty surgery:

  • The mean rate of return to play for all sports studied was 80.7%
  • The return rate for golfers was 79.2%
  • Swimmers returned at a rate of 75.6%
  • Tennis players returned at a rate of 63.5%
  • Athletes who underwent reverse shoulder arthroplasty had the lowest overall rate of return to sport at 76.5%
  • Other types of arthroplasty had a collective rate of 80.7%

Another systematic review zeroed in on recreational athletes who had reverse shoulder arthroplasty, and reported the following rates of return-to-play:

  • The overall rate for all sports was 79.1%
  • The rate for golfers was 66.7%
  • Swimmers returned at a rate of 74.3%
  • Tennis players had a return rate of only 50%
  • Of all subjects studied, 71.4% returned to their pre-surgery level of play
  • The average time to return to play was 3.4 months

A third review and analysis that also focused on reverse shoulder arthroplasty reported that the mean rate of return to sport ranged between 60% to 93%, with a mean time frame of 5.3 months to return to play.

What to Expect During Shoulder Surgery Recovery

Depending on the severity of your injury and the type of surgery performed, the earliest you can expect to return to play is 4-6 months. Rehabilitation after shoulder surgery requires a combination of rest, sport-specific physical therapy, and a progressive protocol that gradually moves you toward optimal performance.

The rehab process can be broken down into 6 phases:

  1. Early recovery. In the initial stage of recovery after shoulder surgery, your shoulder will be immobilized with a sling for about a week to give it time to begin the healing process before you begin physical therapy.
  2. Begin physical therapy. Once your stitches and bandages are removed, you will report to your physical therapist to begin gentle range of motion and low-key strengthening exercises. You may need to continue to wear a sling as a protective measure against unintended movement.
  3. Resume activities of daily living. About 6-7 weeks in, you may be able to do basic non-sports activities, but your muscles will still be weak and your shoulder will still be vulnerable, so don’t overdo it.
  4. Build strength, stability and mobility. After about 12 weeks, your therapist will progressively increase your training load to restore muscle strength and optimal joint function. They may introduce some basic sports movements, but you won’t be ready to resume your regular training regimen. This is likely to be the lengthiest phase of shoulder surgery recovery.
  5. Prepare to return to play. Your therapist will continually test and document your progress, and decide when you’re ready to resume regular training. One commonly used marker is when your repaired shoulder regains about 90% of the strength of your uninjured joint. However, if your sport places greater demands on your dominant arm, attaining 90% strength of your non-dominant arm has less significance. Skills retraining and restoring optimal neuromuscular pathways is a critical component of this phase, prior to returning to play.
  6. Return-to-sport. Your therapist will work closely with your coach and trainer to determine when you’re fully ready to return to the playing field with minimal risk of re-injury.
Getting the Best Shoulder Surgery Rehab

Thorough and effective rehabilitation is key if you want to return to competition after a total shoulder replacement. There is no set timeline for shoulder replacement recovery for sports — it all depends on the condition and compliance of the individual athlete, the knowledge and expertise of the rehab team, and the attention paid to restoring neuromotor pathways, to optimize performance and prevent re-injury.

Look for a sports physical therapist who has experience working with shoulder injuries and post-surgical rehab. In addition, ask about which advanced treatment methods they use, and which markers they rely on to determine when you are ready to return to play.

You want to find a PT who offers one-on-one personalized rehab and uses quantitative data derived from advanced technologies to measure your progress. If the therapist bases your release solely on old-school timelines, look elsewhere.

Ultimae is the final Lamborghini Aventador

Automobili Lamborghini SpA unveiled their latest V12 flagship model, online at this time, but the actual car will make its official public debut at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed, called the Ultimae, this car marks the end of an era, with its full name being the Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae, it will be the final Lamborghini Aventador model, and also the last NA V12 in Lamborghini’s history.

After making V12 powered cars since 1963 with the Lamborghini 350 GT, and a car the automotive world marks as the first supercar in automotive history, the Lamborghini Miura from 1966, the era of the NA V12 engine will end in 2022 when the last of the 600 Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae rolls off the assembly line in Sant’Agata, Bologna. Lamborghini will be making 350 units of the LP780-4 Ultimae Coupe and 250 units of the Ultimae Roadster, for the first time they unveiled both models at the same time, each of these cars will be individually numbered, shown on a plaque stating xxx/350 and xxx/250 respectively.

It seems Lamborghini got inspired by the likes of the Porsche 911 GT3 with Touring Package, where you get the brutal power of the GT3 but without the large wings … a kind of ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’ look, understated but with extreme power hiding under those inconspicuous looks … and that’s exactly what this new Lamborghini Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae is, take the power from the Aventador SVJ, tune it a little to pump out 10 more hp, but use the Aventador S body without the ALA, Active Lamborghini Aerodynamics, and remove the rear wing.

The Lamborghini Aventador LP780-4Ultimae does come with the side sills and complete rear section of the Aventador SVJ, but the front bumper comes straight from the Aventador S, now with black painted sections and some ‘livery’ in color. And that’s also the case with the engine cover, which is the original unit we’ve seen from the original 2011 Aventador LP700-4, because the Ultimae doesn’t come with any ALA there was no need to have a newly designed front bumper, nor a bespoke engine cover … even the Roadster comes with the regular unit seen on the Aventador LP700-4 Roadster back in 2013.

For the Lamborghini Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae they did change the side sills a little, the intake that’s black on the SVJ version now comes color-coded to the rest of the body, but it does seem you have to go for either a black, a dark grey, or a blue lower section for the front bumper, side sills, and part of the rear diffuser … and the dark Blu Nethuns lower sections appear to be only available if you select the new Blu Tawaret … if you want your Ultimae to be all-out the same color you’ll probably have to convince the Ad Personam studio of your vision … and expect a hefty premium on the final invoice.

Lamborghini calls the rear section of their latest Ultimae a celebration of the SVJ’s track-oriented heritage, and they still call the rear wing part of the ‘active aero system’ as it can be set to three different positions from “closed” to “maximum performance”, and “maximum handling”, and there are even vortex generators created in the front and rear of the chassis’ underside … but it’s nothing like the ALA system found on the SVJ that works with flaps that could even open individually on the left and right of the car to improve handling in high-speed cornering.

“The Aventador LP 780-4 denotes the final, purest, timeless naturally-aspirated production V12 Lamborghini,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President, and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “It delivers the essential twelve-cylinder experience in terms of inimitable design, engineering solutions, and the most emotive driving experience, and is the definitive Aventador concluding an extraordinary era. It is the last of its kind: it delivers the maximum power and conclusive performance expected from Lamborghini’s current V12 engine, combined with our inimitable flagship’s design DNA. The Aventador was destined to become a classic from launch, and the Aventador LP 780-4 is the most beautiful expression of timeless design and technical solutions in a final edition: Ultimae.”

The Lamborghini Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae is the culmination of a continuing development over the last decade, it’s been 10 years since the Aventador LP700-4 took over the reign from the Murciélago, during those 10 years we’ve seen a total of 27 different models emerge from Sant’Agata using the Aventador carbon fiber monocoque chassis, from masterpieces like the Lamborghini Veneno, the Lamborghini Centenario, and finally the Sian, the first Lamborghini with a Supercapacitor to create a hybrid model, and let’s not forget the true one-off models like the 2012 Aventador J, and the two bespoke builds, the SC18 Alston and the SC20 … after more than 10,000 Lamborghini Aventador built over the last decade, the final curtain on this amazing supercar will fall next year.

Rumor has it the successor to the Lamborghini Aventador will be introduced in 2023, and it will be the first real production hybrid model from Sant’Agata, with the Sian being a very limited edition, the newcomer will officially be Lamborghini’s first car with electric power sold to the public, which will also mark the end of the aspirated V12 era for Lamborghini, this Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae will effectively be the ultimate Aventador, the most powerful yet, and also the last one using this kind of V12 engine, and while Stephan Winkelmann did confirm in a recent interview that the successor will still be a V12 engine, it will come with additional electric motors … will it be an evolution of the Aventador engine, or a new, smaller-displacement V12 unit isn’t disclosed yet.

The press release didn’t mention a price for this ultimate Lamborghini Aventador, but with the very limited production numbers, and the importance they are giving this end of an era model, chances are they will charge a premium over the outgoing Aventador SVJ, and make no mistake, this Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae might sell out quicker than you would expect, personally I think this model will be an instant collector’s item, for one because it’s the final Aventador … ever, but also because only 350 Coupe and 250 Roadster will be built.

If you put those numbers against a total of 600 Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce, 500 Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce Roadster, 900 Aventador LP770-4 SVJ, and 800 Aventador LP770-4 SVJ Roadster, this new Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae is a lot rarer, the only Aventador edition that’s even more exclusive are the 100 units each of the Aventador LP720-4 50th Anniversary edition coupe and Roadster, so I think despite the understated looks of this Ultimae, in ten or twenty years, this will be one of the most valuable Aventador ever.

Lamborghini Announces The Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae

The Lamborghini Aventador, in one way or another, has been around for a decade now. Throughout that time, it has had multiple special editions, one-offs, and has even had the ultra-high-performance Sian based on it.

Now, however, Lamborghini has brought out the Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae, which is in their own words “the perfect synthesis of the performance of Aventador SVJ and the sophisticated design of Aventador S, in a new definitive model produced to celebrate the iconic V12 super sports car.”

The Ultimae will be a limited series car, with 350 examples of the coupe, and 250 examples of the roadster built. And what a limited series it will be.

Power will come from the single most powerful V12 Lamborghini has fitted into an Aventador. Just about 780 HP will sing its opera through 12 Italian cylinders at the rate of 8,500 RPM, pushing the Ultimae to a 355 KPH (221 MPH) top speed.

0 to 100 KPH (0 to 62 MPH) disappears in 2.8 seconds without using launch mode, and 0 to 200 KPH (0 to 124 MPH) soars by in under 9 seconds. This is because, using the technology developed through the Sian project, the Aventador Ultimae will be made almost entirely of reinforced carbon fiber and weigh a scant 1,550 kg (3,417 lbs) dry.

The entire body is also shaped especially for downforce, with an entirely new front bumper/air intake area that guarantees front downforce no matter the speed. It takes cues from both the SVJ and the Sian, shaping the side intakes and skirts to also guarantee lateral downforce for ultimate cornering grip.

The ultimate reason for the Ultimae is, however, a bit of a sad tale. As the Aventador model lineup winds down, the Ultimae is the last variation of the raging bull that will carry the iconic 12 cylinders of Italian fury. Every new car from now on out will either be hybrid with smaller engines such as V8’s or even V6’s, or fully electric.

So, in a way, this is the last pure, classic Lamborghini… ever.

The Rimac Nevera conquers London

We’ve only just announced the remarkable joint venture between Rimac Automobili and Bugatti Automobiles a few days ago, and now we have a brand new milestone for the Rimac brand … for the first time in history the Rimac Nevera left her home country, Croatia, and came to the UK, conquering London in complete silence, the 1,914 hp all-electric hypercar has no problem entering the Ultra Low Emissions Zone in the UK’s capital.

The first trip outside of Croatia for this amazing hypercar of the future was toward the only official UK dealership for Rimac Automobili, renowned H.R.Owen, a household name among luxury motorcars, being the leading dealer group combining makes like Bugatti, Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, BAC, Puritalia, and now also Rimac, with the H.R.Owen flagship dealership located in Mayfair since 1927 … they have a total of six showrooms in London alone, with five more in other counties.

It isn’t a coincidence the arrival of the limited edition Rimac Nevera, only 150 units will be built for the entire world, happens days before the Goodwood Festival of Speed opens its doors for the long-awaited 2021 edition, the Nevera will surely make an appearance at that famous show, perhaps even take a stint at the hill climb, possibly even setting some records keeping in mind it takes only 9.3 seconds to reach 300 km/h behind the wheel of this hypercar, a time most family saloons take to reach 100 km/h.

London is also the first stop for the Rimac Nevera, after that she’ll go to Goodwood for the Festival of Speed, but once that’s completed the Nevera will go on an epic global trip to make over 20 stops in the upcoming 8 months, while she travels throughout Europe before heading to Asia and later the United States to visit the worldwide Rimac dealer network and make an appearance at some of the most renowned events so people can see this amazing hypercar in real life.

Ken Choo, H.R. Owen CEO, said: “Since meeting Mate Rimac and the whole Rimac Automobili team two years ago, we have believed wholeheartedly in their vision. To finally now see the culmination of years of development, with the Nevera finally in our showroom and on the streets of London, is a very special moment. Led by the Group Chairman of Berjaya Corp Berhad, Vincent Tan, H.R. Owen has built a reputation for extraordinary attention-to-detail in customer service, just as Rimac has perfected every small detail on the Nevera. It’s the foundation for a great partnership between our brands.”

We already know the name Nevera is taken from a typical storm in Croatia, very powerful and charged by lightning … when the storm hits it will be with exceptional speed and potency, something the Rimac Nevera mimics perfectly … this hypercar can change from a comfortable Gran Tourer cruising with ease into a fierce performance machine on four wheels … in the blink of an eye. I sure wouldn’t mind seeing the Rimac Nevera in real life during one of the stops she’ll make.
