After half a century, Oakley continues to blaze trails.

The brand recently announced plans to equip the next moon-bound astronauts with sun shields. And a new partnership with Meta may define its performance eyewear for years to come.

Looking ahead, its next release will stay a little closer to home. However, the one-off drop will still represent another first for the brand — even if it does reframe an iconic pair of sunglasses with three decades of history.

Back to the future

As part of a new collaboration with the Brazilian brand Albino & Preto, Oakley will once again reissue the original Eye Jacket from 1994.

The Eye Jacket was one of Oakley’s signature designs throughout 1990s and 2000s.

And while its sporty profile and signature curves will look instantly familiar to anyone who grew up in the 1990s — or has simply followed the brand’s collaborations with Satisfy — the Albino & Preto Eye Jacket represents Oakley’s first foray into a new category: jiu-jitsu.

While Oakley still sells an Eye Jacket called the Redux, it lacks the smooth curves of the original.

(Oakley previously worked with Albino & Preto on two hyper-exclusive projects that were limited to friends and family, but this is the first one available to the broader public.)

The sunglasses themselves sport a black frame and red logo that matches Prizm Ruby lenses, while two small flourishes courtesy of Albino & Preto separate it from a straightforward reissue.

First up is the brand’s signature logo, which sits on the bridge of the frames. There’s also a gray motif on the underside of the lens housing to match aspects of a broader collection.

Looking ahead

Beyond the sunglasses, the collaboration also includes apparel, ranging from a limited-edition gi to a complete nogi se that includes both long- and short-sleeved rash guards.

All components will be available for purchase starting Wednesday, September 3, from Albino & Preto and Oakley’s official website.

According to both brands, the drop will be followed by a “second chapter” in the future. That said, specifics around exact pieces and timing remain under wraps for the time being.
