Volkswagen is adding the sporty R-Line trim to the redesigned Tiguan crossover, which went on sale earlier this year. The R-Line package is meant to add exterior and interior design elements to the SEL and SEL premium trims of the Tiguan. It includes unique front and rear bumpers with air intakes up front and a diffuser finished in glossy black paint out back, body-color wheel-arch extensions and side skirts along with a choice of 19-inch “Trenton” aluminum alloy wheels for the SEL trim levels and 20-inch “Braselton” aluminum-alloy wheels for the SEL premium trims.
Inside, the R-Line pack adds stainless-steel sport pedal covers, stainless-steel doorsills with the R-Line logo, black headliner, and logos on the MIB II infotainment system start screen and the steering wheel itself.
Paired with the SEL trims of the Tiguan, the R-Line package will cost $1,795 and will include Rear Park Distance Control, while on the SEL premium models the pack will be offered for $1,495. The R-Line pack will be offered on this crossover starting in the first quarter of 2018.
The redesigned 2018 Tiguan went on sale late this summer, replacing a model that debuted all the way back in 2007. Powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and offered in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, the new Tiguan adopted a more wagonlike shape compared to the outgoing model. Positioned below the new Atlas, the Tiguan starts at $26,245.
