Mercedes-Benz Unveils Its Future Fleet Of All-Electric Models At IAA Mobility 2021

When Mercedes-Benz – like most leading carmakers – announced their plans for a greener future, we were eager to see what they had in development. Among the upcoming platforms that were in development, only the EQS was getting a lot of publicity. Now, we are finally getting a glimpse at its future lineup and it’s a thrilling one.

Although many of its contemporaries are already regularly releasing emission-free rides, Mercedes-Benz is approaching electrification carefully. Instead of just swapping out the traditional powertrain with an electric configuration, the German luxury marque is considering the features shipping alongside their EVs.

With every other automotive manufacturer subjecting their popular models to electrification, Mercedes-Benz is apparently doing the same. After all, there’s no reason to alienate longtime clients who typically prefer something familiar. So electric conversion appears to be the only feasible solution.

We got a preview of its all-electric fleet at the 2021 IAA Mobility expo. Among the machines that were unveiled, the Concept ECG made a huge splash. It manages to capture the beloved boxy outline of the G-Class 4×4 with lots of LED lighting to denote its zero-emission stand.

If it’s a sleek SUV on your mind, the Mercedes-Benz EQB should take care of that. After debuting the EQS several months ago, its high-performance subsidiary is joining the fun for the EQS 53 4MATIC+. Moreover, for a slightly more forgiving price point, there’s the EQE350 which boasts the best range among the sustainable sedans.

Finally, Mercedes-Benz caters to its most discerning buyers who demand something truly elegant. The Concept EQS Mercedes-Maybach is pure luxury from all aspects. The designers are carefully keeping the signature look of the brand. Of course, the interior shows us just how lavish an EV can go.

Afla Romeo Fan Will Love The GT Veloce Restomod From Emilia Auto

Alfa Romeo may be no longer on the same level as it was years before, but it remains a beloved marque among its fans. Those who ever owned one or still do will sing praises about its handling, performance, and design. Although the future of the brand is still in question, interested buyers should check out the GT Veloce.

This is not a new model but rather a remarkable restomod from Emilia Auto. Seeing as there are still people preferring classic silhouettes, they’re marketing a souped-up icon. The German establishment understands the appeal and thus approaches this build carefully.

Although it retains the old-school beauty, the GT Veloce tells a different story when it comes to what’s under the hood. The shop is taking out the original engine and replacing it with something more formidable. We’re certain it will meet or even exceed the expectations of discerning

For this project, they’re sourcing a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 from an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quradrifoglio. Dropping this in is thereby endowing the vehicle with about 500 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. Delivering this to all four wheels is an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

We can just imagine the surprise it brings to anyone foolish enough to look down on the compact ride. With the upgraded capability, it’s only natural for Emilia Auto to ensure everything holds up. Thus, The GT Veloce receives a new suspension system, a limited-slip differential, and Brembo brakes for good measure.

There’s also 19-inch custom wheels, vintage Recaro seats, a new steering wheel, and a sleek bodykit. The GT Veloce flaunts a sophisticated coat of crimson and Emilia Auto is only offering 22 of these magnificent machines at $470,000.

Driza-Bone x Mack Trucks Super-Liner: A Custom Big Rig Heading To Mount Isa’s Annual Rodeo

We’re no strangers to odd collaborations every now and then, but more eager to talk about some unique ones. One just happened to drop and it’s the Driza-Bone x Mack Trucks Super-Liner. Here we have an iconic Australian clothing brand, while the other is an American truck manufacturer. Despite their different markets, both are ready to promote their respective wares.

They’re doing this via one heck of a road trip starting from Brisbane all the way to Mt Isa to join the rodeo. This creative project is the brainchild of Driza-Bone creative director Justin O’Shea. This massive undertaking demands an equally-sized platform, which comes in the form of a customized Mack Truck Super-Liner.

In an interview, he claims the inspiration came from his childhood. Growing up in a mining community, trucks are a regular fixture. Those who have seen a Mack Truck Super-Liner up close have an idea of how gargantuan these can be. This 18-wheeler receives a blackout makeover that adds to its imposing outline.

Now, this is how you make an impact! With its towering size, you bet people will notice this hulking beast as it drives by. There are several towns along the way and the publicity it generates will be one-of-a-kind. Driza-Bone is recognized for its tough apparel which somehow matches the beefy ruggedness of Mack Trucks.

This 85-foot big rig is going for a stealthy style with its matte black palette. Instead of shiny chrome accents, the behemoth features hints of yellow which surprisingly gives the dark canvas of its body a nice pop of contrast. The Driza-Bone x Mack Trucks Super-Liner is a must-see for those at the rodeo.

Doosan Infracore Envisions A Fully Automated Future For Construction With Its Concept-X Proposal

At one point in our lives, we guys develop this obsession with heavy machinery. There’s just something so cool about seeing these behemoths going around and tackling challenging tasks. Given the sizes of these things, workers should always be careful around them. Therefore, Doosan Infracore proposes a cutting-edge solution they call the CONCEPT-X.

The South Korean company’s futuristic project is the recipient of the 2021 iF World Design Gold award. This recognition means that the equipment manufacturer is one to something remarkable here. What its proposal hopes to do to minimize the likelihood of workplace injuries.

This is where CONCEPT-X steps in to automate everything. Statistics show that even with safety measures in place and even in proper gear, injuries can still happen. As such, Doosan Infracore proposes an ambitious system that employs drones that fly over construction sites.

These then create 3D maps of the area and relay the data to the control center aptly dubbed the X-CENTER. The CONCEPT-X fleet features an excavator, ADT (adjective dump truck), and awheel loader. All of these are remotely monitored in real-time by drones and controlled by a proprietary program.

According to the Doosan Infracore, since there are no human operators, the machines can work continuously. This allows construction projects to be finished earlier than conventional methods. Also, a failure prediction algorithm should reduce maintenance costs.

From a design perspective, renders of the heavy equipment show sleek aesthetics. The CONCEPT-X fleet looks like something the guys over at Tesla might cook up. Perhaps this is what the construction industry envisions. A future wherein artificial intelligence and robotics are handling high-risk operations with minimal human intervention.

Two former Pininfarina designers present their first project called the Biancaneve

Have you ever heard the saying “there is beauty in simplicity” and thought about how it applies to design? Well, that’s what we call minimalism and it applies to almost anything you can think of. Over the years, people have embraced the concept of “less is more” which gives us jaw-dropping mechanical masterpieces like the Biancaneve.

This sleek and sexy build is the product of two Italian automotive designers: Gianluca Bartolini and Francesco Iannuzzi. They were both previously lending their talents to the legendary Pininfarina, but are now the heads of their own design house dubbed Dotto Creations. For their first project, we have this stunning custom 1997 Honda CX500.

They’re calling it the Biancaneve which means “Snow White” in English. We’re seeing a generous helping of black tones here to give the white bodywork some contrast. Another interesting aspect of this motorcycle is how it looks like a sculpture instead of a form of transportation.

According to the team, the approach was to craft something that would pass for a work of art. This theme should be applicable when the Biancaneve is both at a standstill or in motion. Thus, they give it a bespoke mechanism that opens to reveal an exquisite Alcantara and leather seat.

This gives the Biancaneve an aggressive stance when in use and retain a dynamic outline even when it’s not. After taking apart the donor bike, Dotto Creations was only keeping necessary components and discarding the rest. It seems like an odd process, but the resulting ride speaks otherwise. We hope to see them flex talents in more future builds.

Candela C-8: A Versatile All-Electric Speedboat With A Retractable Hydrofoil System

If head to the beach this summer, you’re likely to find people engaged in various activities. It could be sports, swimming, surfing, and more. Those who can afford it take to the seas on their yachts, tenders, or motorboats. If you plan to join them and prefer a greener alternative, why not grab the Candela C-8 instead.

This vessel also addresses another issue when it moves. As the hull cuts through the surface, it creates swells that could endanger smaller watercraft and people. Therefore, you can potentially ruin someone’s day when close to shore. Candela overcomes this challenge via a hydrofoil setup.

Even when cruising at high speeds, the C-8 is slicing through effortlessly and barely leaving a wave. Adding to the awesomeness of it all is appearing like it’s flying above the water. Even in rough seas, its hydrodynamic configuration makes it feel like a relaxing ride.

Candela is crafting the hull out of 100% carbon fiber which is impressively lightweight for its size. Moreover, this material likewise boasts an outstanding strength-to-weight ratio in contrast to glass fiber. Add to that the all-electric propulsion from its powerful C-POD motor.

Depending on the situation, the versatile C-FOIL system can retract up into the hull. This allows the C-8 to navigate even in shallow water. Depending on the conditions, the top speed should be somewhere between 24-30 knots. Its batteries give it a maximum range of more than 50 nautical miles.

It measures 27.9 meters long and 8.2 wide with enough space for up to 8 passengers including the operator. Intuitive controls from its 15.4-inch touchscreen and proprietary candela UI even supports over-the-air updates. Below deck, the C-8 has can sleep up to two adults and two children.

There’s no denying that there’s just something about older machines that remain timeless even today. We know some people like to purchase barn finds or even those in scrap condition and turn them into weekend projects. Collectors, on the other hand, would rather jump on professional restorations like this 1978 International Scout II Traveler.

At the heart of this restoration is a rebuilt 345-cubic inch V8 with a FiTech electronic fuel injection system. Feel it rumble and growl through the Flowmaster dual exhausts. The 1978 International Scout II Traveler is a set of 17-inch alloy wheels in matte gold with beefy all-terrain tires.

Piasecki Says Its Hydrogen Fuel Cell-Powered PA-890 Will Take To The Skies in 2024

It wasn’t long ago when we were talking about some of the factors holding back the adoption of hydrogen fuel cells. Although many of us think that battery-electric systems are more sustainable, the recharging process might not be entirely green as we think. Piasecki makes its stand with the former to power its PA-890 rotorcraft.

You might be wondering why this chopper sports wings on the fuselage. The manufacturer is going for a compound configuration. These rotate vertically up to 90 degrees to improve efficiency when hovering. During regular flights, they are positioned horizontally to minimize drag.

The powerful main rotor features four blades with torque counteracted by the swiveling tail rotor. This also provides thrust during forward flight. According to Piasecki, this dynamic rotor system of the PA-890 dramatically improves efficiency and range.

Moreover, the electric motors generate lesser noise in contrast to contemporary helicopters. This eVTOL will be capable of passenger transport as well as logistics. The manufacturer also envisions its use for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) applications.

The PA-890 should appeal to the commercial travel sector with its projected 50% reduction in operating costs. Piasecki is supposedly sourcing the fuel cells from Hypoint. The technology from the provider apparently promises four times the energy density of lithium-ion batteries.

Piasecki says its hydrogen fuel cell eVTOL is still in the early development phase. It will take some time to squeeze out the best performance and mileage given the limitations brought about by current systems. Nonetheless, a working prototype should take its maiden flight sometime in 2024. After certification, deliveries of the PA-890 should start in 2025.

With many brands regularly refreshing their lineups, the options are near endless. For those who own the FLB and FLS series from Phatfour, the Sidecar lets you share the fun.

Relying on pedal power alone with the added weight of another person and a sidecar is murder on your legs. Unless you are training for strength and endurance before a big race, attaching one to your bicycle is an odd choice. Anyway, the Dutch manufacturer produces capable e-bikes, so just let the electric motors handle the task.

On the other hand, you likewise need to pedal every now and then, but it’s not really a dealbreaker. The Phatfour Sidecar is not only for passengers but also for your cargo. According to the product page, you get about 150 liters of storage space for your stuff.

There’s also a wooden bench seat if your buddy wishes to join you. Just note that the Sidecar can probably just accommodate a kid, a small to medium size pet, and your groceries. Technically, it can fit an adult but they have to be really slim for a comfortable experience.

Renard Speed Shop Dubs This Jaw-Dropping BMW R 1250 R Build The ‘Reimagined’

A great thing about aftermarket customizations is how you can totally revamp the design and performance of any ride. Enthusiasts know that there is more to this hobby than just replacement body kits. For motorcycles, there are certain brands most garages love to work with. BMW remains a popular choice as you can see with the “Reimagined” cruiser from Renard Speed Shop.

For this bespoke build, the group starts off with a stock R 1250 R from BMW Motorrad. Most people would say that the donor bike already looks good as is, but Renard Speed Shop thinks otherwise. After all, why settle for a sport touring model that looks like every other one out there, when you have something more exclusive.

Dubbed the “Reimagined,” they’re reworking the sporty silhouette of the motorcycle into something with a hint of aviation elements. The 1,250-cc Boxer engine is already an engineering masterpiece, so they’re not messing around with it. Thus, the spec sheet would still hold at 136 horsepower with 105 lb-ft of torque.

BMW’s variable camshaft control (ShiftCam) technology will ensure riders can squeeze out everything the power plant can offer. Renard Speed Shop endows the R 1250 R with a new fuel tank and body panels handmade from aluminum. Next are the triple tree fork and front grille which were CNC-milled from solid aluminum blocks.

We also love the front suspension covers, which have been 3D printed with remarkable precision. There’s also a stacked pair of round headlights and a new bobber-style seat with an integrated taillight. The “Reimagined” sits on a pair of spoked Jonich Wheels and boasts titanium Akrapovič mufflers sourced from a Ducati Panigale Superleggera.

Before The Premiere Of ‘No Time To Die’ Land Rover Teases The Defender V8 Bond Edition

It has been barely a few days since we featured an electric conversion of a Land Rover Series IIA. It looks there’s more to be happy about when you’re a big fan of the renowned British marque and 007. We’re getting a bold collaboration between the two in the form of the Defender V8 Bond Edition.

After what seems like an eternity of waiting, we’re finally close to the premiere of No Time To Die. The film was pushed back due to several factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the departure of director Danny Boyle. Perhaps there is something good that came out of the delay.

Nonetheless, the hype surrounding it never waned, which goes to show people are still eager to see it. To drum up even more publicity, Land Rover cashes in on the 25th installment of the long-running spy franchise. The Defender V8 Bond Edition is the ultimate tribute collectors will soon have in their garages.

Aston Martin might have the leading role here, but you can’t ignore how classy this SUV is. Just like the Q Division developing the latest tools for 007’s mission, the carmaker’s SVO Bespoke team is imbuing Defender V8 with exclusive elements.

They’re giving it a beautiful blackout theme with only a hint of Xenon Blue from the brake calipers on the front pair of Luna Gloss Black alloy wheels. Then there’s the 007 badging in gold to remind us of Land Rover’s partnership with the legendary secret agent. The man himself will surely approve of their work.

To get out of a tight spot, the Land Rover Defender V8 Bond Edition is not lacking under the hood. A supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox supplies 518 horsepower and 461 lb-ft of torque.

LEGO Surprises Batman Fans With The 2,049-Piece Tumbler Model Kit

Many of us here can fondly recall when the Batmobile from Tim Burton’s Batman made its debut. It was perhaps the coolest version of the Caped Crusader’s mainstay machine and remains as so for a lot of fans. However, Christopher Nolan’s darker and grittier take introduced something even more badass. Now, LEGO finally issues an official kit of the Tumbler.

When they said Batman’s new ride was built like a tank, they weren’t kidding. Its first scene shows us a military-inspired prototype with a coat of desert camo being tested by Bruce Wayne along with Lucius Fox. The Tumbler eventually dons its signature blackout colorway and the rest is history.

LEGO now gives us the opportunity to build this behemoth and show it off. Those who crave a challenge have 2,049 pieces to work with which will please even the most hardcore of hobbyists. As with any set from the Danish toymaker, the detailed illustrated instructions make assembly a breeze.

Once completed, the Tumbler measures 17” x 9” x 6” (L x W x H) and includes a display base to keep it stylish. In the box, you’ll also find two minifigures of Batman and The Joker with their own display stand. To access the interior, just pop open the roof and view the control panel and seats.

So far, our only gripe here is the missing Bat-Pod unit, which is not really a dealbreaker. Maybe LEGO will feature it on a future version of the Tumbler or maybe as a standalone kit. The set drops on November 1, 2021, which makes it a great gift for Batman fans this holiday.

With the help of Land Rover specialists, this all-electric Series IIA is as fresh as the day it rolled out of the factory.

Lopifit: A Hybrid Sustainable Ride That Crosses A Treadmill With An Electric Bicycle

With almost everybody jumping on the hype surrounding cycling amid the pandemic, other urban mobility solutions are quickly losing their appeal. Perhaps what the manufacturers need is something new, unique, and maybe with a helping of quirkiness. A good example would be the Lopifit – a clever hybrid of an electric bicycle and a treadmill.

Come on! It’s too far into 2021 for this to be an April Fools’ Day joke. At first, we were skeptical ourselves, but this seems to be the real deal. For people who equally love to walk and cycle, this might be the perfect commercially available platform.

What looks like a stand-up scooter actually packs a different type of propulsion system. Taking the drive system used by electric bicycles, the Lopifit integrates a treadmill instead of pedals. Basically, you are still using your legs and feet to move it, but by walking.

Just like a non-motorized treadmill, your movements turn the wheels. Even at the pace of a leisurely stroll (3 miles per hour), the Lopifit can reach speeds of up to 20 miles per hour. Except for the treadmill section, everything else resembles an average bicycle.

It packs a high-capacity LG battery unit to power the Bafang electric motor. A full charge boasts a range of 50 miles but will vary depending on how users drive it. We hope to see more sustainable approaches like this.

Disc brakes provide the stopping power you need just in case. We think it’s a cool way to get some exercise. Just note that aboard the Lopifit, you will draw the odd stare every now and then. Nevertheless, what matters is the fun experience.

Singer Reimagined Presents The Highly Exclusive Track1 DLS Edition Chronograph

When you count yourself as one of the fortunate few who now own one of the 75 planned restorations dubbed the Singer Vehicle Design Dynamics and Lightweighting Study (DLS), Singer Reimagined has something cool in mind To match your classy Porsche 911, the brand’s watchmaking arm presents the Track1 DLS Edition.

Talk about exclusivity here, as not just anyone can grab this snazzy timepiece. As for the pricing, Singer Reimagined Is keeping that under wraps. Anyway, only the owners of the highly limited resto-mod can purchase the chronograph in the first place. So, let’s hope they spill the beans when the time comes.

For now, let’s get the know the Track1 DLS Edition and check out what it brings to the table. Starting with the forged carbon pilot-style case, it measures 43 mm x 15 mm including the sapphire crystal. As you can see, there are cutouts close to the lugs to shave off some weight.

The dark composite material then gets some contrast from polished grade 5 titanium hardware. You’ll find it on the bezel, case back, crown and pushers. The gray dial shows vertical brush patterns and hands in black/orange. Initially, we were puzzled as to how its chronograph functions work.

If you look closely, Singer Reimagined uses the outer rings to tell the hour and minutes. As for the central three hands, these are for the chronograph. The Track1 DLS Edition runs on a Singer 6361 AgenGraphe self-winding movement with a 60-hour power reserve.

The images show the default style which uses a textile strap in dark green. The screw-down rivets are grade 5 titanium and it uses a folding clasp closure. The privileged folks qualified to buy the Track1 DLS Edition can personalize it to match their car’s colorway.

Hermeus Planning Hypersonic Passenger Flights Aboard The Quarterhorse By 2029

The recent groundbreaking developments by the likes of SpaceX, Virgin Galactic, and Blue Origins have rekindled interest in space travel. Add to that NASA’s ongoing missions and upcoming return to the lunar surface. You can say the space craze is trending all over again. Meanwhile, aviation groups are also pushing the envelope for hypersonic flight with platforms like the Quarterhorse from Hermeus.

With the exception of military fighter jets and other classified projects, hypersonic flight is yet to turn commercial. Just imagine how short each plane ride would be to any point on the planet aboard an aircraft capable of speeds beyond Mach 5. The last concept we featured was the Aerion Supersonic AS3.

The Quarterhorse, on the other hand, is poised to take pole position in the race to cater to the public. While others are yet to announce their roadmap for testing and delivery, Hermeus is ready to share its plans. Testing will commence sometime in 2023, with deliveries of its cargo-only trim following in 2025.

Depending on how well it performs in logistics and military scenarios, a passenger-ready version of the Quarterhorse should be available by 2029. Similar to the Concorde, Hermeus is going with a delta wing configuration for its aircraft.

Renders show the Quarterhorse clad in black with yellow accents and the company emblem on the vertical stabilizer. Hermeus notes that thrust comes from a turbine-based combined cycle (TBCC) setup. A GE J85 turbojet engine handles take-off and landing. To reach its top speed of about Mach 5.5, the intake on the nose feeds air into the TBCC to go hypersonic.
