The McIntosh RS200 is the company’s newest wireless speaker system — and it’s optimized for streamers of all sorts. It works with Amazon Prime Music, Pandora, Spotify, SiriusXM and Tidal, plus it supports Apple’s AirPlay 2, so you can easily play directly from your iPhone or sync it with your HomePod. The RS200 is Alexa-enabled, too, meaning you can sync it with your existing Echo or Echo Dot smart speaker.
The 650-watt speaker has eight total drivers: two woofers, four midranges and two high-frequency tweeters. There’s an output for a subwoofer, too. And, according to the company, the RS200 has a 3-position EQ switch that “allows you to set the EQ based on your room and listening preferences” — no matter where you place the speaker, it will sound superb.
Another cool feature is that the RS200 can be used as a soundbar. It has an audio-only HDMI input as well as optical input, meaning it’ll work with both new and older TVs. If you want a fuller home theater system, McIntosh recommends pairing the RS100 with its Play-Fi compatible RS100 wireless speakers ($1,000), which would be used as surrounds.
And lastly, the RS200 was designed with McIntosh’s classic flair. It has a black glass front panel, illuminated logo, lovely analog control knobs, and a pair of illuminating blue power meters. Facing it head-on, it looks like a blue-eyed beauty.
The McIntosh RS200 has a suggested MSRP of $3,000 and it’s expected to ship this month.
