After six years of R&D, Blackmagic has announced the next evolution to its original Pocket Camera. The new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K is a heck of an upgrade. It’s a Micro Four Thirds compact camera that’s capable of shooting 4K RAW videos — and it only costs $1,295. It can record 4K videos at 60fps in 10-bit ProRes and 12-bit RAW, which is better than most DSLRs for shooting RAW videos. It can also shoot video at 120fps, but only in HD.
Additionally, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K has 13 stops of dynamic range and a dual native ISO of up to 25,600. The Pocket Cinema Camera 4K has a relatively small sensor and pretty average other tech, which is why it remains relatively cheap for what is. It can shoot still photos, but with four built-in microphones and ports for SD, UHS-II, and CFast 2.0, it’s really optimized for video. It’s expected to go on sale later this year.
