Even in a watch market flooded with rereleases and vintage inspiration, Oris’s Divers Sixty-Five line has managed to stand out. It’s been successful enough to spawn more than 55 of variations, in fact, according to Oris’s current count, but until now, its chronograph version has been rarer and available only as limited editions. That changes now, as the first non-limited Oris Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph model debuts today.
The basic design of the retro diver in its three-hand form has adapted easily to the chronograph’s pushers and sub-dials. Both are water-resistant to 100m, but compared to the standard 40mm model, the Chronograph is expanded to a much bolder-wearing 43mm wide. Following certain past Divers Sixty-Five models, the debut version of the serially produced Chronograph has a steel case and bronze bezel, with gold dial highlights and an “aged-looking” lume color to give it that warm vintage glow. Expect more options to follow.
While dive watches and chronographs seem to go together so well, it’s important to point out that it’s inadvisable to operate the chronograph underwater — no matter, though, as these watches are meant to be used in dry situations as well and look handsome on a leather strap. The watch is powered by a Sellita SW SW510 automatic chronograph movement with 48 hours of power reserve, and many enthusiasts will appreciate the omission of a date window. The Oris Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph is available now from Oris on a brown leather strap for $4,000 or for $250 more on a steel bracelet.
