Quick Take: Two tough new chronograph dive watches join Sinn’s lineup for Baselworld 2019. Sinn’s new 206 Arktis II recalls a Sinn watch from 20 years ago that introduced some badass technology. Called the 203 Arktis in 1999 and resistant to temperatures between -40 degrees and +80 degrees Celsius, it features the same icy blue dial as the original, but differs in some notable ways: the new model no longer requires screw-down pushers, as Sinn’s D3-System prevents water incursion into the movement without the need for these; and the watch has been upsized from 41mm to 43mm.

Alongside the 206 Arktis II for 2019, Sinn has released the 206 St Ar, which is similarly designed to the Arktis II albeit (with a black dial) and recreates the first Sinn watch to incorporate its now signature dehumidifying technology.

Who It’s For: Let’s hope you never need to experience temperatures even close to the limits the Arktis II is meant to withstand. Extreme features such as these, and even the water-resistance rating of 300m, are designed to represent incredible durability. These watches are geared toward those who appreciate knowing their watch is tough, which could easily describe plenty of existing fans of the German brand. The standards to which these watches are built and the engineering that goes into them is easily appreciable for someone who lives an active lifestyle, and that person should feel right at home with either watch on his or her wrist.

Key Features: Both new Sinn 206 watches have a host of durability features, but note that the 206 St Ar doesn’t boast the Arktis’s extreme temperature resistance. As with many other Sinn watches, both do use the brand’s “Ar” dehumidifying technology, which prevents the sapphire crystal from fogging after dramatic temperature changes. Rated to 300m of water-resistance in steel, both 206 watches are 43mm thick and a hefty 17mm thick. They are powered by the venerable ETA/Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph movement which is known to get about two days of power reserve. The Sinn 206 Arktis II has a price of $3,570, and the 306 St Ar, of $3,270.
