Today, Panerai announces a super limited edition of its Submersible dive watch in a bronze case. Seductively referred to as “Bronzo” watches at Panerai, the brand helped start the current watch-industry-wide craze for the patina-prone material in 2011. Panerai Bronzo watches, however, have always been very exclusive products, only sold to clients with a special relationship with the brand.

The new Panerai Submersible Bronzo PAM 968, on the other hand, is available to anyone worldwide if they are fast enough and flush enough. Only five examples are being made, and they will be in Panerai boutiques, online via the brand’s website, or via the Panerai WeChat boutique.

This new Bronzo is 47mm wide and water resistant to 300m with a sandblasted brown bezel insert in ceramic, and it comes on an equally chunky and tonally appropriate brown leather strap. It is powered by the Panerai in-house P.9010 automatic movement with three days (72 hours) of power reserve. Price for the Panerai Submersible Bronzo PAM 968 is $16,500.
