Ahead of CES 2019, Mophie announced two tiny portable power banks that are designed to charge the latest iPhones and Androids smartphones as fast as possible. The two portable chargers, the powerstation PD (6,700mAh) and the powerstation PD XL (10,050mAh), are able charge the latest smartphones more than twice as fast as they’d charge when plugged into a 5-watt wall adapter, which is what comes standard with each iPhone. If you’re looking for speed, these power banks can recharge your iPhone XS to 50 percent in just 30 minutes, which is pretty good.
Maybe more impressively, and conveniently, both the Powerstation PD and the Powerstation PD XL have a USB-C input/output port with power delivery (PD). This means not only can they fast-charge a smartphone, but they’re powerful enough to provide an additional boost to a USB-C laptop, such as a MacBook Pro or a MacBook Air. (You can also use the same laptop charger to recharge both devices, so you don’t have to worry about an extra cord.) That said, neither of Mophie’s new power banks is large enough to provide a full charge for a laptop, but it’s a convenient thing knowing that if your laptop is drying, your phone charger can give it an extra hour or two of battery life.
Additionally, each power bank has a USB-A port and it supports simultaneous charging. This means you can charge two devices at once, using the USB-C and USB-A ports. You can charge your iPhone and Nintendo Switch, provided you have the correct charging cables, at the same time.
Lastly: size and durability. Both of these new power banks are teeny-tiny and can easily fit in a pant pocket. They have a textured design to protect against scratches or scuffs or drops. However, these aren’t waterproof.
The Mophie Powerstation PD and Powerstation PD XL are available for purchase today on mophie.com. The smaller Powerstation PD costs $60, while the larger Powerstation PD XL costs $80.
