Quick Take: The new Monta Atlas is the fourth major collection of watches from the increasingly American established indie brand. It introduces a new take on the GMT movement already represented in the sportier Monta Skyquest, but packaged here in a style that is consistent with their Triumph field watch. Essentially, the Atlas combines elements from the brand’s existing products — but the result is a distinctive look that upholds a consistent brand identity. Those existing elements should offer high quality for the price, which is what Monta does best.

Who It’s For: Those who like what Monta is generally doing in terms of style and quality now have another model option. Monta has done well to focus on offering a solid, practical watch with a high level of fit and finish for its price. The GMT complication, which tracks a second time-zone in a 24-hour format, was once billed purely as a traveler’s watch, but it is now a more practical complication than ever for many people’s far-flung (yet interconnected) modern existence.

Key Features: Just as the Skyquest GMT has a number of differences to distinguish it from the Oceanking dive watch, the Atlas is not merely a GMT version of the Triumph. A brushed bezel and 24-hour-marked flange ring, along with sporty color highlights, help make it distinct. It is also the first Monta model to offer a white dial, and the other lacquered dials available are blue or black. Look closely and you will notice that the arrow-tipped GMT hand is stepped in order to make room for other dial elements and yet stretches all the way to the edge of the dial.

Preorder pricing for the Monta Atlas will begin at $1,410 with a rubber strap, $1,420 on leather, or $1,615 on the brand’s excellent steel bracelet. In each case, eventual full retail prices will be about $155 more than the preorder prices on a strap or $180 more for the bracelet version.
