Welcome to the new Gear Patrol. Longtime readers will immediately recognize some of the design changes we’ve made as part of our upgrade, but there are plenty of other tweaks under the hood, all designed to deliver you award-winning Product Journalism faster, better, whenever and wherever your want it.

We realize though that most of you don’t come to Gear Patrol for dissertations on web design. So we’ve highlighted the most notable adjustments below.

As always, we appreciate feedback on our work. So feel free to send your questions and comments to sayhello [at] gearpatrol.com or fill out our 2020 Audience Survey here.

Optimized for desktop, mobile and tablet.

Let’s be real. Our phones are the most important screens in our lives today. That’s why all of our stories are now produced with mobile viewing in mind first. But that doesn’t mean we’re leaving those of you on desktop out in the cold. Our new responsive site design will adjust dynamically to deliver the best Gear Patrol reading experience on any device.

Lightning-quick load times.

Stories, videos and galleries load faster than ever before to ensure you get the information you need as quickly as possible, even on slower internet connections.

More premium content on the home page.

We’ll always have a soft spot for the traditional reverse chron river, but our new home page can surface a wider array of stories, from timely news, to in-depth guides and longreads, letting you discover more product content with fewer clicks.

Neat and tidy archives.

Our ever-growing collection of reviews, buying guides and deal coverage has never been easier to browse. To explore our new navigation, click or tap the menu button next to the Gear Patrol logo at the top of the page. We’re also leaning further into topics we know you love like Fitness and Food & Drinks, by giving them each dedicated categories of their own. Pro tip: bookmarking sections (like Watches, Tech or Deals) is now the fastest way to stay up to date on the Gear Patrol topics you care the most about.

Robust site search.

Looking for our take on a particular product, brand or topic? Our retooled site search functionality located at the very top of our pop-out navigation panel can quickly pull up relevant articles. It also highlights other key words to help you research faster.

A smoother video experience.

Our new video hub page is the best way to see all of our original content including This Week in Gear, all in one place. You can now also watch videos embedded in stories while skimming the rest of an article. Just start scrolling down the page and our new player will automatically shrink to a smaller size and stick to the bottom corner so you can keep watching without interruption. Prefer YouTube? You can always follow us on our YouTube channel.
