Oris Big Crown Pointer
In 1938, Oris first developed its pointer date and put it into a pilot’s watch. The complication indicated the day of the month, with a hand pointed to the day at the edge of the dial and offered up additional functionality to the wearer back when dates were not as ubiquitous on watches as they are today. The configuration has been an Oris favorite since and continues on in the brand’s latest aviation-inspired watch 80 years later.
The new Big Crown Pointer Date does not stray far from that original formula. It features brilliant ’30s-inspired design details like “cathedral” hands, a coin-edge bezel and sharp, printed Arabic numerals done in a legible, old-school font. The watch is still designed with modern tastes in mind, though, and as such comes in a great, mid-size 40mm case with a tastefully stylish light blue dial. Inside ticks away an Oris-tuned Sellita SW 200-1, an affordable and reliable automatic. As such, the Big Crown Pointer Date is still an exceptionally-priced watch, retailing for just $1,600.

The North Face Apex Flex GTX Hooded Jacket
Save 30%: Soft shell jackets land somewhere in the space between tradition windbreakers and fleece jackets. However, instead of getting lost in the shuffle, the softshell’s versatility helps it stand out. Today, you can get the Apex Flex GTX Hooded Jacket by The North Face for $161, when it usually retails for $229.

A three-layer GoreTex liner makes the Apex Flex GTX both wind and waterproof while venting under the arms works to regulate the temperature inside the jacket. More so, the fit of the jacket makes it possible to use as a base or mid-layer on chillier days. It’s most definitely a three season item, but if you plan on heading anywhere with serious altitude or a chance of a temperature drop a good soft shell like the Apex Flex GTX Hooded Jacket by The North Face is essential.

Taschen Coffee Table Books
Save up to 75%: Your home is more than a living space; that term would imply that the sole purpose of everything inside it is to aid in the functions of daily survival. The truth is that your apartment or house is filled with a consciously- and unconsciously-collected group of objects that together act as a representation of who you are. (And if it truly is empty, well that says a lot, too.)

As a focal point of one of the more social rooms in any space — the living room — the coffee table provides an opportunity to curate how visitors might understand you. Yes, it’s a surface for remote controls and drinking vessels, but it can also accommodate larger objects, like books. There’s even a term for this: the coffee table book.

These publications are extensive and usually filled with as many pictures as words. Every subject is fair game too — the art lover might display a tome on Matisse’s work with paper cut-outs, while a vagabond would favor photographer Steve McCurry’s photographic work in Afghanistan. These two books and many more are currently featured in Taschen’s sale on display and slightly-damaged models. Discounts range from 25-75 percent off, and given that these big books can cost as much as $700, it’s a sale worth checking out. — Tanner Bowden

Mountain Steals Tent Sale
Save 46%: While Memorial Day Weekend is often symbolic of the beginning of Summer Fridays (if you’re lucky enough to get them), today is the summer solstice. It’s also the longest day of the year and the official start of summer. The weather is currently cooperating, and bringing with it nights that are often pleasant, temperature-wise. If sleeping outdoors is your jam, you know the time to do so is now. And while there are many ways to do so in your backyard — hammock, tree house, etc. — this sale on tents is the best way to do it everywhere. Save up to 46 percent on tents from Sierra Designs, The North Face, Eureka, Big Agnes, Nemo and more. Pick one up that is light, portable and spacious, as well as minimalist in nature. Here are a few to get you started. — Meg Lappe
